4 Tips to Save on Your Car Insurance

Did you know that you can reduce your car insurance costs by opting for a highr-deductible policy? Here are some more uncommon tips you should know to save more on the car insurance costs.

Look Into Group-Sponsored Policies

If you belong to a club or professional organization, you may be surprised to learn that they can sponsor your insurance.

Group rates are commonly available through an insurer, and your group may already be enrolled.

This is a great way to cut costs dramatically, and even if you do not belong to any organizations, you might be able to snag some savings through your employer.

You can find out more by getting in touch with your human resources department or insurance agent. Savings can range from 5 to 10 percent, depending on your eligibility.

A little homework will be necessary if you are not a member of a professional or club organization. Months before the policy is over make sure that you analyze the possibility of joining such a club.

Just make sure that associated costs will not make overall costs a lot higher as this is sometimes a possibility.

Stick With Your Current Provider

Advertisements constantly invite policyholders to switch from their current provider and try a new insurance company. These ads offer lower rates and better service, and at first glance, they may seem to offer some promising savings.

In order to combat competitors, however, many providers offer customers incentives to continue service. This means that you may be able to obtain a loyalty or long-time customer discount on your car insurance.

Discounts like these will rarely be applied automatically, so you should reach out to your provider to see if you are eligible.

When it is time for your car insurance policy to be renewed, you want to talk with a representative of the company.

This is definitely important, and you want to discuss the different options that are available and that come from your current provider.

There is no way to be aware of the discounts if you are not aware of them so be sure that you ask all questions you may have during your meeting.

If saving money is wrong, I dont want to be right

Prevent, Plan, and Save

Insurance is all about preparing for the unexpected, and your provider will likely reward you for taking your own preventative measures.

Because your insurer wants to protect your car and safety to prevent a claim, you can inquire to see if installing anti-theft or safety-monitoring devices in your car can earn you lower rates on your car insurance.

In many cases, qualifying additions will result in a discount on your bill, and it can be substantial. Savings for the installation of some devices can start at ten percent and be as high as 25 percent.

We should add that having a safe driving record does help you to save a lot more than you may think at first glance. It is always a very good idea to prove the fact that you are a safe driver by not having accidents.

The more time passes without problems affecting your car insurance, the higher the possibility that you are going to have a lower monthly premium!

You want always to be ready for the savings. Prevention and planning are always necessities that should never be neglected.

Manage Your Deductible

Your policy’s deductible is determined by a number of factors. It is ultimately decided by your insurer, but there are steps you can take to manage it.

One of the biggest factors that can inflate the cost of your premium is opting for a low-deductible policy.

The cost of your policy and your deductible are inversely proportional. So the lower your deductible is, the higher your monthly or biannual rate will be. If you need to reduce your costs, you can opt for a higher deductible.

Conclusion

These are just a few of the ways you might not have thought to save on car insurance.

When you are shopping for a policy, trust a qualified and professional agent to help you find the right coverage. This is something that few people consider.

The common approach is to look for a car insurance policy alone. Working with a professional will help a lot more than you may think.

It is always your responsibility to learn absolutely everything that you can about the car insurance policy that you are about to receive.

Make sure that you work only with those providers that have a very high reputation.

The last thing you want to be faced with is the situation in which you are not going to receive money from your policy as something bad happens.

  1. Nice thought to share about car insurance, really Car insurance is a great deal to overcoming your car caring time, but we should be carefully shopping of insurance policy.

  2. Car insurance is blessing and mandatory in countries where cost is very high if the car has some problem. You cant dare to drive it if you don’t have insurance

  3. Hey AHA,

I saw this post and knew I would take interest. I am the slackest when it comes to car insurance. I dislike the whole process. I will continually renew a policy without even looking at it. Never considered savings. When someone rings to tempt me to change services I go into avoidance mode.

When I used to get my reminder that insurance payments were due – I would say to myself (right this time I am going to check pricing and compare rates), but I never did. I did not even see if my own service provider would do a better deal and I was a great customer.

So the tips here are great and I had no idea that there was a whole group insurance thing happening. Nor did I think about asking my employers when I did work for other people.

Some handy tips here for savings that I have indented into my mind.

    Thanks.

    Rachel.

  6. Hi Harleena,

For my own personal experience with car insurance, staying with the same company for a very long time is what pays off the most. I think that hopping from one to the other is not the way to go to save money with car insurance, even though when you watch commercials that’s what those insurance are trying to entice you in doing.

  7. Hi Harleena, Yes, in the US many people do drive and car insurance can be quite costly. We bundle our car insurance with our homeowners insurance to save money. We go with a highly rated company though. I would rather pay more and get excellent coverage than save a few dollars to get worse service.

  8. In general, good tips, but I disagree with staying with your current provider. I have actually switched to another company b/c their ads said I would save money, and I did – a nice percentage, too. However, I once got a quote from another company that said I could save money, and it was MORE than what I was paying this other company.

So it depends on the company.

Also, I want to add one tip: buy older cars. Insurance on them are cheaper than on new cars.

  9. Hi Harleena Mam!

I never thought of Group-Sponsored Policies. That’s something I’ll find out from my provider.

Thanks for posting on something I have never read about in my community. 😉

  12. Car insurance is very important in the United States. Did you know without it you can be fined? It’s been quite some time since I shopped around for car insurance but back in the day, I did. I would call different companies and see what incentives they offered, can they beat my current premium, and what type of discounts do they have for good drivers.

Thankfully, my current provider can not be beaten and hasn’t been in many years. They offer many discounts for good driving, defensive driving courses, multi-car, and so much more.

Thank you for sharing this great article. Passing it along for others to read.
