Have you ever thought about creating life options?

Well, let me explain the value of life options that we all need to have at some point or the other in our lives.

In daily life, when you’re doing your daily activities you can hit upon stumbling blocks. This is a common occurrence, which all of us experience from time to time.

One of the reasons why you face such challenges is that you get focused on what you’re trying to do in a particular way of doing it. And, if the way you’re doing something isn’t working, then you get frustrated.

You forget you have options to do things in other ways instead.

In order to help you live a wholesome and happy life, you need to consciously create life options for yourself.

Creating Life Options

This is an easy self-help exercise and does not need any specific or special skill. Below are some tips on how you can do this.

1. Do more things

There is nothing like creating more life options for you than to get involved in more things.

For instance, if you’re looking for ways to enhance your career, you can take additional courses or get involved in voluntary activities, which will increase your exposure to different experiences.

When it then comes to looking for work, you have increased your options and can apply for more types of jobs, as you have more skills to offer.

2. Look for opportunities in what you are doing

A simple way to look for life options is to look for the opportunities in whatever you do.

For instance, let’s say you want to increase your income. You can look at all the opportunities that could help you do this.

Perhaps you could get a second job, or start an offline or online business, or invest some money where it will gain a higher interest.

The purpose of consciously thinking about the various ways of doing something enables you to create different ways of doing things.

Although you might only try out one way of doing something at a time, you always have other ways to do so if it doesn’t work out, or if you decide to test another way of achieving your outcome.

3. Options are also in the problems you face

This one is usually a little trickier than point number 2 above, especially if it feels like your world is falling apart because of the problem you have.

Perhaps you just lost your job or maybe a business deal didn’t work out. On such occasions there are usually a number of things you can learn from the experience.

By learning from your mistakes you are actually creating options to try out different and new ways of doing something in the future.

4. Ask for what you want

Creating life options may involve others. Other people can help you achieve what you want. They may even be able to give you what you want.

You could be missing out on many opportunities in a particular aspect of life, because you’re not asking for what you want from those who can help you.

Rather than keep quiet and let opportunities pass away, learn to ask for what you want.

If being able to ask for things doesn’t come naturally to you, then do it a few times and before you know it, you won’t have any problem doing so.

5. Become responsible for yourself

The number of options you have in life can also be impacted by how much control you perceive to have of your own life.

For instance, if you’re dependent upon other people for your happiness, then the number of options you have to create happiness will be limited.

In order to see what is best for you, you need to take responsibility for your own inner joy. Only then will you be able to create and explore options that can improve your life.

6. Keep learning

In order to create life options, keep learning through reading books on how you can improve yourself and by talking and observing others.

The people around you can be a big source of inspiration. What they do, can inspire you to try something new so that you continue to grow.

You can also use what they do to build upon and create more life options for yourself.

7. Adopting an attitude of having options

Whatever thoughts you have in life, you can’t help but attract what is in your thoughts in real life.

By using this principle as a guide, you can create an atmosphere of abundance around you simply by holding the thought that you have options in your mind, again and again, until it becomes a belief. Pretty soon you’ll be looking for options in whatever you do, naturally.

In conclusion

Life options are always around you. However, your ability to see them can become blurred when you get bogged down by challenges you face in your lives.

With a little conscious effort of seeking out options, with an underlying belief that options are available to you, you can overcome barriers and continue to achieve the goals you have set for yourself.

Over to you:

What are your thoughts on creating more life options for yourself? What methods do you use to consciously increase the amount of options and choices you have in life?

    1. Hi King,

Yes indeed, Hiten was kind enough to grace the blog with such a wonderful post on how to create life options for yourself. He IS a great writer, and not to mention the numerous eBooks that’s he’s authored too.

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  1. Hi Hiten,

Thanks for replying to my comment. Glad you liked it.

I have one more way people can find life options: listen to music. Sometimes, I’ll listen to classical, rock, pop, techno, etc. to lift my vibration and shift my thoughts. It works. I usually see things differently the next day and have many AHA moments, which are great for brainstorming life options.

    1. Hi Amandah,

Just saw your comment and thought to reply it here, though Hiten already did earlier 🙂

I agree with you there – music is therapeutic I think, and like you, anything would do for me too as long as it’s music. But I love listening to it only when I am not doing writing or working, or else it becomes a distraction for me. Aha – moments…that’s nice 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  2. Hello,

Realizing that you have the power to create life options is a good thing. Sadly, most people go through life feeling powerless, like they don’t have any power to create the life they want.

It’s that your problems are opportunities for you to do better in your life. However, you must be open to the idea that problems/issues = opportunities.

I like to meditate and journal. The latter is a great way to vent your aggravations, frustrations, etc. Positive emotions and actions can come from your negative emotions. They can be the catalyst that moves you forward in your life.

Remember, you ALWAYS have the option to choose a better feeling thought or action. You can also choose better foods for your body, friends who support you, etc. You always have OPTIONS!

    1. Hi Amandah,

I loved your comment and what you wrote is so true. There are opportunities in our problems. However, one needs to be able to see that problems do give rise to opportunities in the first place. Once a person does this, it can make life quite fun!

Thanks so much for adding your experiences with journaling. This is a great idea. I used to do this when I was younger in order to get over my stammering problem. I would record how my speaking interactions went with people.

You are so right. We always have the option of choosing how we want to feel or how we want to act. This is very powerful and the more people who learn to do this, the better.

      Thanks for your amazing comment!

  3. Inspiring, Hiten!

It’s hard to get along with life, in tough times. But having options always give us a choice. At least, we can be more careful while making decisions.

But people should be conscious enough while opting for something. Else, they would be regretting for the whole life.

    Thanks for the lovely post!

    1. Hi Koundeenya,

It’s great to see you here, my friend!

Indeed, as you said, it’s important that people are conscious of the option they are choosing to run with. This can be done by what Jon said above and evaluating the options and selecting the most appropriate ones. However, even if one way doesn’t work out, we will still have learnt a lot and at least we have other options at hand.

I’m really glad you liked the post and thanks for commenting!

  4. Hi Hiten and Harleena

At the moment, I’m a stay at home dad and I’m creating life opportunities for my kids as that’s more important.

One day though, there will come a point where I need to grab more opportunities for myself. I started my blog to see if that could be a way of doing that and only time will tell.

    1. Hi Tim,

Absolutely, you’re at a stage where creating life options for your children, is a priority. This is interesting as I’m not a parent yet. However, after reading your comment, I can definitely imagine what it must be like to consider creating options for your kids.

Indeed, a blog is a very versatile platform. It may just be a tool that will allow you to create more options for yourself while you also create opportunities for your kids.

Thanks a lot for commenting. It’s great to meet you!

    2. Welcome to the blog – nice to have you over!

Nice to know more about you, and yes, you are right because as parents we do think about creating more life options for our kids, to the best of our abilities.

Along the way, because we remain busy creating options for our family or kids, we forget to think about ourselves. I guess when they grow up a little, we can take out time for ourselves. You surely have an informative blog, and am sure it’s going to create the opportunities you are looking for in your life. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by. Have a nice day ahead 🙂

  5. Great post, Hiten. it is so refreshing. You have a good style of writing that directly touches the heart.

Actually, often we are so engrossed with the problems that we fail to look beyond. it is important to learn to look beyond. when we extend our vision we can see things like untapped opportunities. so, what we need to develop is the ability to look at things from a different point of view.

    1. Hi Koyel,

I’m glad you liked the post and I appreciate your kind words regarding my writing style!

Absolutely, as you said, sometimes our focus on our problems becomes so strong, we can’t see beyond them. Just stepping outside of the box will allow us to see again what we’ve been missing and has always been there.

You’re right, Koyel. Being able to develop this ability to see beyond our problems is something we all need to do.

Thanks for your great comment and it’s fantastic to meet you.

    2. Welcome to the blog Koyel!

You are absolutely right – Hiten is a wonderful writer, and the way he write’s is something that everyone can understand easily too – isn’t it?

When we are surrounded with problems or worries, we tend to get stuck in them. However, when look beyond, we are able to see many options that aren’t visible to us otherwise.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  6. Hi Hiten,

Yes, life options are always around us, but sometimes we don’t see them. I personally some people who have never ever seen their options in life.

That’s why I entered the personal development world. First of I wanted to learn more about my options and then I got so addicted I had to share what I learned with others.

There is a discipline that we can follow that can help us to write down our goals and go for them.

    Thanks for sharing this.

    1. Hi Sylviane,

I too know people who just can’t see the options in their lives. It can be a little frustrating to see this. I guess, what we can do with people who don’t want to listen about creating options in their lives is to share indirect stories from our own life and those of others. The idea that they can create options themselves, might just rub off on them.

My journey into personal development sounds similar to yours. It’s like we enter into the field to improve our lives. We make effort and actually create changes and learn that this works. We then become inspired to share and teach others how to do similar things to what we did!

You’re spot on about writing down goals. Writing them down does wonders in helping us to achieve them.

      Thanks for your great comment!

  7. Hey Hiten,

Great to see you here at Harleena’s blog. Ah, what a wonderful topic and you definitely gave us some great choices in case some people need to chose other options for themselves.

Gosh, I think that at this time I seem to be on the right path but as we all know, things can change rather quickly right. If they do I just might have to revert back to your post so thanks for putting this one together.

Harleena, great choice for a guest blogger! Nice!

    You two enjoy your week.

    ~Adrienne

    1. Hi Adrienne,

It’s great to be at Harleena’s blog and to be hanging out with you all!

I’m glad you could appreciate the various ways to create life options as laid out in the post. It’s also awesome to hear you’re on the right path. Isn’t it great when we read something and it positively validates what we’re already doing?

Absolutely, we can all lose track and go back to old ways. However, by already having done things in different ways, our minds have become used to alternatives, which helps us get back onto the path fairly quickly.

Thanks a lot for your comment and hope you’re having a good week!

  8. Great tips for llife. This is the one that I have been really working on, 4.. Ask for what you want. I have had trouble asking for help from others.

No worries though I am working very hard on this one step at a time. I do have to say, I like 6. too. Keep learning. To me anyone that is not learning something everyday might as well be dead. Life is a journey of learning new things everyday. Some little and some big.

    Thanks Harleena. Love your post.
    Debbie

    1. Hi Debbie,

I’m really happy you enjoyed reading the tips and thanks for sharing your experiences regarding point number 4. It’s great to hear you’re making effort to ask for help.

I too have had trouble with asking. It does seem a bit strange when one does start to ask, especially if one is not used to doing so. However, very rarely do people say no, so we might as well ask!

Indeed, I can resonate with what you said about keep learning. Being in a position where we’re not constantly learning really does look bleak. It would make life so boring, don’t you reckon?

It’s great to see you here, Debbie and thanks for your comment!

  9. Hi Hiten and Harleena,
Great post indeed. I love reading this type of posts because it normally adds more meaning to my life.

I also believe in having many options for my life because you never know which will help you. The best way to build this up in my opinion is by following like minded people and reading some motivational books that will aid you towards attaining that your desired goal.

One of the books I’ve read before that i really enjoyed is The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale and Think Big by Ben Carson.

There are many other books out there that one really have to read on this same topic.

Thanks Harleena for inviting Hiten to share this wonderful tips with us.

    Have a great week.

    1. Hi Theodore,

I’m glad you enjoyed the post and am so happy you could see how it could help you.

Indeed, like you, I too love reading stories about other people who undertook challenges in their lives, through helping themselves and creating more options for themselves. I’m so glad we have access to inspiring stories from people all across the world.

Thanks for the two references. I’ve heard of The Power of Positive Thinking and Think Big but haven’t read them. I will be sure to check them out based on your recommendation. Thanks again.

Many thanks for leaving your wonderful comment, Theodore and have a great week, too! 🙂

  10. Hi Hiten Vyas,

Awesome post teaching how to utilize our life in an appropriate way. We know that our life is short. So we need to do everything in a appropriate time with best effort. Another thing there is no limit of learning.

For a blogger I think it is more than that. Every day even every sec. I am learning new things. So we need to be positive to learn & implement in a best way.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Ahsan,

Thanks for your comment and I’m really glad you enjoyed the post!

I really appreciate your comment and what you wrote got me thinking about something. Life is indeed short and we really do need to create options and then go with certain choices, now. As the old saying goes, life isn’t a rehearsal.

I totally agree that there is no limit to learning and many thanks for sharing your experiences with constantly learning. This is great!

It’s wonderful to meet you, Ahsan. Take care.

  11. Hi Hiten,

Exactly! Getting involved in more activities will create a better profile. Doing more things helping me to feel productive too. However with a caution. If we go too far beyond limits, I don’t think we can get what we want. It’s very subjective and can be wrong for some folks who always beat the limits, no matter what.

I’m inspired by the friend circle around me as I know they have more to deal with while managing their time. I believe having right people around me has been motivating me too.

I’m lack of asking what I want. Seems not confident enough 🙂 But looking for opportunities though. So far I’m happy with the results and one of most awaited opportunities gonna work out this week for me. Anyway I’ll try more to focus on asking too 🙂

Learning can be a huge resource for our lives if we up for it 🙂 I really like learning from each other and observing it another thing I like the most. The question is how much we apply what we learn. Isn’t it Hiten? 🙂

Have a successful week filled with more life options for both of you, Hiten and Harleena 🙂

    Cheers…

    1. Hi Mayura,

I can definitely appreciate what you wrote in your comment and in particular, the point about feeling productive when we’re busy and doing things. I think it’s useful to select those options that not only allow us to be productive, but will help us achieve concrete objectives.

Having a great friend circle and support network can be so powerful and motivational. Such people can encourage us to keep going, especially during those difficult periods.

I loved your attitude with regards to asking for help. You’ve identified an area where you want to make progress and are looking for opportunities to do so! This is brilliant.

Indeed, the question certainly is how much we apply what we learn. I think if we even applied little chunks of useful knowledge we have picked up from learning and watching others, we could make massive amounts of difference.

Thanks so much for your kind wishes of a week full of options, Mayura. The same to you, too! It’s lovely to meet you and your positive energy is a great start for a Monday morning. Thank you.

  12. Hi Hiten,

There are so many options in our journey. When we choose something, and it fails, it is not really failure, but a learning opportunity to do it a different way.

I mostly resonate with #5 and #6! Becoming responsible for yourself. Depending on others will always be a let down and a waste of energy. When we depend upon our selves, we are gaining more strength and a higher self esteem. Having that mindset of responsibility also comes in handy when running your own business. We choose more wisely and can handle our business more effectively.

Also…learn learn learn! There is always a learning curve each day that we encounter. It can be taking a course, or visiting someone’s blog. Our eagerness to learn just gives us more knowledge and therefore makes us feel good. We also can share that knowledge with others.

    Thanks for a wonderful post.

And thank you Harleena for a great guest!

    Donna

    1. Hi Donna,

      Thanks for your brilliant comment!

As you said, when we choose an option and it doesn’t work out, it is never failure. It is a learning opportunity to do it in a different way. I love to use the attitude from the field of NLP that there is no failure, only feedback.

I’m really glad you could resonate with points number 5 and 6. You are right. Depending on others is a waste of emotional energy in the wrong direction. Instead, we can use this energy to do what we can ourselves and ask for help if we need it.

Absolutely, running a business is definitely one way that teaches us responsibility very quickly. What you wrote about learning is so true. It does make us feel good. In particular, I love the feeling when I’ve applied what I’ve learnt and have seen the results in some tangible form.

Thanks for commenting and it’s lovely to meet you.

  13. Hi Hiten,

Nice post, as u say we must consider all available options and choosing the best one. If one not work, other can try, never loose hope. The question arise with which one we should go?

Here we confused but we can discuss with friends, co-workers,and some others to make sure.Success is around us just a need to explore the available opportunities.

    1. Hi Rupali,

Thanks for adding so much more to this post.

As you said, when we do create a number of life options, it then becomes a case of deciding on the best ones to take. I really appreciate how you said we can do this by discussing with our friends, colleagues and other people we know.

      This is brilliant! Thanks, Rupali.

  14. Hello Harleena and Hiten,
Life long learning is the No1 pick for me alongside always looking on the bright side. Keep learning about the key stuff and about yourself … it’s like a text book that never closes. Thankyou for this.
    Be good to yourselves
    David
    Life Coach. Listener. Life Lover.

    1. Hi David,

Indeed, lifelong learning is what it is all about! I believe that’s what makes life so interesting, having the option to keep on learning and becoming wiser.

As you brilliant stated, it’s a like a text book that never finishes. And I agree to always look on the bright side of life.

      Thanks for commenting, my friend.

  15. This is so true that we forget we have options! I can remember a time in my youth when I was very unhappy about a situation. I thought I was stuck in my circumstances, and I struggled to endure what I thought was unchangeable. Then all of a sudden one day, I realized I had options. They had always been there, but my locked in thinking prevented me from seeing them. Once I saw that I had choices, it was so easy to make a different choice and to free myself from what was causing me such misery. Ever since then, I have remembered that lesson. When I feel trapped, I start looking for other options. I love this post!

    1. Hi Galen,

I’m so glad you liked this post!

Thanks very much for sharing the story about the time in your youth. It sounds like your experience with realising you had options after all was very liberating. Such a realisation can be so powerful and attitude shifting. It’s like our minds are now working for us and helping us to find solutions to those problems, which we previously felt we couldn’t do anything about.

I loved the way you wrote how you always look for options when you feel trapped.

Many thanks for sharing your experience and adding more to this post!

  16. Hi Hiten, it’s great to see you over at Harleena’s blog.

Yes, I agree with you about creating options for yourself. A lot of people have a ‘wait and see’ attitude, but this post proves that going out and making opportunities for your self is the way to go. If we sit and wait, we could be waiting forever.

    1. Hi Anne,

I loved what you wrote in your comment about the ‘wait and see’ attitude. This one is just too passive for my liking. By adopting such an approach, many years can pass and one still won’t have made much progress with their endeavours.

As you quite rightly said, one can be waiting forever. I always like to consider what we will think, when we look back on our lives when we’re about to die. We don’t want to regret not taking all the options that were right in front of eyes when we were younger.

Thanks for your great comment, Anne!

  17. This is a great guest post – Lovely – great ideas! Thanks! Judy

    1. Hi Judy,

I’m really glad you enjoyed the post and thank you for your words of appreciation!

It’s good to meet you and I hope you’re having a good weekend.

  18. Of all the points you raised. There was only one point which hit me hard and that has to do with keep learning.

    1. Hi Kabenlah,

It’s great to meet you and I’m really glad that point number 6 about learning really resonated with you! Through learning we increase our knowledge about different ways to do things. And by observing others, we get to see various ways to do activities, in action!

      Thanks for leaving your comment.

    2. Welcome to the blog Kabenlah!

Glad you could relate to the post, and yes learning is what keeps us going. Besides increasing our knowledge it helps us keep in touch with things too especially when we observe other doing things – just as Hiten mentioned, which are all needed in life – aren’t they?

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  19. Hiten,

Great post. Another important thing to do is think. We need to spend time thinking through our options, their potential impact, and what the opportunity could bring. It is not about getting stuck in our thoughts but in getting comfortable with the changes ahead and understand where our thoughts wander. We may need to ensure we release the unproductive ones and grab on to the ones that take us in a new intended way.

    Thanks!

    Jon

    1. Hi Jon,

I’m so glad you liked the post!

Many thanks for adding another dimension to the area of creating more life options. As you said, once we have a set of options that we can take, we need to consider their outcomes. Doing so will help us select out those which will have a bigger impact and try these ones first.

Many thanks for your awesome comment!

  20. Thank you for these excellent words of advice!

A successful life is a combination of the right mind set and taking action. These tips will help anyone accomplish both and ultimately reach their goals. Thank you again for communicating this wonderful message and positively impacting the lives of your readers : )

    1. Hi Joe,

I’m so glad you found the advice in the post helpful!

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head with you comment. I loved the way you summarised being successful through having a combination of action and the right mind set. I totally agree with you.
The great thing about our minds is we can always change our thoughts and attitudes, to help us engage in action that will help us achieve our goals.

It’s great to meet you, Joe! 🙂

    2. Welcome to the blog, Joe! Glad you came over. 🙂

I agree with you that Hiten has provided wonderful pointers that can turn around our life.

It’s a pity we don’t use our mind to its full potential, isn’t it? I went over to your blog and saw that you’ve read and written a lot about mind. It’s one of my favorite subject too!

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you around! 🙂

  21. I’m with Lisa who commented above about having too many eggs in too many baskets. I feel like i’m so stretched thin. Lately i’ve been trying to focus on just 3 things at a time which seems to be working much better now. I’m less stressed out.. but I always feel the need to do more. i think i may have an obsessive compulsive disorder.. or something?

    1. Hi Annie,

It seems like your experiencing what happens when one has too many options! I think it’s great that you’ve decided to scale down and focus on 3 things at a time. It sounds like you’re doing a lot already. Perhaps you could use the feeling that you need to do more, as a sign that you’re already doing enough?

Many thanks for sharing your experiences about this area.

  22. Interesting topic on life options.

Its all about creating one for yourself and grabbing any opportunities that come your way. The most successful people have managed to create something against adversities and challenges. Similarly, one has to keep your eye open and grab it. There is no point blaming anyone.

    1. Hi Shalu,

I’m glad you found the topic of the article interesting!

I could really resonate with your comment. You used the word ‘create’, which is one of my favourite words. Many people believe they are stuck with whatever life throws at them. I used to be like this. However, we can literally ‘create’ the lives we want for ourselves.

As you said, the most successful people have created a better life for themselves after experiencing serious challenges. I agree one has to keep their eyes open and grab the opportunity when it arises.

It’s great to meet you Shalu and thanks for your brilliant comment.

  23. Hi Hiten and Harleena – wonderful post and really true reflections on how to create options/opportunities for yourself.

The first two points are completely on point. People don’t realize that opportunities come when you do more things. That starts with simply doing more. Sometimes showing up for a talk, volunteer project, meeting is a start. Everything starts from somewhere. The work I do today started from volunteering a lot of hours over a summer. The contacts I made and some of my good friends were from that experience. Doing more will undoubtedly help you find more opportunities but it starts with what can be the hard (and easy part) doing something. showing up. taking the first step.

This is a great post on people who are sitting back and wondering where are their opportunities in life? They are out there but we have to do our part. Thank you both for this post.

    1. Hi Vishnu,

I’m so glad you liked the post!

Indeed, the first point is so simple, yet sometimes we can easily forget just to do more things!

Your experiences with creating more options for yourself through volunteering over the summer were brilliant! Thanks very much for sharing. As your experiences showed, by doing, you met with the right people and made friends too. The point you made about showing up reminded me of my public speaking. I only have a meeting once or twice a week. Sometimes, I think I really don’t want to go on a particular evening. However, I get over this by remembering that I will come out of the meeting feeling much better and I usually make new friends each time I go.

As you said, the options are out there. However, we need to do our part, show up and take the first step.

Many thanks for adding some great experiences and insights to this post.

    2. Welcome to the blog Vishnu – nice to have you over 🙂

Hiten’s surely done a wonderful job of writing all about how we can create more life options for ourselves – hasn’t he?

I agree, the more you do the more the opportunity. If we don’t make the first move, how will anything happen. Nice to know more about your work and how you found many opportunities through that, and yes, it also opens more opportunities to make new contacts and friend’s. Nevertheless, it all comes down to recognizing the options life has put forth us and going ahead and making use of them. 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  24. Lovely post.

I love number 6 “Keep Learning”. Knowledge is power. The people around us have great impact in your life and determines how far we would go, so choose your FRIENDS wisely.

    Thanks for sharing.
    Many thanks,

    Seun

    1. Hi Seun,

I’m really glad you could resonate with point number 6 about learning. As you quite right said, knowledge is power. It gives us the basic ingredient, which we can use to help change and improve our lives.

You are so right about choosing friends wisely. They really can make an impact on how much progress we make. When I was younger, I had to ditch a whole bunch of ‘friends’ as these individuals were going nowhere.

Many thanks for commenting. It’s wonderful to meet you.

  25. Hello Hiten welcome to Harleena’s blog 🙂

This is a great inspirational masterpiece that is worth wowing for…
As a human, the day you start blaming others for your sin that’ll be the day of your downfall. so who’s better to blame then yourself.
And owww… The thing i’ll never stop doing in life is stop learning and gaining news things 😀

Thanks again for this great post and do have a great weekend ahead

    1. Hello Babanature,

Thanks so much for the warm welcome!

Thanks also for your words of appreciation for the article.

Your point about blaming others is true and very interesting. When we do this, we totally give away our power to create the attitudes, thoughts and behaviours (our ability to create options for ourselves) that will serve us and help us to develop. Blaming others shifts responsibility but ends up creating so many more limitations in the process.

I loved the way you ended your comment by stating you’ll never stop doing and learning in life. This displays such a powerful and enthusiastic energy! Thank you, Babanture!

      Hope you’re having a good weekend! 🙂

  26. Hello Hiten, great article my friend.

There’s some many things we can do to make life more interesting, learning is surely at the top of the list.

You should always keep your options open and invite new challenges because you never know what’s behind that door of opportunity.

Embrace what the world has to offer you and run with it 🙂 you’re limiting your self if you think there’re no more options in life because there’s always an option and you always have choices.

Thanks so much for the share my friend it’s great to see you here at AHA!NOW..

    Have a wonderful day everyone.

    1. Hi Rob,

It’s lovely to see you here, my friend!

I’m so happy you enjoyed the article. Your comment was brilliant and thanks so much for sharing your views on the area of life options. To extend upon your comment, inviting new challenges helps us grow. Without them, we’re stuck where we are.

Absolutely, it’s always best to take an option and go with it. The outcome will happen and it will be whatever it will be. The main thing is we did something new. In the process we will learn and develop.

Many thanks for adding so much more to this post, Rob.

    2. Welcome to the blog Rob!

I agree – learning never stops, at least it shouldn’t for those who want something more out of life. 🙂

Challenges I feel are a part of our lives, and they always teach us something in return, so facing them is what makes our lives more worthwhile. Similarly, failures should always be taken as stepping stones to get better, and eventually achieve success.

Yes indeed, life is full of options, but it’s just that we either don’t see those life options or choose to ignore them. I strongly feel every problem has a solution, we just need to find it.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  27. Hi Hiten, A warm welcome here to Harleena’s place. Your article is wonderful, truly in keeping with the quality and tone of Aha!Now.

I think about this a lot. When you write fiction, you try to put your character in a tight spot where he/she seems to have no options. But then an unanticipated option is used and the day is saved!

So often people don’t think that they have options but that is rarely the case. Hiten, you offer excellent solutions for people to discover or create options to change their lives. Well done!

    1. Hi Carolyn,

Thank you for the warm welcome and I’m so happy you enjoyed the article!

Indeed, I can appreciate what you wrote about writing fiction. A character that seems to have no options, yet something happens and an option which previously wasn’t apparent helps the person, can make an entertaining story.

The issue of having more life options is something which is very close to me. I came from a position where previously I would see no options because of the limitations I had put on myself.

Thanks for commenting, Carolyn. Once I again, I’m really glad you liked the article.

  28. All great tips on how to really get unstuck, push past your comfort zone, and get moving forward towards the life you want.

I especially like number 5 – Become responsible for yourself. I’m sure I am not the only one who has been guilty of depending on other people to bring me the things I want in life. Once I decided that I was responsible for my own life, and started actively trying to take action on my life in all areas, I noticed a huge shift in the amount of opportunities that came my way (and also how often I grabbed a hold of them.)

I would also say that leaning into my fears has helped me create more options. For instance, I wanted to write an eBook, but I was terrified to do it…when I finally leaned into my fear and let myself work through that fear instead of ignoring it I was able to finally get ‘er done and figure out how to write that book.

    1. Hi Kari,

It’s wonderful to see you here!

Indeed, number 5 does seem like a popular one and I’m glad you could resonate with this point. Thanks a lot for sharing your experiences around this area.

Taking responsibility for our lives is liberating as we take back control and get into the driving seat. Like some of the other commenters above, when we do this, the amount of options we have seem to increase, as we understand that we need to take action to improve our lives.

Congratulations on your eBook and I loved the approach you used for writing it. Thanks for sharing this with us. I do something similar at times. If an unhelpful emotion is getting the better of me, rather than resist it, I welcome it and establish the positive intention behind it. After doing this, I continue with whatever I’m doing.

      Thanks for your comment.

    2. Welcome to the blog Kari!

Hiten’s surely shared some great tips in the post, which are bound to help all of us 🙂

Oh yes…concerning #5 you are surely not alone, as I am another one who depends on my hubby for a lot of things (mostly the tech stuff!). But like you mentioned, and just the way it is in life – if you decide to take control of the things yourself – you can do them. Life does open many options for you, which you have to just see, and it’s all about having a positive mindset and getting down to it – isn’t it?

I agree about having our own share of fears, and fighting those fears is what really helps. Congratulations on your eBook too!

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  29. Thanks for this post, Hiten and Harleena.

It made me look back and see how I created more options for myself. I think the moment I started taking responsibility for my life and not blaming circumstances or other people, I started to have a lot more options. Reading too opened a whole world of options for me. And of course, I am constantly inspired by others, not in the least, both of you. 🙂

    1. Hi Corinne,

I’m really pleased you enjoyed the post!

Like Deone above and I, it seems like taking responsibility for your own life helped to increase the life options available to you. Just like you, reading helped me a lot too. Reading that is backed up by action, can do wonders for our confidence and our ability to create more options for ourselves.

Thanks for your kind words, Corinne! Likewise, I continue to be inspired by you and Harleena, too! 🙂

      Many thanks for your comment!

    2. Hi Corinne,

Glad you could relate so well to Hiten’s post 🙂

Yes indeed, if we are able to do as you said – take responsibility for our own lives, without blaming or pointing fingers at anyone, we open a lot of life options for ourselves. Ah..your reading too – how could I forget that 😉 You all inspire me too and that’s what keeps me going 🙂

Thanks for stopping by – have a lovely day 🙂

  30. Great article Hiten

It really helps to stop and think and reflect before ruling out that their are no options in life. When we hit obstacles its easy to think there are not other ways out but to give up. What takes a bit of work (being open to other options and following through using steps you listed above) can greatly improve the quality of our lives.

    Thanks for sharing these tips.

    1. Hi Ashley,

I’m really glad you enjoyed the article!

Indeed, it is occasions when we hit obstacles that options can be difficult to see. However, most times it is adopting another way of doing things that helps us to overcome the obstacle. Sometimes giving up can seem like such a tempting option. However, this option will in no way help us. Anything worth having, takes work and effort and one will need to be prepared to try out different way to achieve whatever he/she has set out to do.

Thanks a lot for adding your great insights to this post, Ashley. It’s really good to meet you.

  31. You pointed out a very important part with number four. People are so afraid to ask others for something, whether it is for help, guidance, or opportunities.

This severely limits their life options because they are now stuck with the miracles that only they can create and then they hope others will come in voluntarily to lend a hand. That is NOT how life works and sometimes you need to be the one to ask and seek others for guidance.

    1. Hi Vincent,

I agree with what you wrote in your comment about point number 4. Asking for help from others is something that people can be afraid to do. I used to be such a person. My major problem was a lack of self-esteem, which made it hard to ask people for help. Once I got this issue sorted out, I was more able to request help.

As you said, not asking for help seriously limits one’s life options. We really cannot do everything alone, even though at times we may think we can. People support each other and can help to create options for each other. In this sense, I think networking is something that can help all of us and it is important to devote some time both offline and online to increase our contacts.

Many thanks for leaving your comment.

    2. Welcome to the blog Vincent!

You are so right about people being afraid to ask others for help, or anything else – their own fear or sometimes ego comes in the way. I guess all of us have a little of that in us, I do too at times. But with time we learn to fight those fears and let down our egos – don’t we?

I agree with what you and Hiten said – we really can’t function if we don’t seek help where we need it, and it’s nice that we can all meet up online and try to help each other out by sharing our views and experiences, and creating more options too. 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  32. Hi Hiten!

Awesome post and one that definitely makes you think. I’m always open to broadening my horizons. I prefer to call it “evolving” in my case and I’m forever doing it. A change here or there, striving to obtain what I want, and dabbling into new things. If a person can do this, it’s fabulous! However, there are so many people who (1) can’t evolve; or (2) prefer just being stagnant. I feel sorry for those folks. They are missing out on so much.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Bren,

I’m really glad you liked the post and it’s great to meet you!

I loved what you wrote about always evolving! This is exactly what we are doing when we are experimenting with different options.

I appreciate what you wrote about some people refusing to evolve. It’s a tricky one because we come across such people in our lives. One can see the potential in them. However, they can’t see their own potential. In such cases, I find it hard to not make suggestions. However, I usually refrain from doing so, unless the person genuinely asks for help.

Thanks a lot for commenting. I appreciate your support.

  33. A very pertinent post, Hiten! It’s wonderful reading you over here on Harleena’s playing field!

Creating options for ourselves is definitely something we should turn our attention to in life. If we don’t create them for ourselves, we could very well risk placing the power to do so, in places that cannot deliver the desired return we seek.

I have definitely owned the power to create options in my life. In fact, it was #3 that thrust me into doing #5. I had hit rock bottom in my life, having faced hardships, painful losses, and a serious case of depression. I thought my life had come to an end, and no more options were available for me. It wasn’t until then that I begin seeing how I had arrived in such a predicament in the first place. It became clear as a glass of water; my life was in ruins because I had placed my power to create in others. I looked for people to provide me with options, instead of coming up with my own.

The vicissitudes in life is what gave me the clarity I needed to take life back from those who were nowhere to be found. When friends and family leave you in the misery of self-pity and defeat, the only thing left to do is either, give up altogether, or bounce back right where you stand. When bouncing back is our choice, the options will began revealing themselves to us. Action is a requirement though. We must “act” if we ever want anything in our lives to change.

    1. Hi Deone,

It’s so nice to see you here, my friend!

I’m so excited to be hanging out with all of you and Harleena at Aha!NOW!

Your comment was so inspiring. Thank you so much for writing it and sharing your experiences. I could definitely resonate with what you wrote about hitting rock bottom and realising how depending on others, caused so much of the difficulties in the first place. As you’re aware, I grew up with a stammering problem and I was living in constant fear and anxiety for years. However, everything I experienced I would blame on others. It was only when I began to look for solutions to my problems and took responsible for myself, did I actually learn how much of my problems were self-created.

Absolutely, as you say, when faced with such predicaments, the two options are either to give up or bounce right back. I’m so glad to have made the latter option in my own life. However, there are many people who will give up, which is sad and unfortunate.

I agree action is a must. When one is coming from a dark place in life, action will sometimes feel strange and awkward. Sometimes one can even doubt that what he/she is doing is going to work. I know I have many times and still do, depending on what I’m doing. However, with strong faith, persistence and a support network, success in life will happen. It’s just a matter of time.

Thanks for leaving such an awesome comment, Deone.

  34. Really great post!

I find that using options opens you to amazing things in life. My son turned me on to it to challenging me whenever things got tough – he’d say “what’s another option Mom” and then he’s say it again and again until my mind loosened up on the subject. 🙂 Really works – thanks for the reminder Hiten!!

    1. Hi Karen,

Thanks for sharing such a golden nugget of a question, which your son asks you! This is absolutely amazing. There is huge potential to shift another person’s perspective if he/she is feeling stuck when we ask them such a question. As you said, it really loosens up your mind.

Thanks very much again for sharing this and for leaving your comment.

It’s fantastic to connect with you.

    2. Welcome to the blog Karen – nice to have you over. 🙂

You are absolutely right – it does open many doors in life. I like your son’s challenge and wonder what you must be replying, though I guess you would have found your answers through Hiten’s post 🙂

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  35. Hi Hiten,Glad to see you here.

You have chosen very interesting topic for discussion.Life has been a great teacher for me and I think I’ve been able to overcome several odds in my life and the one being me being an introvert.Secondly blogging has really developed my ability to think differently and I’ve been learning on daily basis from everyone around.

Luckily I’ve been surrounded by many like minded and highly skilled people like Harleena Di and Yourself.I want to remain a student for life and I know this is easier said than done, but the start has been with positive attitude and hope the things will continue to move in the right direction.Blogging is there for passion but it has given me an options and reason to connect with many of the best, it has given me reasons to prioritize many things even though it is an evolving process for me.

Thanks a lot for this share. Have a great weekened. @Harleena Di – Happy weekend to Harleena Di as well.Sapna

    1. Hi Sapna,

Many thanks for your thoughtful comment and sharing your views and experiences.

Indeed, being an introvert does make life interesting. However, I believe there is a lot of strength in the character of an introvert. As someone who is more unassuming, it took me a while to figure out that what I previously believed to be limitations were actually strengths.

The point you made about being surrounded by likeminded people really works both ways, as I feel very lucky to have connected with you and Harleena. It is amazing how we can learn from each other and help each other get through our days, weeks, months and years. We really are a part of strong and supportive communities and Harleena definitely has created an amazing one here at Aha!NOW.

The point you made about blogging is so interesting. Each of us probably started blogging for different reasons. However, it is blogging that offers various options to do things.

I’m really glad you liked the post and thanks for adding so much more to it. Have a great weekend, too!

  36. Hi Hiten,

Having an option doesn’t gives anything but make us feel like that we do have another alternative. But we have some Problem when we have an Alternative we may confuse with all those extra options. But by selecting correct option where we get good results and Getting a satisfaction on what option we have chosen,!!

    Cheers!!
    ~Srikanth

    1. Hi Srikanth,

      Thanks for your great comment!

Indeed, there is fine balance with having too few options and too many options. Too many options can cause the potential for confusion. I guess in this case, at least we can do something in a number of ways. By doing this, we will learn from our experiences and figure out which ways work and which ones do not work as well.

It’s great to connect with you, Srikanth! 🙂

  37. Love it! I’m NLP qualified and very much into personal development and a lot of internet posts are just surface level, but this one is deceptively powerful. I can relate to a lot of the things mentioned. Just becoming aware that we have the power to create “life options” is a very liberating thing. Excellent post. Maybe a follow up post sometime with greater detail and more examples?

    Cheers!

    1. Hi Harry,

I’m really glad you could relate with the points covered in the post. Indeed as you say, just increasing our awareness that we can create life options is very powerful.

I think Harleena can decide if she would like me to write a follow up post, sometime in the future! 🙂

      Thanks for commenting, Harry.

    2. Welcome to the blog Harry!

Nice to know more about you and yes, when Hiten writes, it HAS to be a powerful one 🙂

Glad you could relate to what’s mentioned in the post, and yes, perhaps there might be a follow up one with more details from Hiten at a later one too.

      Thanks for stopping by. 🙂

  38. Harleena, I’d agree with Enstine, never put all your eggs in one basket. Lately I feel like I have too many baskets though 🙂 I love learning new things and try to learn something new each and every day. I just need to develop the attitude that you mentioned 🙂

    1. Hi Lisa,

I just wanted you to know that this is a guest post by Hiten Vyas. He really has some wonderful ideas to share. I’m sure he has read your comment and will reply to it. 🙂

    2. Hi Lisa,

      Thanks for your comment!

Indeed, I can appreciate the point you make about having too many baskets. This then can create the potential issue of having so many options that it can get a little overwhelming. Still, this is a better position to be in, as opposed to not having enough life options.

Many thanks for contributing to the discussion.

  39. Hey Hiten,

This is the first blog post I’m reading this morning. I read it with a smile and some calmness. Looks like a better day for me 😉

I think not having options in life is like bundling your eggs in one basket and we all know what happens if it crashes. Seriously, you hit the 7 points.

There are more opportunities in blogging. It’s not just about ones own blog. I think if we keep learning, ask questions, etc, we will always have many more baskets to put our eggs.

Many more life options = Multiple Sources of Income. Am I right?

    1. Hi Enstine,

I’m so glad this post helped to get you into a good state for today! This is wonderful.

What you wrote in your comment, about not having life options being like bundling all your eggs into one basket, is exactly how it is! Absolutely, if that basket drops then we’ve got problems. Of course, if we make effort to create plenty of options to fall back on, then we’re fully prepared for setbacks.

I totally agree with you. Many life options can also mean various sources of income. Thanks so much for leaving your comment, Enstine.

It’s wonderful to connect with you! 🙂

  40. Hi Hiten,

Welcome to Aha!NOW as a guest author! Nice to have you over with a lovely post that can help one move any stumbling blocks in life.

It’s really surprising that sometimes in such blocking situations it just doesn’t come to mind that we can try other options. However, if we’re prepared with options, we’re much comfortable and less stressed.

The key is to be aware and know that you always have options in life. One just needs to keep the eyes and mind open, keep moving and have hopes.

I like your style of being clear and direct in laying out a precise plan without any fuss, and I’m sure my blog readers will find it helpful too. And this time on-wards I won’t be interfering with my comments except to welcome new commenters, instead, leave it all to you to handle our interactive community 🙂

Thanks for being here and making all the efforts to enlighten the Aha!NOW blog community with your wonderful post! So here you are 🙂

    1. Hi Harleena,

Thank you so much for the warm welcome to Aha!Now and thank you for hosting my guest post! I’m absolutely thrilled to be here and I hope your readers enjoy the post.

I’m really glad you liked my style of writing. Indeed, I usually like to get the point fairly quickly. I hope this post will help people to consider that life options are always there.

It is most important to remember this when we’re faced with difficulties. Such times are not always easiest to do so. Having said this, they are also the occasions when seeking and trying out another option will help us get unstuck.

I’m really looking forward to the discussions on this area, Harleena and thank you once again. 🙂
