How to be successful – this was the question that once used to intrigue me, but not any more! That’s because I learnt that there is much more to success than what meets the eye.

Can personal qualities make you successful? Yes, they sure can!

It’s all about your personality or personal characteristics, besides your personal development and self-improvement efforts.

Many people still think that its money or educational qualifications alone that will make them successful.

But, they are mistaken as the reality is that it’s the personal qualities and characteristics that help you in achieving success.

No, I’m not in any way undermining money or education because they are also important.

However, history is witness of uncountable stories about people who achieved success without the help of these two clutches.

You can stand on your strength and unshakable belief. Once you do that it really doesn’t matter whether you’ve money or not.

It’s a matter of your personal grit and grade of qualities that you develop with your own efforts.

Are you wondering how do you do that?

It’s simple – by improving yourself, and of course, by following these self improvement tips. 🙂

“I know the price of success: dedication, hard work, and an unremitting devotion to the things you want to see happen.” ~ Frank Lloyd Wright

Self Improvement and Your Life

Ironically, not everyone believes in self-improvement or even personality development for that matter. There are contrasting viewpoints about improving oneself.

Some out rightly reject it as a useless concept labeling it ‘for losers’, while some treat it as an important aspect of life and regard self-improvement as the ‘winners potion’.

Isn’t that a contrast in the view point and attitude of people?

And, why not! Each person is entitled to have his or her views and perspective of life.

However, it’s generally observed that successful people believe in evolution and progress, and they make efforts to improve themselves.

By saying this I don’t mean that those who never use any self improvement tips don’t ever improve or progress.

In fact you all change your life, knowingly or unknowingly, willing or unwilling, because change is the essence of life.

If the change is positive, then you’re progressing and there is improvement in your life.

But if you try implementing a few tips that help you with the act of improving your life, there are more chances that you’ll progress positively.

Even more, such guidance on how to improve yourself acts as a catalyst, and helps you to be successful with less effort and time.

This post intends to equip you with certain ideas about your personal qualities, which I believe if you internalize, will act as a strong guiding force to help you improve and make your life better.

What are Personal Qualities

These are the personal characteristics that make up your personality. These qualities of your personality are the basic ingredients for personal development.

Some of the examples of personal qualities are adaptability, ambitious, confidence, courage, honesty, positive attitude, punctual, and tolerance.

There are plenty of other personal qualities and characteristics that you can find in the list here.

Such qualities are what make you stand apart from others and make you a person of substance.

Awareness about these personal traits can help you in your personal development, in your daily life, work, and in picking up a career as well.

“Nothing endures but personal qualities.” ~ Walt Whitman

Relation Between Personal Qualities and Being Successful

Many people attribute their success to destiny.

Well, no doubt the idea of fate or luck is interesting and provides consolation at times.

However, I personally believe destiny is what we make through our efforts, without the fear of failure.

To begin with, I believe it’s logical and wise to work on something that we always have with us – our self.

Your “Self” is a ground of full potentiality and unlimited possibilities.

Any seed that you sow in it will unquestionably grow into a fruit bearing tree. You just need to make the best of your efforts to nurture and be the ideal gardener.

Interpreting the analogy, the seeds are your beliefs, ideas, and intentions. The fruit is the success you wanted to achieve and the trees are your dreams realized, or what you wanted to become.

And, the nourishment is your personal qualities that I’m going to talk about in this post.

The more you improve yourself by developing your personal qualities, the better you nourish yourself and increase the chances of reaping the fruits of success.

Now, if you’re convinced that your personal qualities can make you successful, we’ll go ahead and discuss some of the essential ones.

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to attain the success you seek.” ~ Mario Andretti

Woman showing personal development and four personal qualities
4 D’s – Devotion, Dedication, Determination, Discipline

Develop 4 Personal Qualities for a Successful Life

Your life has many dimensions – emotional, personal, physical, social, spiritual, and others.

Each dimension has many personal qualities, which depend on your emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual level or state.

I believe there are four core personality characteristics that play a crucial role in preparing you to achieve success. These are the 4 D’s:

  • DEVOTION
  • DEDICATION
  • DETERMINATION
  • DISCIPLINE

There are the traits that you need to develop to be more result-oriented and successful.

Though these D’s aren’t my original discovery, but I’ve regrouped, redefined and analyzed them with a new perspective to make them more meaningful.

These are not any abilities or skills that you acquire, but qualities of your personality that you develop.

The best part being that anybody can develop these personal qualities. All that it takes is understanding and a strong will, and then success is yours to keep.

Before going any further with the self improvement tips required to be successful, I suggest that you first analyze and decide what you want to do and become in life.

Your personal development campaign would largely depend on that.

“To succeed in your mission, you must have single-minded devotion to your goal.” ~ Abdul Kalam

Devotion

Devotion is all about giving.

When you are devoted, you give something entirely that is yours – you devote your house, devote your time, or even devote yourself for some cause.

This is the best sacrifice you can make, and if you’re devoted, you’re ready to give what it takes. You feel it’s your duty or moral obligation to be committed.

It’s like giving something without the intention of taking it back, and making it your priority as well.

It’s a quality of commitment that becomes a way of life. The term devotion also has religious connotations and means the feelings of ardent love, usually for God.

Besides care, attachment, and loyalty, devotion is also about dynamism, enthusiasm, and zeal with which you work.

In fact, devotion also overrides and goes beyond drive or passion.

When you’re devoted, you’re driven by a force that’s more consistent and powerful. You then become more dynamic and self-motivated.

You devote yourself only when you deeply and seriously believe in something, and trust that its prospects would be far better and greater.

Be devoted to what you’ve decided to do or become in life. I devote my blog and time to help people, and the more I give the better and happier I feel. How about you?

Self Improvement Tip: Develop the personal quality of devotion, then whatever you do will be with all your heart. You’ll work as if you’ve limitless resource at your disposal. You‘ll be committed, spirited, happy, and successful.

Dedication

Dedication is a pledge you take to carry out your devotion.

When you are dedicated, you are completely devoted and have faith in someone or something that you bind yourself with.

If you look up the dictionary, you’ll find that devotion and dedication almost mean the same, and are synonyms of each other.

However, there’s a subtle difference in their nature that turns out to make a huge difference in the results of their use.

Dedication is more like being focused with a high degree of commitment, and it’s like narrowing down from the broad spectrum of devotion.

It’s about actually putting yourself to work for which you’re devoted to with dynamism. Its action oriented.

Dedication is the act of commitment, while being dedicated is to assign and commit yourself.

I’m self-motivated to commit myself to blogging and I give my time to actually write for my blog. Or, I can say that I’m devoted to my blog and I write dedicatedly for it.

Self Improvement Tip: Develop the personal quality of dedication, and then you’ll be committed to do what you’ve planned. You’ll have more chances of being successful.

Determination

Determination is the making up of your mind to achieve something that you’re dedicated to.

When you are determined, you force yourself to work for a cause and show your firmness of purpose. It is the much needed push.

This personal quality requires you to be decisive and dynamic. Taking firm decisions and abiding by them is the hallmark of determination.

Basically, determination is all about your strength of mind and will power. It’s about the drive with which you’ve to be persistent and carry out your dedicated task.

With the persistent determination or tenacity, you can achieve any goal. And, determined people never give up even if they’re faced with obstacles and problems.

Being determined means you’re ready to persevere and make constant efforts, because you’re driven or highly motivated to achieve success.

Determination also shows that you have unwavering faith in yourself and the purpose to carry out a task.

It makes you diligent so you can steadily continue and complete a task despite any difficulties.

I’m determined to continue blogging and produce quality content despite the problems that I face. My determination stems from my dedication and devotion to my blog.

Self Improvement Tip: Develop the personal quality of determination and then you’ll put your heart and mind to any task you do, even at times of adversity. You’ll feel capable of winning and achieve success.

Discipline

Discipline is the control and regulation of yourself, including your actions and behavior.

By discipline you mean self-control and adhering to the rules and regulations that are enforced to facilitate achieving of success.

Self-discipline is required in any field, stream, line of work, whether at home or outside. You need to be disciplined in your personal and professional life – don’t you?

If you wish to be successful in life, you need to be disciplined or do your task as you’re required to do.

Being disciplined helps you have an unwavering mind. Conversely, if you’re determined with all your heart and mind, then you’ll follow a disciplined life.

When you’re disciplined, sometimes you’ve to forego the immediate satisfaction and endure through hardships. But that’s what makes you stronger – isn’t it?

It is also useful in creating new and good successful habits to improve yourself and develop your personality.

Time management is a form of self-discipline. I use it to create my routine so that I can make best use of my time and be on the path to success.

Self Improvement Tip: Develop the personal quality of discipline, and then you’ll be able to work at your optimum level and potential. You’ll achieve self-control that will lead you to success.

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” ~ Jim Rohn

  1. Hey Harleena,

What a great post. I am a true believer of self development. I find human behaviour fascinating and it captures my attention on a regular basis. I get to observe how I and everyone else interacts with the world. I enjoy being in new situations just to see how I respond.

I have learnt so much about myself just watching others. However in saying that I have devoted much of my life attempting to improve or adjust behaviour. I am dedicated to the cause. This way I get to grown and write about.

While I am far from perfect, much of my major life lessons were from a young age to my late twenties. Then I seem to have learnt communication skills that have developed naturally on their own. Not saying that I have not worked really hard on myself. If it could put it into exercise terms, I would have worked up a sweat and run for days.

I never take it lightly. I rather enjoy how I go about knowing when there is an issue. When my mind, heart of belly ache, it is time for reflect on the situation, develop a strategy in order for me to grow.

I am writing about finding your niche and I am going to add this as a link because you bring up some great points. Talk soon.

    Rachel.

  2. Now i got the secret to get succeed in life. I was searching for this formula for a long time.

I really enjoyed reading this encouraging post. it is not easy to get all these qualities. We should need to setup our mind and body for it.

To me, discipline is really important to achieve our goals in life. I would also like to share this quality with you “believe in yourself”

  3. Hi Mam,
Thanks for yet another superb post.
Personal qualities influence our success to a greater extent.
I completely believe in self improvement. Actually I want some resources (like books and videos) to keep myself motivated.
Indomitable spirit is the real step to success as in A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Sir’s words.
I also believe that our work decides the destiny. This moment I remember Priti Shenoy’s well known book title “Life is What You Make it”.
Yeah, the 4D’s are fundamental traits to achieve success.
To be frank, it is niw I clearly understood the difference between devotion and dedication. I thought both have the same meaning.
Thank you so much Mam. I work hard to develop all these qualities.
Patience is the key to success, so I wait and keep working.
I couldn’t see the video Mam. I am on mobile. Will see it soon.
    Regards,
    Rahul

  4. Since starting of my blogging carrier i am just following tech wesites and social media now it’s time to get some interesting….Pearsonal qualities for my life…

  5. Yes indeed, I can see your devotion, dedication, determination, and discipline in your work, through your blog and the other one too that you’ve recently started. So, there is certainly a lot of growth and developmen. The first thing you mentioned is “devotion”, which is really striking. We often want to take so many things together and often forget this. We forget our aim and get involved in the things, which are less significant for us. It is very true that we are required to sacrifice something, if we are willing to achieve our desired goal.
    Thanks for the inspiring thoughts.

    1. Welcome to my blog Clarence!

Well, thank you for saying that. 🙂

Growth and development should never stop I feel and that’s how we progress, isn’t it? We certainly have to choose our priorities and let go of things that stop us from achieving our goals, that’s what will eventually make you successful. Yes, sacrifice something to gain something in return is how it works.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views with us. 🙂

BTW – It would be nice if you could use a Gravatar as I see you have a lovely picture on your blog – so that we can see who we are talking to. Just a friendly suggestion 🙂

  6. 4D concept is super awesome! A very inspiring and motivating article! I loved reading it. Yes self-improvement practiced daily can lead to a life with endless rewards and it is something I would encourage everyone to do, every individual deserves to be successful and this article can be a motivator!!

    1. Welcome to my blog Ntando!

Glad you liked the 4D concept and this post on these personal qualities that can make you successful 🙂

I agree with you, and I think everyone should work on improving oneself from the various sources available to us, whether they are books, blogs, or anything that inspires and motivates you, isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us.

BTW – If possible, get a Gravatar so that we know who we are talking to – just a friendly suggestion 🙂

  7. Well, the above mentioned 4 D are truely revolutionary and effective tools or ways to rule over world. For me dedication plays the most important role to be a successful person.
Thanks a lot for this inspiration. 🙂

    Regards

    1. Hi Mosam,

Yes indeed, they are, and they work at all times, don’t they? 🙂

I agree with you, and being a committed and dedicated blogger will surely pave the path for your success.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views with us 🙂

  8. I simply want to say I am just beginner to blogging and seriously savored your web page. Almost certainly I’m likely to bookmark your blog . You absolutely have very good stories. With thanks for sharing with us your website.

    1. Hi Amit,

Sorry for the late reply – missed out on a few comments on this post 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and bookmarking the blog, and I hope you keep visiting us 🙂

  9. Yes, I believe in self-improvement. Why? Because you’re not happy with your life, it’s up to you to change it. Stop blaming your parents, society, the past, government, etc. You’re more powerful than you know and can change. It will take a bit of work of inner reflection but you’ll see results.

I would add the following characteristics to the 4D’s:

    1. Discovery.
    2. Debunk (as in debunk old beliefs and thoughts).
    3. Decision.
    4. Deposit (as in deposit new, positive beliefs and thoughts into your mind).
    5. Devour (as in devour personal development books and blogs).
    6. Discreet (as in tell no one of your plans to work on yourself).

    1. So now 4D has become 10D 🙂
and also I’am actualy agree with discovery and decision 😀

I mean for discovery with determination, do not let ourselves trapped in the ‘comfort zone’. I always pushes myself to discover something new and more challenging.

      1. The more the merrier. 🙂

I agree that getting trapped in a comfort zone isn’t healthy. It’s good to step out and try something new. After all, you won’t know if you life something or are great at something if you don’t try.

  10. Hi Harleena

It is a wonderful post indeed. Devotion, dedication, determination and discipline – these are undoubtedly the keys for success. The way you have organized them is great.

    1. Hi Amit,

I’m glad you like the post and find it inspiring.

It’s good that you realize the power of devotion, which we only think of in religious terms. Devotion is all about total commitment and self-belief that gives us undoubted and unlimited force and push to what we do.

You’re right in that we sometimes lose focus and try to have it all. Discipline helps us not to sway and sacrifice helps us to be more focused.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate it. 🙂

  11. Hello Harleena,

Really really excellent post. But for me the first 3 D’s seems to be same. I think Devotion, Dedication, Determination, all have the same context. Please enlighten me on this one. This is just my view and sorry if I’m harsh 🙂

Have a good day Harleena. Bye 🙂

    1. Hi Sumanth,

Well, I’d say that if you intently read the post then you’d know that I’ve clearly differentiated these three terms – they appear to have the same context, but their meanings are different. I hope if you re-read the post then the things might be much clearer. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week ahead! 🙂

  12. Love the 4 D’s Harleena. For me, the discipline to invest the right balance of time between clients, self promotion, personal relationships and still keeping some time for myself has been my greatest challenge.

    – Cole

    1. Hi Cole,

I’m glad you like the 4Ds.

You’re not alone – it’s really quite a challenge and honestly I too find it very difficult at times to keep a healthy balance between my work and relationships, and find time for myself.

The only solution is to divide your time well and be disciplined – easier said than done. 😉

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts. Have a great week ahead! 🙂

  13. Having the 4D’s is very important together with patience and tolerance. In order to succeed you need to learn the basic management skills to manage people too so as to get along with the obstacles ahead. Tnx for sharing.

    1. Hi Olili,

I agree with you – you do need patience and tolerance in each phase of life I’d say – good things come to those who wait as it’s said 🙂

Yes, you do need management skills too but here we talked of personal qualities or the 4D’s that we can work on our inner-self more and anytime to achieve success.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  14. Hello Harleena Mam

4D’s are important for sure success. I have seen the 3 idiots it says that perfection is important to become successful. If you are perfect at something . you can get success easily. Thank you for the amazing post mam.

    1. Welcome to the blog Shristhi!

Yes they are, and there are many others qualities too that we need to adopt for succeeding in life, but perhaps these are the main ones. Perfection is good, but if you keep striving to be perfect in everything, sometimes you miss the bus, so you need to balance things out 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, and do visit again 🙂

      1. Very well said. You are right. It is bad idea to become perfect in every field. We all have some special qualities.
Here comes the main thing that you must do what you love. I mean follow your interest. If you are interested in sports. It could take some time to become successful but eventually you will end up with great success.
But beyond all above 4D remain same and important

        1. It might not be bad Shristhi but it just isn’t possible to seek perfection in everything, but each one of us should keep trying for it.

Yes indeed, do what you like and if you can make that your passion, and aim towards achieving success, you would one day if you remain persistent. I too think these 4Ds remain common to all.

          Thanks once again 🙂

  15. Hello Harleena Singh,

Every time when I spend my time on your blog it is a great pleasure to me. You are doing a very good job to improve the personality and behavior of everyone and thanks to direct us to the best way of utilizing the innate qualities.

    1. Welcome to the blog Swapnil!

Nice to hear that, and yes, I do keep trying my best to share posts that uplift, inspire, and motivate people to get better. I do hope these personal qualities help them in more ways than one.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

BTW – Why don’t you get yourself a gravatar so that we know who we are addressing – just a friendly suggestion. 🙂

  16. You are saying right, specially Dedication. If we are dedicated towards something we will surely get a Success. I am new to your blog really like what you share here.

    1. Welcome to the blog Gautam!

Yes indeed, if we are dedicated to our work, whether it’s in personal or professional field, we are surely going to achieve success, sooner or later. Besides dedication there are the other D’s too that you can use as enhance your personal qualities to lead a happy life.

Thanks for stopping by, and I’m glad you like what I share – do visit again 🙂

  17. Hi Harleena, today is my first day of stumbling your site and I can’t believe i’m reading my third post; you have an extraordinary of writing and I would like to thank you for that.

Like G.K. Nielson right said: “Successful people are not gifted; they just work hard, then succeed on purpose.” I have always been a strong believer of this quote but didn’t know the true definition not till my brother (Obasi Miracle) recommended your site to me and I found this topic.

I’m not such a big believer in destiny, as I believe that there is no fate except what we make for ourselves.
I have found your article encouraging and will always strife to overcome my limitations.

    1. Welcome to the blog Ebenezer!

Thank you for your kind words of appreciation, and welcome to the Blogosphere, more so because you are Obasi’s brother who is a wonderful reader of my blog 🙂

I like that quote and it is so true too, hard work always pays, and if you enhance your personality with these personal qualities – nothing like it. It’s kind of your brother to recommend this site, and I’m glad you liked this post too.

I agree with you there, destiny plays some role and it works for some people too, but our life is what we make ourselves, isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by, and hope to see you around 🙂

  18. All D’s are very important to be a better person. You know its really difficult to implement but still we really need to follow this to be successful. This is the first time I am visiting your blog. Great Work!

    1. Welcome to the blog Sneha!

Yes indeed, these 4D’s form the base on which we add more personal qualities to become better. It’s not easy I know, but it’s not impossible either, especially if we really want to achieve success and find our share of happiness in life – isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by, and do visit again 🙂

BTW- I know perhaps your blog is new, but do get yourself a gravatar so that we know who we are talking to – just a friendly suggestion that would help you with your future comments on other blogs too 🙂

  19. I think you must also need to mention another one in list of 4 personal qualities… Its: “Be Firm” on decisions you took… means in urdu or hindi Krna he tu matlb krna he.. 🙂

    1. Welcome to the blog Syed!

Thanks for your kind suggestion and that additional point would be a good one, but I wanted to have just words starting with D’s as you can see this post mainly concentrate on the personal qualities – something that we already have within us and can be used or developed as a tool to achieve success. But you are right in your assessment that taking firm decisions is important too.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views 🙂

  20. I’m laughing out loud. This was very timely for me. School is starting and I just got my new Franklin Covey planner refill.
I love the four “D” words. I think they need equal attention in our lives daily.

I’m going to put them on the top of my daily page for the next month. That is where I put my focus for the day and then grade myself on how well I developed in that area.

I was looking for a theme for my month. I had started reading this blog earlier and when I came back to finish it, voila!

Thanks once again. I love the way you think Harleena!

    Karen Hoyt

    1. Hi Karen,

Nice to know that it came at the right time for you 🙂

Yes indeed, these personal qualities if we are able to imbibe in our lives, it will make us better I think. Ah…that would be lovely indeed!

I’m glad this post helped you in more ways than one, and I know you are a wonderful person and would ensure that others at your blog benefit from this little share, which happens when you weave your interesting content based on your own experiences too.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us 🙂

  21. Hi Harleena,

It is very reassuring to see that long posts like this one get dozens and dozens of comments. All those people who shout on the net: “Write short posts otherwise people will be bored and leave” simply drive crazy. It makes me jump like a tiger wanting to bite someone.

Personal qualities. I do not want to question neither your choices nor your definitions. Personal qualities matter … very much.
What I am interested here is another thing: the starting point.

I think the started point should be elsewhere. I think you should begin with life purpose. I mean when you decided that you want success and money and freedom, you need to stop and meditate on your life purpose.

Then you should check your values, your core values and be careful to align them with your life purpose. Next you need a kind of moral base to build upon (honesty, honor, correctness etc). Then and only then you can focus on the rest of the qualities, abilities, skills, tools etc.

    Have a nice day

    1. Hi Silviu,

I’m glad to find somebody who too loves long posts. And the comments are a testimony that people too like in-depth content to read and discuss about. 🙂

Well, now that Google too has made it official that it likes lengthy posts with its in-depth search results, those who advocated for short posts are left in a fix!

About this post, actually I wanted to mainly concentrate on the personal qualities – something that we already have within us and can be used or developed as a tool to achieve success. As a result I did not include life purpose which isn’t a personal quality, but something that you need to know or decide in life.

However, looking from the general perspective of the ingredients to be successful, I think you’re spot on with your assessment – the starting point should be your life purpose. I’ve written about this in a few of my earlier posts too.

Once you decide upon and define your direction then you can go ahead with selecting the values, creating the moral base etc., which is really a nice strategy that you’ve suggested.

Thanks for stopping by and contributing to the post. Have a nice week ahead. 🙂

  22. Hi Harleena,

I’ve been so glad about your article because I had been searching for some nice stuff about self-improvement for a while when I found your blog. Really interesting and inspirational thoughts about the 4 Ds, I’d also call it the 4 Dimensions of the personal success. But there is a C one as well; what about courage? In my opinion, it could play a key role as well: who doesn’t take risks won’t achieve the wanted goal. Of course, you have to be prepared to make good decisions and from that part, intuition joins the game as well. I’d really like to read some more from you about this topic, there is so much more inside these 4Ds…btw, thanks for sharing your interesting words and I’m really glad to come to your site, I’ve just found some really nice stuff here!

    1. Welcome to the blog Peter!

Glad you liked the blog and post on these personal qualities 🙂

Absolutely! These are the 4 Dimensions of how to be successful indeed, as you so rightly put it. Of course, courage too is a very important personal quality required to be successful. And it is true that you’ve to take risks, or rather calculated risks, if you want to be successful.

Courage definitely plays a key role. In fact, there are so many personal qualities that help us in some way or the other and you can create long lists of them. However, since I wanted to stick to a few bare minimum basics, and only to “D’s”, so I preferred the 4D.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views. Hope to see you around 🙂

  23. Hey Harleena ,
Very Nice blog I am subscribing to your blog.I visited your blog through SHB and I must say you are doing great work 🙂

    1. Welcome to the blog Sangram!

Thank you for your kind words of appreciation, and for your visit as well. Glad you like my work, and I hope you keep visiting as well 🙂

  24. The world is full of people with a degree living a miserable life, or of rich people gone broken.

It has always amazed me that, especially in the past when not everyone had a degree, many fortunes were made by people who had just a little school experience but who studied very well the school of life.

Actually success is all about self improvement as even if a bit of luck can help when you are ready success arrives. Also once you have developed the right traits if success disappear you know how to get it back again. Think about Donald Trump.

    Have a great weekend Harleena.

    1. Hi Andrea,

Yes indeed, such is the case we see around us, so there are actually no guarantees in anything, isn’t it?

I agree with you there, being educated isn’t the key factor that will make you rich or through which you will achieve success. And some readers even mentioned names of people who succeed similarly in the previous comments.

Absolutely! It all starts with you and how you improve yourself and move ahead in life. That is success in my eyes – each step moved forward. Donald is a great example indeed!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views. Have a nice weekend as well 🙂

  25. Hi Harleena,

This blog post has so much great wisdom in it. I have shared that on my Facebook wall so that many more people can really understand why some people seem to be so focused and dedicated.

I love the four ‘D’s. I’d like to add one that actually should be the guiding-D. D for DIRECTION. I have come across quite a number of people who do not really know what is the ideal life that they desire. Until we have made a decision as to which direction to go, there will not be any focus.

    With great appreciation, Harleena!

Viola Tam – The Business Mum

    1. Hi Viola,

Thank you so much for your kind words of appreciation, and for sharing it on Facebook as well. I do hope these personal qualities help people in more ways than one. 🙂

Ah…that is a nice addition to the existing 4D’s, yes, the right direction is what we also need to lead the life we want, without which as you mentioned you don’t know where you are headed.

Thanks for stopping by and adding more to the post – I appreciated that 🙂

  26. Blogging is a depending variable but not on the quality and education level one has attained. Ohhhh, 4-D’s are what every bloggers should aimed at else becoming a successful blogger will definitely not be sure. Many blogged for many reasons which are worth considering but blogging out these 4-D’s making blogging career a subject to a wise saying that; when things fall apart, the centre holds no more.

    1. Hi Adesanmi,

I agree with you there, and I do hope the people use these personal qualities and these 4Ds to make their lives better 🙂

Yes, many bloggers do blog for the reasons best known to them, but with these 4Ds, they are surely going to achieve success, isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by and contributing to the post 🙂

  27. Hi,

I loved your 4D concept. Devotion, Dedication and Determination are the main pillars of success. No one can succeed without these three. But I would like to pay an extra attention on Discipline because I personally feel, without discipline and With oter three, success may come but some time it may invite destruction. With no discipline, a person is like all dressed up and have no where to go. Indeed, 4Ds are awesome and necessary.

Thank You for sharing and have a lovely week.

    1. Hi Kumar,

Glad you liked these 4Ds, and yes these do lead to our success and happiness if we adopt them in our life.

Yes indeed, discipline is something we all need in our lives, whether it is in our personal or professional life, without which we can’t really remain focused nor have a proper work schedule or routine, and this does affect so many other things in our life. This is one of the major personal qualities that we all need.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views 🙂

  28. Hey Harleena,

I definitely believe in self-improvement and as the years go by, my belief gets stronger and stronger. Yes i was one of those who really didn’t think of self-development when I first started my business.

I use to wonder why I need it so much, and I found out. As Richard St. John put it in his video, I had to go through CRAP. After going through so much CRAP an epiphany hit me and found out why personal development was vital to my success LOL

I like your definitions of devotions, dedication, determination and discipline. Your definitely and distinction between the four made a lot of sense to me. I haven’t realize how distinct these four were until I read this post.

But yes, I call it working on your internal magnet and these four are keys to making your magnet stronger. The more you develop them the stronger your magnet will get!

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Sherman – nice to have you back 🙂

I agree with you there – the belief only grows stronger with me too, or perhaps we work on ourselves and see the results, so we can say this.

Ah…yes, the CRAP part is what most people here resonated with too, and I think he spoke so well in the video about the personal qualities that we need to adapt into our lives to succeed.

It’s tough to imagine that you didn’t believe in self-improvement earlier, though with time you’ve started seeing the change it has brought in your life, so the belief just grows.

I do think these 4Ds are so well interlinked, and one just leads to the other, though there are many more qualities too but these surely are the main ones shall I say, that are essential. You are right, even I used to think they are quite similiar unless I read the meaning in the dictionary to know it not to be true.

I like what you said about the magnet and that’s exactly how it is too – and if we keep working on it the force in the magnet would surely get stronger.

Thanks for stopping by and adding more to the post. 🙂

  29. Hey Harleena,

You’re absolutely right. Not everyone believes in self-improvement. I would even say most people I know do not believe in it. The world will be a better place if most of the people in this world had some form of self-improvement.

I love how you said about successful people who continually evolve and make progress in their life. Self-improvement isn’t a bad thing, it’s an awesome thing! Implementing some small and gradual positive improvements will improve the quality of anyone’s life.

I love Devotion as part of the 4 D’s. You’re absolutely right, it is all about giving. Devoting time, energy for a cause and purpose. Being passionate about what you do is also important. The quality of what you put into is what you do is what you will get out of it. As entrepreneurs, we all do not start off in a state where we are serious about what we’re sharing but as we become more passionate about what we do, the devotion becomes greater.

As always, this article was very well done. Thank you for sharing!

    1. Hi Nate,

Yes indeed, not everyone does, and that really makes me wonder why? I agree with you there, that if people were to start improving and working on themselves, a little bit, it would make such a difference to them and the world in return too.

Oh yes…that’s exactly how successful people achieve results too, or shall I say they DO follow these 4D’s, and their personal qualities shine right through.

It all starts with devotion or being devoted to what you believe in and taking it up from there. Giving is also something that most people don’t believe in, or perhaps they feel it’s a waste of time. But I guess they don’t know the pleasures of giving, or the happiness that it brings you – isn’t it?

I liked what you mentioned about not being serious initially, but when the passion is there, tables turn. But even here, if you weren’t devoted, you wouldn’t have started your business in the first place, so that I think is the first step, though as you mentioned, it only gets greater with time once you become more passionate about your work.

Thanks for stopping by and your words of appreciation. 🙂

  30. Harleena!

I commend you on this wonderful article you have written plus that awesome video.

In order to be successful, we need to work on our self improvement all the time. The four qualities you have mentioned are imperative to our growth and development. If we cannot grow our SELF, we cannot expect to grow our business.

As a self development coach, you know how I stand by this! I like all the four D’s. My favorite is Devotion because you have to be ready to give what it takes. And deep inside yourSELF you feel it’s your moral obligation. Once you acquire this into your mindset, it is all about giving.

Giving your best you can to all you serve is the key to success! Oh I love that video especially how he spelled out CRAP! It is so true!

    -Donna

    1. Hi Donna,

Ah.. thank you SO much for your kind words of appreciation, and I’m glad you liked the video as well 🙂

Absolutely! The work on ourselves should never stop because if that happens, I think you just freeze in time and can never really grow or develop, nor can you succeed.

These personal qualities are just the major ones I mentioned but they are the cream I’d say that we need to move ahead in life.

I know you use ALL of these in your business and coaching too, and yes, it all starts with being devoted and believing in yourself and others, and what you stand for in life. Once you are devoted, you just keep moving from one step to the other till you reach right up there.

It does come down to giving and being there for others – doesn’t it? However, I wonder how many people really believe in this. I wish they would. Ah…I think everyone fell for the CRAP right in the end 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and contributing your thoughts 🙂

  31. Hi Harleena

Self improvement is very important. In Fact, it is what I have to do till I die. Adding Value to myself

The 4 D’s are very important. They the fundamentals for success.

    Nice post. 🙂

    1. Welcome to the blog Ologundudu!

It sure is, and I don’t think we can really progress without it in our lives, isn’t it? The 4D’s are things we need to imbibe in ourselves to enhance our personal qualities that would leave us much happier and successful.

Thanks for stopping by, and I appreciate the shares too 🙂

BTW – Why don’t you get yourself a Gravatar so that we all can see who we are talking to – just a friendly suggestion as I saw you have one on G+ 🙂

  32. Hi Harleena,

Indeed I believe in self-improvement and I don’t believe in the concept of destiny too. Otherwise, I’d stuck in my life with no transformation, hating myself and criticize the destiny for owing a life that I’ve never asked for.

Gosh… It’s the perception Harleena 🙂 But following ’em blindly will never get things we expect.

I’ve heard myself, my friends claim that unless they educated very well or parents have enough money to spend, they can’t be successful in their lives and inherit the life their parents used to live.

AND the other popular claim is, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg were dropped out of school and they achieved success in their life. Even educated ones working for them.

I wish if they devoted, dedicated, determined and disciplined enough as they talk 🙂

I agree about people ignoring self-improvement Harleena 🙂 Ha ha… Mostly they think about the salary increment. I know what I’ve gain through what I’ve learnt and apply, even from here. It’s not a quick process though. But when it comes to my friends, they ask “Are you really following them? They claim they work but in reality, they are broken.”. The first thing I ask is “Did you ever try?” 🙂 Unless we try something, we don’t know what is it like at all.

Once I read your 4Ds, I’ve got the picture of Army forces. We had 30 years of civil war here which we had to be watchful enough to spot bombings eventhough we are not good at it. Finally, it was ended few years ago after taking a lot of lives. But when I hear stories of terrorists and how they secretly planned attacks on Army forces and public, risking their lives, the same qualities imply there too. It all depends on attitude, isn’t it? 🙂

Well, I need to keep on working in all 4 personal qualities Harleena 🙂 Discipline is something I’m quite struggling with ’cause I tend to devote my health and time for responsibilities I come across. But I don’t regret it ’cause I love doing it. Anyway now it’s not too much. But as you always say, I shouldn’t work too hard 🙂

You have a lovely week with 4Ds Harleena 🙂

    Cheers…

    1. Hi Mayura,

Nice to know that we think alike in both these aspects 🙂

I know how some people tend to think that they can change their lives and become successful only if they are well educated, well placed, or have some money etc., but there is much more than meets the eyes. Oh yes…your examples about Bill Gates and Mark fit in perfectly here, which I’m sure you must be explaining to your friends too. Yes – even the educated ones now work for them, which means purely that education might just be another way but it doesn’t start and end there itself.

I agree with you – not very many people think about improving themselves, or prefer to think only about how they can make quick money or increase their pay cheque. But this is a major part they need to pay attention to as well. Yes indeed, the answer lies in trying it out to see if it works before really giving it up.

Oh dear…30 years is a long time I must say and to live in that fear can be bad. I know my Dad went to Sri Lanka leading the IPKF when it all started, and he used to tell us about the bombings and things as seen by his own eyes of his own men etc. Yes indeed, even those men, the terrorists have their own reasons and they too apply these personal qualities and 4D’s to carry out their task and achieve results. It does depend a lot on your attitude and for who or what you are using it.

You are not alone, but progress and growth should never stop I strongly feel. I also need to work on all these and many more things in my life, and that’s because no one is really perfect. Ah…I can understand that because my husband does that too a lot, so the discipline is something that comes in life when you lessen a little on other things and focus more on carrying out your work systematically. Yes, like you, he too loves doing things for others and has his other priorities and responsibilities too that he prefers paying more attention to at times, but that’s how some people are.

Thanks for stopping by and adding more value to the post, which I’m sure our readers would love to go through. Have a nice week ahead as well, yes, with these 4D’s 🙂

  33. I enjoy reading about the 4Ds. I agree that these are qualities that are essential for success! I would like to think that I have them in relation to how I approach work. Thanks!!

    1. Hi Evelyn,

Nice to know that you liked the post 🙂

Yes indeed, if we adopt these personal qualities, they will lead us to success, and more importantly, bring us more of peace and happiness in our lifes too.

Thanks for stopping by and contributing to the post 🙂

  34. I liked the 4 qualities you have mentioned. I too believe that these qualities are must to be successful. We can add many qualities but these 4 are basic and covers all such as being helpful to everyone, being good to everyone etc.

Consistency is also a quality which is needed to be successful. 🙂

    Nice read!

    1. Hi Atish – nice to have you back 🙂

I agree, these personal qualities will surely lead us to our success, though there is a lot more that can be added to this list, just as you mentioned. Oh yes…being consistent is an absolute must if you are trying to achieve something.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views with us 🙂

  35. Woww! 4-D!

These D’s are the D’s that are needed in all area of life. Descipline–> Oh, the only way of life, the image of human personality, the only way you live to live. This is really great

    1. Hi Adesanmi,

They sure are personal qualities that we all need in our lives to be successful and become a better person too, which is more important – isn’t it? I agree, it all does start with devotion and discipline plays a major role as well. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and contributing your thoughts 🙂

  36. Hello Harleena, This is really an excellent post as usual, and yes you mention the Four great tools which are DEVOTION, DEDICATION, DETERMINATION, DISCIPLINE..

Devotion cannot works without determination, you need lots of Devotion and Discipline in other to be successful..

Thanks for this great reminder post..

    1. Hi Temilola,

Oh yes…I think all these personal qualities that are mentioned in this post or these 4D’s are absolutely essential, though they are not the start and end of all. They surely are interlinked and are needed for us to succeed in life.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views 🙂

  37. Hello Harleena,

I really believe in personal development. I believe that I can get anything I want if I was determined and if I put all my heart into it. I think determination is the key to success, it allows you to be a better person and work more to get to your goal.

    Love your article.

    1. Hi Nermeen,

You are absolutely right! It is ALL in the mind, as they say it, and if you follow these 4D’s and make them a part of your life, there is no way to not reach greater heights. Yes, from all these personal qualities, determination is the key as it drives you to your success.

Thanks for stopping by and words of appreciation. 🙂

  38. Hi Harleena,

Another fantastic post. I’ve never studied any personal development by way of any courses etc, but I do personally try and develop changes within me to improve myself, be it off line or online.

I’ve never heard the 4 D’s before but as I read through your post they all made sense and fell into place one after the other perfectly.

I like to think that I’m using all 4 D’s in my life and in my work.

    Devotion, Dedication, Determination and Discipline.

Off line: I’m over weight and want to do something about it. So every morning the first thing I do is push myself (in my chair) 4 miles, whether it’s poor weather or not I complete the push. I’m devoted to my quest and have the dedication, determination and discipline to keep going. I WILL lose the weight that I want to lose 🙂

Online, I think I use the same 4 D’s for my work. I have a devotion to improve and pass one what I learn, I’m dedicated to what I commit to, I’m determined to make a success of my efforts and I like to think I’m disciplined, although I could improve that at times.

I loved the video and agree with Corina about the CRAP aspect, very funny and fitting 🙂

Thanks Harleena, enjoy the rest of your week.
    Barry.

PS I’ve added your link to the comment 😉

    1. Hi Barry,

Nor me, but I think certain things you just grow up with while others you adopt into your life, and this helps you become a better person. 🙂

Oh yes…most of these exist online, but they are spoken of or written rather differently than what I mentioned here, because this is how they relate best to me, and I’m sure you are using them too.

Aw…that’s alright, and most of us are! Wow! 4 miles is quite a lot, and with the rate you are going, I’m sure you WILL loose weight. I agree, that is purely all the 4D’s combined!

Yes indeed, I can see your devotion, dedication, determination, and discipline in your work, through your blog and the other one too that you’ve recently started. So, there is certainly a lot of growth and development, and as long as you keep adapting these personal qualities in your life – there is no way you won’t achieve success.

Ah…I also had a laugh on seeing what he mentioned about CRAP, and I think a little humor is something we all need once in a while – isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by and contributing to the post 🙂

  39. Harleena I would incorporate these above Mentioned D’s into my life .. I have a question which I wanted to ask you. The problem with me being unsuccessful is lack of confidence in me. :/ I would want a suggestion from your side as to how I can increase my self confidence that would help me boost my morale …

    Thank You 🙂

    1. Hi Mukul,

That would really be wonderful if you can adapt these personal qualities in your daily life, which would surely help reach greater heights.

Ah…you need to read my post on how to boost self-confidence then…here is the link, especially for you – https://www.aha-now.com/boost-self-esteem/ – Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your feelings 🙂

  40. Hello Harleena Singh,

    1. Hi Manu,

Glad you liked the post and the way it was presented too 🙂

If my posts can help you or anyone, in any way – I think my purpose of blogging is solved to a great extent. Yes, I shall surely visit your blog soon.

Thanks for stopping by, and for your words of appreciation 🙂

  41. Hi again, Harleena,

I have to say that personal development changed my life in many, many ways. I can’t imaging spending a life time and not getting to a point where you wake up and start investigating self development.

I am finding, though, that while personal development is getting more and more widely known, it is STILL unknown by most, if we were to get numbers and averages.

As for success, yes, it is attained by those who have first the will, the desire, and the determination and focus to keep going. There are a lot of people starting businesses, especially online, who do not have the last two, and therefore give up before they even see any level of success at all.

Thanks for another great topic and have a great week!

    1. Hi Sylviane,

I know that as you’ve mentioned it here earlier and also on your blog posts, and I think personal development is a continuous process – it never should end 🙂

I agree with you there – if the will is not there, there can be nothing further. And if they do start, if they are not determined and consistent or disciplined, I wonder how far they can really carry on. It does all come down to adopting these essential personal qualities to achieve success – isn’t it?

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views with us 🙂

  42. Very true, Harleena. And it definitely starts with devotion. If we’re devoted to a certain ideal/person/thing we’ll definitely be determined to see it through to the end.

We also have to be ready to try (this is not a D) different things when we can see that the way we’re going about it is the wrong way. Sometimes we can waste a lot of time trying to do something over and over again, when nothing we do is getting us the result we want.

Sometimes we have to be brave enough to try a different way.

    1. Hi Anne,

It sure does, though for some people that’s hardly a point at all! I guess a lot depends from person to person 🙂

I feel when we are devoted to do something, like you mentioned, we will be determined to see it’s done right through, and that does require dedication and discipline too – isn’t it? So, they are all linked so well together.

I agree, change is something we should adopt and adapt to, if we see things aren’t working the right way, which again few people really take on to.

Thanks for stopping by and contributing to the post 🙂

  43. Going from your list Harleena, I will like to term “Discipline and Determination” the chief among these four.

It does not only make you very successful in life endeavors but also give you the room to make big impact in your world while excelling along with them.

Honestly I am personally motivated with the way you presented your tips.
    Thanks for sharing

    1. Hi Obasi,

Oh yes…those two are important ones for sure 🙂

I think when you are determined you can really set your heart and mind, and really achieve results, and for that, like in anything else in life – you need to be disciplined too. Ah…nice to know that my post on how to be successful by adopting these personal qualities motivated you in some way!

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views 🙂

  44. Well,it is important for one to get education, but, that in itself not a formula for success.Today’s news paper tells of daughter of a driver who has earned a shlarship in the US.
There are examples of those who didnt go far with education but wrote success story.
DhiruBhai Ambani i sone such case.
It has to a combo of one’s positive attitute, commitmment and a lot of luck

    1. Hi BK,

I’m glad you agree with the post. About luck, I feel it is a pretty misunderstood concept, and it can be explained in various ways by people having different beliefs. I’d not comment on that because it’ll need an entire post, however, I’ll do that one day.

Positive attitude and commitment are a must, along with hard work and being smart. DhiruBhai Ambani was smart and intelligent, what if he didn’t have much of formal education.

I agree with you that it is important for one to get educated. That said, education alone is helpless if you’re not able and capable to make the best use of it. This “you” includes your “Self” and personality, including the personal qualities. That daughter of a driver earned the distinction on the basis of her personal merit – her personal qualities. Kudos to her.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and views about the ingredients of success. 🙂

BTW – You are such a great supporter of the blog, but we never get to see you. Why don’t you get yourself a Gravatar, so we know who we are talking to – just a friendly suggestion 🙂

  45. You are absolutely right on the point Harleena that to be successful you need those personal traits. Although in my mind I knew it but you have reinforced it. No matter what you are doing or wanting to do they are important. As you say, it can be developed even if you don’t have them. Hence there is no excuse not to.

    1. Hi Shalu,

Yes, we surely do need these personal qualities to be successful. I agree, though we know most of these, sometimes we need such reminders – isn’t it? Not to mention that I too need to work on a few of these myself and there is no end to working on them and ourselves too.

Thanks for stopping by and contributing to the post 🙂

  46. Awesome article, I do like the 4 D’s model in that is easy to remember and makes sense. The point that Sue made does make sense. When we are in the mindset of self improvement as well as success we focus on the positive sides of qualities in discussion 🙂

I do believe that continuous growth and improvement in all of our qualities is essential to success in life and business.

    1. Hi Susan – nice to have you back 🙂

Glad you liked the post and the 4D’s, which are easy to remember. Oh yes…I loved Sue’s comment and all that she shared with us.

Absolutely! Personal growth and evolving each day is what we need to do to achieve success in our lives.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views 🙂

  47. Hi Mam,

    Your fan again…

Always you are rocking with a such a killer post… Self improvement is the first & best habit, everyone must follow in their life. If we got success in self improvement, we will get everything better in life.

    1. Hi Nirmal – nice to have you back 🙂

Ah…thanks so much for your kind words, and I’m glad you like my posts too. Yes indeed, if can improve ourself, everything around us only gets better. I hope these personal qualities help people help people in more ways than one.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your views 🙂

  48. Hi Harleena,

This was an excellent post and I loved the 4D’s model.

In particular, I really liked the point about devotion. I never thought of this point in relation to self-development before and the more I think about it, it is just like you explained, and devotion is a greater force, which then encapsulates dedication.

I think my personal approach to self-development incorporates a little of all of the D’s. I appreciate your post because it breaks and down and explains the processes that we go through.

I would like to add a point about exploration. I like to adopt the attitude of constant exploration and experimentation when working on self-development activities. Doing so helps to make the activities I’m doing more enjoyable.

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Hiten,

I’m happy that you like the post.

Well, honestly the 4D model isn’t my brainchild, but I do take the credit for presenting it in a different light and in a more explanatory and detailed manner. 🙂

I must admit that I learned a lot about these D’s and especially devotion and dedication while I was researching and writing the post. And that’s the thing I like about blogging that it’s so educating and revealing.

I’d like you to read Sue’s comment on devotion as well – devotion is simply powerful, but it can get complex if the intentions are not good. However, devotion is certainly more driving than passion, which is important too in its place.

Your suggestion about exploration as a personal quality to be successful is splendid. Definitely success requires lot of experimentation, change, and the ability or guts to take calculated risks.

Thanks so much for your quality comment filled with value. I really appreciate your contribution to this post. 🙂

  49. Hi Harleena,

First and foremost, yes, I DO believe in self-improvement!

I can’t disagree with any of the advice in this post, Harleena, but devotion and dedication have to be focused in the right way. Terrorists and religious extremists are devoted and dedicated to their causes. I guess I’m just a bit uneasy about the word ‘devotion’, in particular, because of its religious connotations – blind, unthinking devotion can be a dangerous thing.

As you say, there are lots of personal qualities that can promote your success – one I think is especially important, which I’d want to add to your list, is awareness or mindfulness. As you say in the post, we need to be aware of these personal traits in ourselves, but I think self-awareness itself, as well as awareness of the needs and feelings of others, is a vital quality that we should all strive to cultivate.

Loved the Richard St. John video – I’ve seen it before, but enjoyed watching it again.

Many thanks for a great share, Harleena 🙂

    1. Hi Sue,

I totally agree with the point you’ve made. I did consider that point when the post was in its incubation state, but I was so upbeat and positive while writing the post that I completely forgot about it.

I want to highlight what you said – “devotion and dedication have to be focused in the right way.” And also, “blind, unthinking devotion can be a dangerous thing.”

You’re so right in that devotion can be taken in the wrong sense, used for evil doings, and could even create staunch differences between people if that leads to extremism, as in the case of terrorists and religious extremists, as you suggest.

I think people should consider and be careful that their devotion does not lead to any evil, or hurt self or others, or reaches to such extremes that it becomes abnormal and a problem.

Having said that, devotion is primarily based on your personal beliefs and there’s no way to check on or control that. Only thing that can be done is to impart good education in the right way, and help create an environment that doesn’t let evil take form of seeds to get embedded in your ground of self. The fruit that yields then would probably be negative.

Awareness or mindfulness is a beautiful personal quality to possess, and I agree that self-awareness itself is capable of showing you the right way and path to success.

Thanks so much for giving your valuable input and so important pointers, without which this post might be complete. I appreciate your intentions, efforts and the time you’ve given to this post.

Have a great Friendship Day, my friend. 🙂

  50. Hi Harleena,

    A motivative post. 🙂

It can help people to inculcate the 4 D’s being successful. Problems are a part of our journey and I believe without challenges, life would be so boring. You have rightly said that we are determined to put the best of our efforts in blogging and it is not easy but we are determine.

Disciplined dedicated devotion with a determination to succeed has the power to attract Success.

Thanks for sharing such a deep motivational post.

    1. Hi Ashutosh,

I’m glad you found the post motivational enough. 🙂

That’s the attitude we all should have – life without challenges and problems is boring and dull. I like that.

Blogging is really a great challenge and difficult too, but if we’ve the 4D’s inculcated and activated in our system, we’ve more chances of getting on the other side and be successful.

    1. Hi Pramod,

I agree – the 4D’s and the related personal qualities are a must for any person to develop, if they wish to be successful.

You’re right – we need to take cues and learn from those who’ve been successful, they’ve these 4D’s with them along with the secrets of success as mentioned in the video. I’m glad you like it and the post as well. 🙂

  52. Hello Harleena,

What a lovely post to help be successful and self improvement.

You know, as you’ve said; education level doesn’t make one sucessful. I have seen countless of people who became very successful without without the help education and i know you’ve seen such too 🙂

Let me add mine: the art of never given up, consistency, working smarter, challenge…
Hope my lists are right on point 🙂

Thanks for this wonderful post that worth every read. Have a blessed weekend…

    1. Hi Babanature,

This post was a long over due and I’m glad I wrote it. Thanks for your appreciation.

Yes, I too have seen and know people who ride and gallop ahead of others just on the basis of their enhanced and strong personal qualities, without the aid of education and money. It all comes down to doing and knowing it is not all.

Among the personal qualities you’ve added, I think “working smarter” is really a very important one. All successful people are no doubt hard working, but they’re smart too – if you aren’t then probably you’re going to miss on many opportunities to succeed.

Definitely there will always be challenges on the path to success, and you need to consistently push your way forward without even having the thought of giving up. Your list is right on point!

Thanks for contributing your ideas and thoughts and for visiting my blog. I really appreciate it, my friend. 🙂

  53. Hi Harleena!

Love this post! It’s obvious these D’s go together so we have to work on each of them equally. This is my favorite sentence of your post: “Dedication is a pledge you take to carry out your devotion.”

I watched the video and I loved how he spelled out dealing with CRAP :).

If I could add a D to this list it would be Dignity. We should always maintain our self-respect and integrity.

Hope you’re having a great weekend Harleena! Talk soon my friend! 🙂

    1. Hi Corina,

I’m glad you like this post!

When I set to write it, I found many posts online that mentioned various D’s, but none really discussed the personal qualities logically and in detail. And, you won’t believe this post took a lot more than expected time in deliberation and thinking. I realized that we use some terms without understanding their meaning in depth.

Thanks for contributing your “D” and the other personal qualities that can make us successful. Dignity, self-respect, and integrity – we can never grow in the absence of these very important personal characteristics.

Ah.. the video was a surprise find and an innovative one too. Thanks for taking out time to visit and comment on my blog. Have a wonderful friendship weekend, my friend! 🙂
