A handwritten note emphasizing on the need to believe in and find inner strength

Do you want to know how can you find inner strength in your life? Do you have any idea where you’d look for it?

Of course, you do not have to venture out to discover your inner strength as that precious inner strength is within you, thus it is aptly termed so. However, sometimes it is okay to take help of external factors to find inner strength.

You must have often heard and read about people using their inner strength to overcome seemingly impossible difficulties and obstacles in their lives. You can do the same.

You need to understand that each one of you has the strength and support you need already within you – you just have to find it. Without finding your inner strength, you often tend to fall short of your goals.

Sometimes you need to keep looking out for things, people, events, and signs that will help you to connect with your inner strength.

Just like any other skill, inner strength can be searched, developed, and worked upon once you are ready. You do need to conduct certain exercises, engage yourself in activities, and make some efforts.

“You have within you right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you.” ~ Brian Tracy

What is Inner Strength

You need to first clarify the meaning of inner strength. Isn’t inner strength a state of mind? Doesn’t it depend on what you think about yourself and believe in all that you can do?

Inner strength is the strong conviction that comes from within, when you believe in yourself.

Your inner strength is expressed in forms of will power, positive attitude, belief, and confidence in yourself. It’s the positive image and assessment of yourself that makes you feel good, capable, and courageous.

It’s something that says within you – “I can” – no matter what the problem or situation.

Probably it is lot more than that. Your inner strength can make you do wonders. It is a vast reservoir of power that springs from within – an inexhaustible source of miraculous energy.

Inner strength is characterized by self control, self discipline, detachment, persistence, peace of mind, and the ability to concentrate.

With inner strength comes determination, the courage to persist, the power to change, the spirit of endurance, and the force to challenge.

For some people the definition of inner strength is a force of will, though it’s often just the opposite. When you want to find real inner strength, you need to find ways to weather life’s tribulations calmly and peacefully.

This can happen only when you don’t cling to your force of will, rather let it go, which will help you find your inner strength.

There are many tips to develop your inner strength and power as I had discussed in an earlier post. Finding inner strength is regaining the belief and confidence in oneself.

“You really have to look inside yourself and find your own inner strength, and say, “I’m proud of what I am and who I am, and I’m just going to be myself.” ~ Mariah Carey

How Can You Find Inner Strength

Anything that helps you find inner peace can also help in finding inner strength. Reaffirming your spiritual beliefs, getting in touch with nature, doing something to nurture yourself or taking time away from work will help you connect with your inner strength.

It’s in your trying times that you need your family and friends to find ways to come together and find the inner strength with one another. All it takes is a little bit of teamwork, determination, love, and understanding.

Most people show their lack of inner strength with sentences that include the word “impossible” or “can’t” in them. For example, I can’t cook, I can’t lift that bucket, I can’t lose weight, or it’s impossible to write, it’s impossible to earn money, etc.

With such negative thoughts, you are absolutely right, you can never do anything. So, what do you do? Hire someone to spoon feed you or do your work for you? I guess that’s not the path you want to take.

Thus, it’s important to introspect and converse with yourself about where you want to go in life, how you want to turn those negative “can’t” to “can” and “impossible” to “i-m-possible”, and how you want to get there.

Making mistakes, failing, and undergoing traumatic moments are all part of our lives. So, finding inner strength is all the more crucial in being happy, though what’s important is finding that inner strength so that you can rely on it even in your down moments.

Thus, never give up on working on your inner strength.

“Go within every day and find the inner strength so that the world will not blow your candle out.” ~ Katherine Dunham

The Key to Finding Your Inner Strength

How do you gather all the inner strength and courage to overcome sudden hardships? You can do so by turning your negatives to positives.

  • Start gradually

You need to first start by taking baby steps to achieve inner strength. Don’t try to jump into immediate action that doesn’t work always.

Instead, find ways to support yourself and remove the negative words as mentioned above from your vocabulary.

  • Think positive

If you have thought one of your goals as losing weight, then imagine yourself by closing your eyes at the weight you are aiming for. Imagine what you would be doing, thinking, and feeling.

You need to feel those emotions, then open your eyes and find ways to reach those goals by incorporating all that you felt.

  • Remain positive

When your goals are set and you start thinking positive, your outlook to life will change. If you feel you cannot lose weight, instead of telling yourself that “I can’t” or “it’s impossible”, try telling yourself “I’m learning how to lose weight”.

Similarly, try shifting all your cant’s into a learning process and give yourself time to develop and find your inner strength.

Remember, your internal support system and inner strength is already present, it’s just waiting for you to tap into it and by taking small gradual steps, move forward to reach your goals.

“Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.” ~ Arnold Schwarzenegger

Ways to Find Inner Strength

Once you have made up your mind to tread on a path and think positively, developed a positive attitude, and have complete belief in what you are doing, you need to next find ways to discover that inner strength within.

Some strategies that can help you finding your inner strength on those difficult days are –

1. Take time to focus

You need to takeout time for yourself to focus on you and think about what you need to feel stronger. List out all your positive qualities and accomplishments, and if you can’t do that, seek help from your friends or family.

So, when you are feeling low or down, look up this list and feel good for your smallest of efforts. You need to remember that it’s very easy to think about failure and the negatives in life, but you need to fight those thoughts and learn  – to not fear failure.

2. Remain calm and patient

Confucius once said, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”, so remember that problems may not be solved in one day, thus remain calm and patient.

Celebrate each moment when you take small steps towards solving a problem and feeling better, because those achievements are what help you find your inner strengths.

3. Stay active, sleep well, and have fun

Studies show that you improve your self-image and moods when you eat healthy, smile, exercise regularly, and sleep at least eight hours every night, so don’t forget to do these things.

Also, with the stressful lives we all live, it’s important to have fun by doing things you like to do. It could be things like watching movies, playing games, learning something new, attending live shows, make family time or even acting silly at times!

Just remember to be spontaneous, embrace your inner child, and let loose.

4. Interact and meet people

It would help you a great deal if you in turn volunteer to help others, which can help improve your self-confidence and build  inner strength.

Even attending peer support groups helps to receive support, guidance, and encouragement, and you get to meet new people who may be in a similar situation as you and would understand what you are undergoing.

You could even share your personal stories with trusted friends or others that will help you understanding yourself better and find your inner strength. If you don’t want to talk about your story, try recording it or writing it down in a journal.

5. Express yourself

Find ways to express how you would like to feel or how do you feel by doing things like dancing, drawing, writing, and painting. Try even just doing something you like or even trying to do something unusual by stepping out of your comfort zone.

Doing these various activities are great ways to get rid of negative emotions and energies, and you are able to understand yourself better this ways.

6. Repeat self-affirmations daily

Words or sentences like “I can do it”, or “This too shall pass”, or “I am doing the best I can”, are positive thoughts or affirmations to counteract the negative ones.

They make you feel good about yourself and boost your self-confidence and help you achieve wellness, which in turn helps discover your inner strength.

7. Spend time with family, friends, even pets

Surround yourself with supportive and helpful family and friends who keep reminding you about how good you are and listen to you whenever you need to talk or discuss things.

If need arises, it’s alright to ask for help without feeling ashamed or embarrassed, either from your family or friends, or even seek professional help if need be.

It’s been proven that spending time with your pet also improves your inner strength as your bodies release hormones that makes you feel stronger. So, go ahead and give your pet a hug for being a part of your life and helping you without even knowing about it.

“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” ~ Mother Teresa

Here is another wonderful post on different ways to build  your inner strength that you may like. I also had to share this wonderful video about Nick Vujicic, whom I am sure you all must have heard of some time or the other.

Never Give Up ~ Nick Vujicic ~ You Tube video

Isn’t Nick’s courage and belief in himself an inspiration to all of you? If he can do so much and remains so positive, what’s holding you back? I guess it’s time to change your way of thinking, if you have problems believing in your inner strength.

Speaking of myself, being a freelance writer and working from home, I receive my inner strength from my work, kids and family.

I think I overcome my deepest emotions and convert my fears into strength and power when I know I have my husband’s full support and the love of my kids beside me.

“I was always looking outside myself for strength and confidence but it comes from within. It is there all the time.” ~ Anna Freud

Remember that changing your life isn’t always about learning more, but about using your inner strength. So, by discovering the way to your inner self, you will also find inner strength and peace.

Over to you –

  1. Hi Haraleena,
    Oh! My!
How I Missed This Powerful Post!
Glad that I found this today and in fact a power packed one indeed!
Yes, our inner strength is the key word here, if we can develop this within us and it helps us to overcome or face any situation we go through in our daily life. You explained it well on this points: The Key to find that and The ways to find that! Very simple but very effective one!
I appreciate you for presenting this great thing thru this informative piece.
Oh my!!! Nick Vujicic is indeed an amazing person, He is no doubt one among them in the history of people who made news and history with their disability, I do not know we call them “disable” people. No, they are not disable ones, instead their inner strength and will power made them better than the so called able people. Yes, they proved it disability is not a liability! They are physically challenged people, and they took that challenge in their life and many got victory over it. I am sure this is because of their “inner strength” History is filled with such people.
I too watched several of Nick’s videos, indeed those are truly inspirational ones.
Thanks for sharing his video too, very fitting one with this post.
May you have an Amazing week ahead.
    Keep sharing
    Best
    ~ phil

  2. It is very Difficult for me to discover my inner strengths since I have lost interest in my life. I no longer love doing things I used to love neither do I enjoy spending time with my friends or family members. It seems everyone tries to demotivate me. It is turning very cumbersome situation for me. :/ help me Harleena Ma’am

    1. Welcome to the blog Mukul!

Aha…and why is that, because you are still young, and I feel your life is just starting out! Or perhaps you are looking for real love in your life, incase you are not married – are you?

I agree, people try to pull you down or demotivate you, but that will happen in every phase of your life. You need to keep yourself together and not let such people or thoughts affect you. Just have confidence in your abilities and find inner strength, which is in all of us, and you will be much happier. Hope this helps 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  3. Welcome to the blog Koundeenya!

Ah…I’m just glad that we connected now – it’s never too late – isn’t it? 🙂

Glad you liked the post, and yes, I love quotes and so they are always a part of my posts. However, lately I’ve been trying to do without them – just to see if anyone misses them as much as I do! I guess no one really missed them as much, and they do add to the length of the post, so I might be just adding a few of them hereafter.

Nice to know that you too are a freelance writer, as well as a blogger. I can well understand the mood swings all of us undergo, and that’s absolutely normal and alright! It happens with me too, and unless I have deadlines to meet with my writing projects or the blog posts to put up – I prefer writing when the mood is right too – as you can only give your best when you feel your best – isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by, and for your warm and kind words about the post. Hope to see you here more oftener. 🙂

  4. Hello Harleena!

This is my first visit to your blog and I regret, why I haven’t read any of your posts till now.

I simply loved the article. The quotes, you put in, are really apt and inspiring. I agree, being positive does no bad and we can achieve whatever we want, when we have a positive mindset.

I’ve been a freelance writer and right now, I’m in a mood like, I don’t want to write anything and just be alone for some time. And I’d say, I’m fortunate enough to find this post. You are really inspiring. I think, I really should start following your blog updates regularly. Thanks for writing such an incredible article.

    ~Koundeenya

  5. Hi Leena,

Lots of great information and tips to finding and demonstrating one’s inner strength. I find that today’s world is so involved in keeping busy and entertained that we forget to spend time alone long enough to hear our inner voice and get in touch with our inner being.

    Nice post! Sally

    1. Glad you could resonate with the post Sally!

Yes indeed, nowadays with our lives becoming so involved and stressed out, we hardly find the time to connect with our inner-self. But that’s so important as that’s what leads us to finding our inner strength – isn’t it? I guess we need to think more about it.

Thanks for stopping by. Always nice to have you over. 🙂

  6. HI Harleena,

Thanks for another inspirational post. Inner strength is so important, though for many, me included, it took longer than it should have to build. I had to go through several life-altering experiences to begin building my own inner strength, and to remove the words, can’t – impossible – no way, and other negative euphemisms, from my thought process. And to just take the risk sometimes! My blog is one of those risks. Took me a while – and the encouragement of a close friend – to have enough confidence in myself to start writing, which is not something I ever trained in. Quite the opposite – my background is engineering!

Probably one of the biggest “inner-strength-changers” in my life was was watching my son, and the other kids around him, go through life-threatening medical issues, most often with so much more grace and positive attitude than many an adult would. Realization hit me – wow – look at these kids’ strengths to get through their day-to-day hospital dealings. So why can’t I? And there was that word, can’t. Changed me quite a bit. For the better I think!

I still draw upon these experiences to “pick me up” when I begin to doubt myself. For me, inner strength is an on-going process. There are days I revert to “can’t, but, don’t”, then pull myself back up the next day and say, yes, I can. But I guess that’s life, huh!

    1. Glad you found the post inspirational Carol!

I can well understand all that you must have undergone to change those negative vibrations into positive ones, which is why you are stronger today than you were yesterday. I guess you have really worked your way through it, and just like they say – it’s always in the mind. So, when we think about being positive and believing in our abilities, it leads us to our inner strength.

Wow! I never knew you are more of an engineer than a writer! Your blog is wonderful and so is the content you share on it, and am glad you found your inner strength to start the blog.

I hope your son is alright now as you mentioned life-threatening medical issues. And yes, when we see our own loved ones undergo so much pain with courage, it gives us the strength in-return. I guess it just comes or props up from within and turns all our impossibles, can’ts and won’ts to the positives – isn’t it?

We all have our ups and downs and that’s just being human I guess. No one is really perfect, nor do we all remain positive and courageous all the time. But as long as we come back to “cans and possibles” – we are on the right track. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by. It’s always nice to have you over. 🙂

      1. Yes, Harleena, I am like a fish out of water! But I am enjoying the blogging world so much more than my engineering days! And thanks for the kind words – my son is better – survived cancer, still has a few lingering issues, but after seeing the worst, we can deal with the lingering stuff. “Can’t” just isn’t allowed when fighting cancer! I see the strength he carries from dealing with his own stuff, it often inspires me to another level. Happy Monday!

        1. Glad you are enjoying it Carol!

Gosh! Cancer…I can well relate to that word as I lost my mom because of that. And yes, there is no place for words like “can’t” during that time, because you try everything in your hands to make things work.

I am so glad your sons better now, and yes, the lingering stuff will fade with time. What matters most is that all of you came through it clean, which is indeed a blessing in disguise. He surely must be a brave and courageous boy and giving you strength in return. Bless him. 🙂

  7. Wonderful topic and who else to write it up so neat other than you!!!!

You have really done a great job at listing out those points of how to find one’s inner strength, many of us will find it hard to believe what each one is capable of doing, until they find their strength. It does take a lot of patience and time as you have mentioned, but the final outcome will be most rewarding for everyone.

    Good read harleena!!!

    1. Glad you liked the topic Praveen!

Yes indeed, most of us don’t really know or realize that the inner strength lies hidden within all of us – we just need to discover it. Even if we have to spend some time and do so with patience, I think it’s all worthwhile because this is what would benefit us in the long run and make us stronger.

Thanks for your warm and kind words, and for stopping by. Always nice to have you over. 🙂

  8. Nick is such an amazing example, in fact when I first saw his you tube video it made me feel really embarrassed about some of the things I would had complained about before in life. I loved the post Harleena sometimes it’s just what me need, a little motivation to find that one thing that will continue to inspire us.

    1. Glad you could relate to the post Brian!

Yes indeed, Nick is an amazing example, someone who continues to inspire and motivate so many of us and gives us strength. I guess after seeing his video, his courage, and the belief in himself – we all are spellbound – isn’t it?

We all need just a little bit of inspiration, and if we can find that in some way – it makes our day.

Thanks for stopping by and wish you the best with the wonderful contest as well. Always nice to have you over. 🙂

      1. Yeah for sure, and I’m a cry baby for stuff like this so obviously Nick made me cry a few times,. It’s just overwhelming but in a good way you know?

        1. Aww…that’s common with me too Brian – to cry at the drop of a hat. And such videos are good at that. 🙂

  9. Being positive is about finding inner strength.
Thanks for this informative post .

    1. Absolutely Fazal!

Being positive and believing in yourself is the way you will find inner strength within yourself, which would help you to proceed further and move on in life.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  10. I find when times are tough there is a lull where I do feel down and some self pity. But like you said, I find my happy place; something I am good at, people I love or a time I was happier. Then I strive to reach that place again. It is not easy at times but I know it will come.

    ~Allie

    1. Glad you could relate to the post Allie!

Happens with most of us at times I guess, and those down moments are the ones that always teach us some kind of lesson in disguise. And yes, eventually we all do learn to get over such trying times once we manage to find our inner strength and start believing in ourselves.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  11. Wow Harleena,

Everyone has left so many wonderful comments it’s hard for me to find anything to add as well. But you know I’ll always find something right!

I’ve also been challenged myself over the years trying to learn how to draw from my own inner strength to get me through some of the more difficult times. I know I sound so much like a broken record on this topic but from my own experiences of my Dad and his health issues, you just seem to be able to put all the petty things aside you know.

What I mean by that is we look within ourselves and realize how very blessed we are that that’s not us so anything that we have to complain about or even worry about can’t compare. I think that watching my Dad go through everything he had to deal with in life gave me my own strength that I could conquer just about anything I put my mind to.

I remain positive and happy which is a huge plus for living life to the fullest. I don’t necessarily do affirmations daily but I have written out what I want to achieve in life and I read that out loud several times a day. I’m happy and excited when I read that too so putting the feeling behind it really helps.

Your posts are so inspiring and wonderful, they teach us so much about life. Thank you for always sharing that with us Harleena. I really appreciate that.

    ~Adrienne

    1. Glad you could resonate with the post Adrienne!

Yes indeed, everyone has been wonderful to share their awesome comments as always, and your comment just makes it all the more meaningful. 🙂

I can well understand all that you have undergone, which hasn’t been easy for you. But that’s exactly what’s made you so strong, and those very challenging moments of life have helped you find inner strength within yourself – isn’t it? And yes, where our parents are concerned who are such an important part of our lives, everything else seems to hardly matter.

We do learn from all that our parents face, and in your case you learnt so much from your Dad, just as I learnt from my Mom. She died of cancer, but the inner strength and courage she had as she faced all that life put forth her after she discovered she had cancer was commendable. And in-fact it was the other way round, as she gave us the courage to faith we lacked that time, instead of us giving it to her. After her, Dad has taken her place and now gives us the strength to keep moving ahead, whenever one feels a little low.

You are so right in talking about being positive and happy, which is what’s required to live life to the fullest – this exact belief in yourself. Ah… so reading aloud all that you want to achieve is I guess your success mantra. 🙂

Thanks so much for stopping by and those warm and kind words of appreciation. I do feel I have achieved a great deal if in some ways I am able to inspire, motivate, and help a few people in some way.

Always a pleasure to have you over. 🙂

  12. I too am looking at ways to generate inner strength. You have great tips on it. Just wondering if you have tried Yoga.

    1. Glad you could relate with the post Shalu!

Yes, I’ve tried meditation though want to get started with yoga too. I did write an earlier post about tips to develop your inner strength and power (the link of which is given within this post), if you would like to read.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

      1. Hi Harleena, I sure will. Thank you. You know I am a great fan of Baba Ramdev and his yoga. What are your thoughts on that.

        1. Baba Ramdev is a famous teacher of Hatha Yoga, which is important to upkeep one’s physical and mental fitness. Almost everybody living this end knows about him.

  13. Wow Harleena,

This post coupled with that video made me pause.

I really had to think about this but I think my inner strength comes from helping my family and helping others. Strength has also come through desperation or hitting low points such as death, divorce or financial turmoil.

PS. I had never heard of Nick before today and I was just amazed.

    1. Glad you liked the post Annie!

Yes indeed, the video did get me glued up to it as well, and I wasn’t really able to stop myself from viewing more of Nick’s videos thereafter. 🙂

You are absolutely right there, that inner strength that lies hidden within us, often comes from the tough challenges we face, whether it’s the low or down times of our lives like the ones you mentioned, and when we really start believing in our capabilities and start believing that ‘we can’ overcome all such challenges.

Don’t worry! I hadn’t heard of Nick earlier than this post too, but when I did I was just inspired and motivated a great deal.

Thanks for stopping by. Always nice to have you over. 🙂

  14. The bottom line of finding your inner strength is by first of all by being clear what you want. Then make a plan of action to accomplish your goals. Next set your goals with deadlines. After you made a small goal. Then set a medium goal. When you accomplished the medium goal then set the big goal. Every goal you accomplish means that you have broken your previous record. When that happens over and over again then you are on your way.

Focus on your strengths and it will be stronger. Bridge your weaknesses by learning from your mastermind members just like Henry Ford and Thomas Edison did. Last but not least follow through and your dreams will come true!

    Lawrence Bergfeld

    1. Welcome to the blog Lawrence & glad you could resonate with the post!

Very true, the first step is to make up your mind. I’d also add that ‘being clear’ would include getting rid of negative thoughts with understanding and replacing them with postive thoughts to set up a realisitic goal. Sometimes we get scared looking at the magnonimiouty or distance of our desired goal and get disheartedened thinking it cannot be acheived. I think your action plan would certianly help people, as it’s a very practical approach to achieve any type of goal.

It happens that when we’re feeling low, we usaully focus on our negatives – incapabilities, mistakes, failures, and shortcomings. The key to finding inner strength is to convert these to positives, as you suggest, by focusing on our strengths.

Thank for stopping by and sharing you action plan to find inner strength. 🙂

  15. “You have within you right now, everything you need to deal with whatever the world can throw at you.” ~ Brian Tracy = I live by that thought, Harleena. It is all within us – everything. And of course, our experiences – both good and not so good, make us even stronger as there’s always something to learn from them. Important though, to remember that no one has the right to judge anyone and undermine their belief in themselves.

As always a wonderful topic from you. Love and hugs, Vidya

    1. Glad you could resonate with the post Vidya!

I love that quote from Brian Tracy too – so powerful isn’t it? It’s wonderful if all of us can live by that thought just like you do, and just keep yourself positive by thinking that we all have it within us – that inner strength to face all odds.

You are absolutely right by saying that no one can really judge another because they have no idea what that person’s undergoing or the down moments they may have faced, which may have made them the way they are. It’s each one to their own, and yes, sooner or later the inner strength does develop once they start believing in themselves.

Thanks for stopping by. Always nice to have you over. 🙂

  16. Wow! I was surprised at first when I saw that you’d included a quote from Arnold. I didn’t think he had any quotable quotes 🙂 but boy, was I wrong. He’s summed it up precisely. I think that apart from my belief and faith in God, the next thing that gives me inner strength is my struggles. Each time I had to battle a new problem and overcome it, that made me stronger.
I think my difficult childhood has definitely made me stronger as an adult. I can vouch for this one.

I’m also impressed by Nick and how he lives his life.

    1. Glad you could relate to the post Anne!

I was surprised to see Arnold’s quote too, which made a lot of sense and was apt for this post. 🙂

Absolutely! Just as some of the other commentators mentioned, it’s always been the tough or hard phases of their lives, their down times and struggles that’s made them strong and given them their inner strength. And yes, those who have had a tough childhood – mature much sooner as they have seen a great deal in life and gain their strength from those lessons learnt.

Nick always has a way of touching people’s lives and heart I think by his powerful words, and he is truly an inspiration.

Thanks for stopping by. Always nice to have you over. 🙂

  17. Hi Harleena,

What a good motivating up lifting post. I really like the saying don’t be afraid to fail. No matter what, as long as you are doing your best that is what truly counts. It’s very easy to fool ourselves.

What I’d like to add is to be honest in knowing your are doing all you can in a given situation. Even if it’s not good enough the key is knowing it is your best. Your best is Everything!

I’ve seen Nick Vujicic before, if you are feeling down and out all you need to do is listen to what he has to say.

Thanks for sharing and reminding all of us that we all have inner strength if we choose to use it.

    Terry Conti

    1. Glad you liked the post Terry!

Absolutely! What really matters is that you try your level best without really having any fear of failure, and leave the rest to Him. It’s just as the saying goes – you do your best and God does the rest. 🙂

Being honest to your own inner-self is the key factor, just as you mentioned, which is what makes you believe in your capabilities. And anything tried with such a belief, whether it’s successful or not, is what really counts – as that you know is your best.

Nick’s inspirational videos are an instant booster for anyone feeling low or down, which gives them the strength to move ahead against all odds.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  18. Hi Harleena,

What a wonderful post that covers so much tips and insights!

This Inner Strength concept is very interesting. Just yesterday, I was tallking to a friend of mine who went from a broken divorcee with young children to a successful business woman with great confidence. I asked her what did she think helped her most in breaking through. Her reply was ‘The Mindset”! She explained that she watched other successful people with million dollar houses and thought along this line – ” What did they know about how to get there that I did not know?”

This one attitude gave her the inner strength to struggle on and seek knowledge in order to be successful.

I believe your point number about interacting and meeting the right people is very important. There are too many successful people out there for us to model. Following the footsteps of giants is one of the surest way to succeed!

    I appreciate you, Harleena.

    PS: Nick’s video is SUPER-AWESOME!

    1. Welcome to the blog Viola – nice to see you!

Glad you liked the post, and yes the topic of inner strength is very vast and interesting.

Your friend changed her mindset to a positive one and once she started believing in herself, she must have gathered her inner strength and gone right ahead, breaking all barriers of negativity or doubt and reached where she is today. She learnt to face all the challenges after she changed her attitude, and that’s what got her where she is now – truly commendable.

Yes indeed, meeting like minded people, be it your family or friends or other successful people you take as role models, or those who tend to push you to greater heights does help. Sometimes even simple ordinary people like Nick too inspire so many like us – isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experiences with everyone. 🙂

  19. Hi Harleena,

I love this theme and your so well written post.

Ah, inner strength! Sometimes it seems that the people who should have the least of it have the most and vice versa. I have heard of Nick Vujicic before and watched some of those videos. When you see a man such as this one, there is no excuse for any of us, is there?

However, I also learned from experience that a lot of people who lack inner strengh have been building a lot of doubt because of the way they were brought up. Unfortunately a lot of people that I know to be weak and with a huge dose of lack of self confidence didn’t have parent who supported them, encouraged them or ever told them anything positive really. I happen to help a lot of such people. It could be said that my very first client was my own mother.

However, even for those who have had a less than enjoyable upbringing it is still their responsibility as adults to search for answers and try to improve and grow. Crying in a corner “poor me” all your life won’t help.

Thank you for this great post, Harleena and have a great week end.

    1. Glad you liked the post Sylviane!

Yes indeed, sometimes whom we least expect if from have the maximum inner strength, which comes forth on certain life’s situations and wonders us, and vice versa. I was just glued to Nick’s motivational video’s and couldn’t stop looking up one after the other, and yes, there’s no way excuse whatsoever for any of us after seeing him achieve so much in life, and that too without any kind of regrets.

I think you raised a very valid point here about people lacking inner strength, which goes back to their childhood days or the way they were raised. Lack of confidence and motivation or someone to boost their morale is all what must have added to their lack of inner strength in their initial years. And if such people didn’t have supportive parents, it must have added more to their outlook towards life and themselves in general. It’s wonderful to know that you are helping such people, including your mother, which must be therapeutic for them and helping them connect to their inner-self.

Each one of us have to learn to find our own inner strength, which in most cases lies hidden within us, instead of trying to indulge in self-pity or feel bad about the situation.

Thanks for stopping by and adding more value to the post. Enjoy your weekend as well. 🙂

  20. I would agree with what Deeone has to say. Many of our experiences have a lot to teach us and maybe we develop and work on our strengths through those experiences. My bad experiences have made me weak for some time but then slowly and gradually I have found the courage to develop and work on strengthening myself and my beliefs to move on and just be happy.

It is a tough time but giving it time and importance just helps in doing a lot.

Quite a lot could be said about this topic actually.I love the way you deal with such serious topics with so much comprehensive discussion.

    Have a nice day!

    1. Glad you could resonate with the post Hajra!

Deeone’s comment summarized it all I think – he is wonderful with his words. 🙂

It’s always our bitter or bad experiences that teach us something in return, which is what makes us fight it out and gain the inner strength once again. And in no time we are back on our feet – fighting fit as they say.

I think what works best is the self-belief that we can fight our way out and the positive attitude towards life that helps us to find out inner strength. Thus, even when the times are tough – once we start thinking in a positive way, we are able to overcome those hurdles.

A lot can be said about such topics, just as you mentioned, though if I had my way I would have carried on and on. But when I saw the length of the post, just as always, I had to literally stop myself!

Thanks for stopping by. Nice to have you over once again. 🙂

  21. This is a lesson that we all must learn, relearn and then learn again. . . thanks for writing about this Harleena!

    1. Glad you could relate to the post Patti!

Yes indeed, finding our inner strength is something each one of us has to learn to do, if we haven’t done it so far. I guess once you are able to do that and start believing in yourself, you can achieve a great deal in life – isn’t it?

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  22. Hi Harleena,

Wow… Love this dear >> “impossible” to “i-m-possible”

I always believe that failing is a way to find “Not to do” something again. But I wasn’t start to fail until last year dear. I was afraid of failing since my first grades of school life and my skills was known by few people around me.

Thinking positive is what I’ve practiced from the beginning and it’s what helped me to overcome some silent fears in my life. I still believe in it and it helps me to encourage others too. But I have fears. I’m overcoming them slowly. Yeah, I’m not jumping int them quickly. If I do, it will mess up. I think gradual improvement and taking some time on it is alright. Isn’t it dear? 🙂 However meditation is what I’ve learnt from my kiddie days. It’s really helpful. Can’t ignore. Never.

I don’t know why but sometimes I’m really confident myself that I can conquer any fear I have. But it doesn’t remain as it is. I’m wondering “Yesterday I did this but why I can’t today”. Or some days I’m not confident right after wake up. But few hours later I’m confident enough. I’m start being afraid as before. So I think I just didn’t find my inner strength. Is it? Or I’m not practicing much? 🙂

Great post Harleena and glad you add that video at last. Everytime I watch it, I feel I’m strong and it’s really motivating.

    Cheers…

    1. Glad you could relate to the post Mayura!

The word “Impossible” does have “I-m-possible” hidden within, though most of us don’t tend to see that. 🙂

Yes indeed, failing is another way of not doing something again or trying once again and just giving up. And yes, just as I mentioned to Ilka, thinking positive is what always works, and is half the battle won I think. If you believe you can do it, you can and you will, or else no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to do a good job out of it, even if you do it.

Slowly does it as they say, and I think you are doing just that by working towards removing the fears you have, which is something that most of us also have, though they vary from person to person. Meditation and yoga do help a great deal, something that I did write about in an earlier post about how we can develop our inner strength and power, and if you have been practicing that from childhood, that’s wonderful!

We all have our down moments when our confidence level takes a dip, and that’s only being human I think. And then we rise up and feel good about everything and life seems so wonderful. Life is not always a bed of roses and nothing always goes right all the time – that’s why it’s called ‘life’, which is full of twists and turns. But living out each day as it comes, and living it to the fullest and best of our abilities it what makes it all the more interesting – isn’t it?

Your inner strength is within you, you just need to find it Mayura, just like we all have to. It’s the hidden strength or drive that makes you do things or take steps that you believe in, which I’m sure you are doing already, that’s how you fight your fears. And yes, Nick’s video is what makes us feel so inspired and motivated, giving us the courage to move on against all odds. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and adding value to the post. 🙂

  23. Hi Harleena,

What a great post! Wonderful tips on how to find your inner strength. Positive affirmations are very powerful. How can you think negative when you are affirming the positive? And oh what an inspiration Nick is. I marvel about his positive attitude every time I see a video of him.

I’ve had to learn to draw from my inner strength very early in life. It made me a fighter. I never give up. I see failure as learning experience and stepping stones. That doesn’t mean that I’m always positive though. After all I’m human. But if I catch myself I turn that around in a hurry. I go for walks, listen to upbeat music or I create something, like beautiful quotes that lift me up. Besides, I remind myself that over 90% of the world’s population are much worse of than I am and that I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful post with us, Harleena!

    Be blessed,

    Ilka

    1. Glad you liked the post Ilka!

Absolutely! Thinking positive IS the key and the only thing that keeps you moving ahead. And yes, Nick is truly an inspiration, and there’s so-so much we can all learn from him. It was the first time I saw his video and couldn’t help seeing a number of them thereafter 🙂

Our past experiences, especially if they haven’t been all that good, always teach us something in return. I remember when in an earlier post you did mention the tough life you had earlier before you got married, which is what must have developed your inner strength and made you a fighter.

I guess we all have our down moments when we can’t really remain positive and optimistic about things, and those are the times when we need to find ways to divert ourselves to do something positive, just as you mentioned. Ah…I love the picture quotes you make up, which convey such a lot, and yes walks and music are therapeutic indeed.

You are absolutely right to say that we are still better off than so many others around us. This is exactly what I tell my kids too and I also showed them Nick’s video to make them realize that they are so lucky to have it all, so there’s no reason to think negative or crib – isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experiences with all of us. Always a pleasure to have you over. 🙂

      1. Awww, thanks for your kind words about my picture quotes Harleena. I love making them and it serves two purposes. They make me feel better when I create them and (hopefully) make someone else feel better when I share them.

You’re such a great mom, sharing with your children that not everyone on this earth is as privileged as they are. When I grew up it was …”eat your vegetables there are children starving in Africa.” But in this time and age with the internet there is so much more we can get a glimpse of. We may not be able to solve all of world’s troubles but at least we can teach our children to do the best that they can.

        1. They are absolutely true Ilka!

Your picture quotes always motivate me to try out something new too, though somehow I still have’t got down to doing it. I think it’s surely a creative way to feel better in your down times, or otherwise too it’s a great way to do something constructive with your time and learn something new. 🙂

We try being good parents, though sometimes kids have their own mood swings and aren’t as responsive, which I think is part of their teenage growing years. You would know that best having brought up three of them! But yes, this time they watched Nick’s video with great interest and understood what we tried telling them. You are so right in saying that we can at least try teaching our kids to do their best, which is all that really matters.

Thanks so much for your valuable time and comment – much appreciated. 🙂

  24. Wonderful topic, Harleena!

Yes, inner strength is indeed what has kept me thus far – if I had not tapped into it when I did; I now believe the story would have turned out incredibly different for me.

I believe our inner strength comes from experiences (mostly the bad ones we have had to face) – those things that may have caught us off guard, those times when a close family member or friend mistook our kindness for a weakness, or how about those times when we didn’t see a way out of whatever we were going through at the time.

I believe when we acknowledge that certain things have happened in our lives – being ever mindful that within the experience lies a valuable lesson – we are further able to tap into our inner strength.

For me personally, many times I’ve been thrust into a situation, that later caused me to look deeper within myself to the training I received from my loved ones who took the time to teach me the valuable lessons, and also the many experiences that have prepared me for such a time as those when I need them the most.

The more I realize I had that strength within me the entire time, the more confident, certain, and capable I am to use my inner strength to help or assist other’s in whatever they’re going through.

However, at the same time – I know that I must never allow it to become an enabler for others to use.

I think you’ve covered many great points – the only thing I would add is for the individual to learn how to set boundaries for themselves.

Great article though, my friend! I really enjoyed this insightful reminder. 🙂

    1. Glad you liked the topic Deeone!

I totally agree with you that every incident in our lives is a learning experience. I appreciate the attitude with which you have learned to approach things in life. This is one of the life skills that we ought to learn to mitigate our sufferings.

I feel thankful to everybody and each event irrespective of whether the expeirence was good or bad, but I cherish the learning outcomes and value how it helps in steering the future course of my life.

More the expeirences in life, the more we learn and gain confidence. And you’re right, thats the way to build our inner strength, which gives us so much of courage to go on as well.

You’ve contributed an important point to note that I had not configured – setting boundries. Inner strength can be too hot to handle and one must learn to set benevolent limits and gain conscious control over its use.

Thanks so much for stopping by and adding more value to the post. It’s always nice to have you over. 🙂

      1. Thank you, Hajra. 🙂 I’m delighted to know it resonated with you. Blessings, my friend.
