With social media now being the main core the way businesses are influenced and dependent on, you certainly need to give it more attention.

Wielding the Social Media Wand

When you consider social media the bare facts can surprise you.

While you may possess presence in social media, it does not necessarily mean you are wielding social media influence.

In other words, in the realm of social media, you should know the stark difference that exists between irrelevance and relevance and anonymity and visibility.

What I mean by influence is you may have great content to share, but when you don’t have influence, there will be no one to listen to it.

So without influence, you are doing an exercise in futility.

When you understand the ways to get the influence by building up your own unique identity, the path to success in blogging will be clear and you can cruise through easily without any hitches.

Goals letters with animated figures

1. Decide on the Social Media Objectives for Your Blog

While social media can be used for accomplishing several objectives of your blog, I’d suggest that you focus on a minimum set of goals that are primarily needed for your blog’s success.

What things do you prioritize as far as your blog is concerned? Is it building awareness, sales or getting more retention and loyalty?

You need to choose what you need the most and build the strategy based on it.

To form a solid social media strategy, you should set higher level objectives.

From increasing sales and customer retention to reducing costs, making marketing efficient and streamlining customer support, there are several things which you have to concentrate on and give importance to, while you develop the social media plan.

Okay, this may sound too ambitious for you, when you are at ground zero, but when you set realistic timeframes and goal, it’ll be easier to scale than setting unrealistic goals and getting disappointed at the end.

Symbols of various social media platforms

2. Study various Social Media Platforms

While you may think that having an account on the various social platforms will suffice, you’re grossly mistaken. Plunging in recklessly without a plan is not a good way to reach your goals.

To capitalize on the immense resources and benefits that social media has, you need to have more than just a blog with just a few posts in the past six months, a Facebook page with a couple of followers and a Linked in account with a handful connections.

This clearly shows that your social media presence is sorely lacking in relevance. If you don’t have the right connections and influence, and lack the proper user engagement, you cannot go anywhere.

Though all social media may look the same to you, the difference between Twitter and Google+ is like comparing apples to oranges. Each and every platform has its own uniqueness, style, practice, and mainly its own audience.

You can however pick the social platform that suits your needs the best. This way you need not have a presence in all of them but a few targeted ones, which can deliver what you aim at.

Some of the factors you can consider while researching the social networks are the time you can devote per day on the social network, the resources you need and whether the network is the place where your target customers hang around.

These factors will help you pick the social networks you need to try and also how many you can handle.

Target Audience for Social Media

3. Analyze Your Target Audience

Knowing who you’re interacting with in the social media is important.

I don’t think you’d want to dive in without any planning on the product you promote or the logistics present in the service being of help to the public, when in reality it does not even produce a single ripple.

With a proper analysis of your target audience, you can be assured of all your efforts bearing fruits. Find out what the psychographic and demographic properties of your potential and existing customers are.

Get to know how you can influence them and get them interested in the product through social media.

If you don’t want to waste your precious time and resources, the best thing I’d suggest is performing a proper analysis of your target market. This will guarantee that you’ve got the details and information you need on your target audience.

The analysis will ensure that you’ve chose the right demographic or if not, you can start targeting on a more effective section of the population.

This will make your work more focused and you also get to decide on the marketing techniques for the product or services you want to concentrate on more, even before you start providing them.

4. Determine the Posting Strategy

So you’ve made all the preparations you need for your social media marketing. What next?

Choose the amount, frequency, and time when you post in the various social media. The type of content should also be decided upon.

All these, however, depend on your specific audience and their niche. What may bring me exposure may not do so for you. But here are some pointers that may help.

  • Images make a perfect option. If you look at the social media pages, you’ll see images covering most of the space.

Why is that?

With images, you get more likes, clicks, views etc., than any other post category.

  • Photos, videos, and images get the maximum response in all the major social media platforms.
  • Make sure you pick out a staple update from the images, quotes, text updates, reshares and links which will take up a major portion of your shares and for every four of the staple updates publish a post of another variety. This will help your audience know beforehand what they can expect. This also paves way for better sharing of a particular post and helps you experiment on your approach.
  • There are several effective tools that aid in showing you the right time of the day when your posts will be viewed by your target audience. The tools assess this by studying your followers and post history, and determine the best sharing time.

5. Put together the Ideal Team

From what I’ve seen collaborative work can bring about a better output than working at it single-handedly.

Since social media impacts all aspects of the blog, you need to form a cross functional team, so you create and manage the strategy optimally.

Share your results and do a brainstorming session to re-evaluate and tweak the strategy, so you improve the overall plan completely.

Leverage the other fields involved in your business like sales and customer service teams, so the best ideas are known and put to the right use.

The advantage you get with a virtual team is the flexibility and power of highly talented professionals in all the related fields from creative designers to copywriters, developers, and strategists.

When you build a team of experts, it becomes easy to streamline and get the best out of them and see the results you’d aimed at.

6. Create the Perfect Content

To grasp the skill of posting the perfect content there are a few parts that should be taken care of.

If you want to grab the attention of readers, you’ve to make the first few lines interesting enough, so they get hooked and start reading the entire article. As the saying goes the first impression is the best impression.

The headline should appeal to the target audience and the images should connect as well. The sub-heading should entice readers with the promise of giving them the solution they’re searching for.

When you tweet quotes, it gets immediate attention and also increases the traffic in the social media sites.

Your content should promise guaranteed results and give users what they are searching for. Making an emotional connection with the reader is essential for your content to reach its objective.

To realize the loopholes that encircle your content, you can read this post by Mi Muba on “Do you know how you are dumping your each blog post?”

Visuals should be created in conformation to the sizes fit for social media posting. There are tools with pre-built readymade templates that I’ve found quite useful, which can resize the images as needed.

The text should be tailored for your audience with fresh language and a personal and appreciative approach.

7. Learn from Competitors

Though this can work both ways, I think it is the best way to beat the competition and stay in the race.

Learning from your competitors will help you focus on the right social media campaign and know about the ways you can go about for engaging your audience and sustaining them. This will help in strengthening the social media strategy you have in place.

Focus on the social media platforms that your competitors have dominant presence in. If you find that your competitor is not present in a particular platform, then it indicates that it is not the right platform for your business or that you can create a special audience with a very little competition to contend with.

The extent of the social media customers of your competitor will help you know how you can attract more customers and also show you ways to grow your business more.

Right from the profile and cover creation to the content and design, analyzing each and every aspect of your competitors’ blogs will give you all you need to know about how to create a successful blog. And you can also get an idea on how to design differently and what features to avoid.

8. Track Progress

I don’t think tracking is a much looked forward to task by anyone including me. It takes time and is also terribly tedious. But it is necessary. You need to spend only a couple of hours every month on it.

Allot a particular time in a month to go over the metrics, which are considered vital for your blog.

Pick out the most significant factors to concentrate on, like the posts, increase in the followers, page views, impressions, shares or likes, clicks to your product or site, etc.

When you look closely on each of the factors and how they compare with your competitors, you can know where you stand and how much you need to improve.

Another way you can achieve this task, if you’re pressed for time, is investing in software to track the data. There are free analytics tools like Hootsuite, Google Analytics etc., that do the job for you.

You get to re-focus on the right aspects that need more attention with these analytics. If you find some of your posts getting more attention, follow that pattern more diligently.

Titles that show advice with numbers for instance may be received well. If so, you can increase such posts more.

9. Choose Your Automation with Care

Though technology is here to make life easier, too much dependence on it can take out the humane touch or should I say originality that is necessary for the success of your social media plan.

But the fact is I’ve benefited more from the automation tools than I’d imagined. When you have very little time to oversee things, shuttling between your offline and online tasks, it helps to have support from such a quarter.

But don’t fall for the automation tools totally and risk your presence in the social media. Since social media is a highly interactive field, you need to show your readers that they’re interacting with a real person.

While it is allowed to schedule your posts, fill the social media content before you go on a vacation and find out the best time when your posts will reach their target audience. This is because there are some things that you should avoid from letting the automation to take over.

Even if you resort to the automation, remember to supervise the automated work like reading the articles and scheduled messages and give each message the treatment it needs instead of doing the same changes uniformly on all, which may backfire intolerably.

Social media pyramind of engagement activities

10. Engage the Audience

When you start implementing your social media plan, make sure you add in the updates regularly and engage your audience well. Many bloggers find it difficult to engage the audience with social media.

But it need not be a difficult task. Here are some of the affordable and dynamic ways I’ve used and found very effective.

  • To build a powerful community consisting of loyal audience, you need to talk to your existing audience, build a rapport with the potential audience, and link them all.
  • The huge traffic that social networks see can be used to gain information of your current and future services or products by the news, spending pattern, dialogue, and the feedback that is done on the social media.
  • You can improve your customer service incredibly by using the social media platform, which is an ideal point of contact and also serves as a window for displaying the standards you offer.
  • You can launch a forum, poll or any other service easily, without spending much with the social media.
  • Transparency works better here than in any other format. Readers can voice their disapproval or complaints instantly and get an immediate response, making social media a great way to build credibility.

Conclusion

I’ve seen many blogs out there that fail at using social media the right way. They give all kinds of plausible excuses, like the tactics they employ aren’t working or not effective.

But what they lack in reality is not planning their social media presence the right way. When your objectives are clear and you plan the way to achieve them in a systematic way, the chances of your tactics failing are slim.

The goals you set should be the core of your strategy. Integrating the strategy with the overall marketing plan you have for your service or product will give it more credibility and effectiveness.

So what you need to do is try hard and persevere. Determination to continue with your efforts and learning from each and every experience will help you move ahead and taste victory.

Remember it need not always be a path full of thorns. Enjoy your journey!

  1. Hi Nisha madam,

I like the way you choose the points in order. And the thing about automation, w should be careful while using automation as social media networks are filtering out automated posts and prioritizing the manual posts these days. So I prefer manual posting but one-click-to-all method.

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. Hello Sasidhar,

You should not be totally depend on automation tool. And try to use both automation tool as well as manual postings. Automation tools are very helpful for scheduling post for later and posting on best time with your audiences. It can save lot of your time too. you should try once and let me know what you experience with it.

Thanks for stopping by and share your thoughts with us.

      Have a great day ahead!

      1. Yes Madam,

I totally agree with you. Automation tools are very helpful in scheduling posts. I have used it earlier.

        Thank you for clarifying!

  2. Hi Nisha,

Great post here on Harleena’s blog. Congrats on winning the guest post as well.

As I read through points 1, 2 & 3, I was thinking to myself, maybe I need to re-analyze where my target audience frequents often. Right now I’m on the major platforms, but surely every audience hangs out in one location more than the other, correct?

So that’s something I have to look into.

Point #7 is good too. When it comes to social media, like Twitter, I’m looking at some of my competitors and seeing how they post, what they post, and how often they share content. Because what I use to do on Twitter is just post content and shares, but recently I started asking questions and trying to get participation and engagement.

This is really something I’m going to focus more attention on. Thanks for this great post and thanks Harleena for having her on.

Hope you both have a great weekend.

    – Andrew

    1. Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your kind words. Sounds good that you liked this post and finding useful for you.

Knowing and researching about the target audience is a primary step for social media marketing. Good to see that you are researching the tweeting strategy and doing quite good with twitter. Yes, asking question and engaging is better option to attract some more people. audiences.

I will look forward to see your progress with these plans. Thanks you so much for coming by and sharing your wonderful feedback with us.

      Have an awesome day ahead!

  3. These are some great social media strategies. One thing that has helped me move in the right direction with Social Media is to try and get better at one or two social media platforms instead of focusing on all of them at one time.

It is so tempting because there seem to be so many social media platforms out there these days. I initially struggled with my posting strategy as well but I think I have finally come up with a strategy that is sustainable and works for me. I like your viewpoint on images and believe also they truly help with engagement.

You are so correct about having good content. We can do so many things on our blogs but if the content is not good we are spinning our wheels and it does not matter what type of strategy you implement you will not be successful with poor content.

Tracking my progress is definitely a weak area for me. I definitely will take your advice in this area as I need to use an automated tool to track my progress so I can see what is working and what is not so I can make adjustments. Thank you so much for sharing.

    1. Hi Nathaniel,

Sounds great that you found this post helpful for you. Yes, instead of focusing on all social network, engaging ourself with 2 or 3 is better choice. It can save some time too.

Yes, images are great way to grab more audiences because, some time people like to see more than reading.

Quality content should always be prior thing to consider in our blog/website and at social platform as well. Just you have to make sure about the quality content when creating the social media plan.

Tracking your progress is bit hard. Social media tools can help a lot with tracking your progress. You must try it.

Thanks for the wonderful comment. I really appreciate it.

      Have a nice day!

  4. very informative and nicely written.

Those were the days when people had to work on seo part a lot but today social media has taken over drastically.

    1. Hello Shweta,

      Thanks for your kind words.

Yes, I am agree with you that currently, SMO is more popular and easy than SEO. Even, I am not doing more SEO of my blog than SMO. I usually spends more time at social media platforms.

Thanks again for coming by here. Have a nice day ahead!

Like you said, one needs to first learn about their target audience, on which social media sites they hang out, the best time to reach them, and the type of content they love consuming.

You’ve done a great job with the post and this will help many people get rolling in the right direction on social media.

    Have a great week ahead.

  9. Hi Nisha,

    This was an excellent post!

The thing that really stood out to me was tip 2) Study various social networks.

This seems simple but I think it is an important topic that is over looked. I feel that way because you see so many of the wrong things on some platforms.

I can only think that they just haven’t spent the necessary time learning the best way to use that particular platform.

They are all not created equal and shouldn’t be used as such.

Have a great week Nisha and Harleena!

    1. Hi Steven,

  10. Hi Nisha,

Great to see you here on AHA Now! You have covered so much in this post that it can be a handbook! I absolutely loved the detailed information you have given.

You cannot be a blogger without a social media presence! It goes hand in hand. And yes, one must have a plan using social media just as we use our blogs. We cannot just throw things out there randomly.

We need persistence and engagement both on our blogs as well as social media.

I like to put my full focus on two social media platforms and engage with people each and every day by liking and commenting. Also on my Facebook page I do use a strategy with CTA’s to have people join in and comment. I ask a question, share an inspirational quote, Do a “this or that” ex: Do you like dogs or cats, and something practical. I do this on an ongoing basis every day and then every 10th day or so I give the CTA to click the app on the side which is my product.

It’s all about engagement and I love doing it.

    Have a great week!

    -Donna

      Have an amazing week ahead!

  12. Hey Nisha,

When I first started leveraging social media, I had no clue of what to do and how to plan it LOL… I got on about 5 years ago, but really didn’t start using it for my blog until a year later.

But it’s definitely important to come up with a plan on how you’re going to use social media to your advantage. I think the first thing is to figure out who your quality audience is. This goes along with point 3 that you made. When I started, I was trying to connect with anyone and everyone that had a home business, specifically network marketing which I was involved in at the time. Soon I found out that I needed to be even more specific on who my target audience is and how we can both benefit each other.

Also, each platform is a bit different. I find that Facebook is a lot more social than Google+. They all have their own “personality” and i really didn’t realize this until I read “Jab, Jab, Jab, right hook”. So yes each site needs to be studied so that you know how to come across.

Thanks Nisha for sharing this! This was a great read and I thank Harleena for having you here! Have a great week!

I found your post on kingged.com

    1. Hi Sherman,

It happens. Even, I was not focusing much on social media things. After reading so many blogs on the power of social media, I thought to start with. With using social media, I could have seen lot of improvement on my blog.

Then, after some time I realize I should come up with a plan of using social media and I started doing the same. It was really awesome experience with using proper social media plans.

You are so right here that we need to study each social media platform and understand our target audience. This is only the main part of this social media plan.

Thanks you so much for stopping by and sharing your wonderful thoughts with us. Have a great week ahead!

Nowadays It is very important to interact with others online. If someone comments on your post, respond. Now Social media is more than just posting status updates. It’s creating engagement, a community and a chance for you to promote your business and informative post with others.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful post with us.

    Regards,
    Minakshi Srivastava

    1. Dear Minakshi,

I am glad that you liked the post. Other than the social media hype (positive hype of course), you need to check which one works in your favor. You just cannot spend time on all of them.

You need to judge which social media site helps you the most towards reaching your customers, thereby addressing your goals aptly.

More than just engagement, you need to learn new tricks and experiment those in your side.

Thank you again for your nice words.

      Yours,
      Nisha

  14. Hi Nisha & Harleena,

Outstanding post! That is hard too beat. I’m so glad to see you at Harleena’s.

Social Media doesn’t take a rocket science to understand how it works but it sure is time consuming. Each social media is different and the time frame is different too depending on what & when your fans or connections are going to be there.

Harleena, I tried to implement your strategy on Google+. I joined hundreds of blogging and marketing communities, thinking I will post my article each week with all hundreds of them, but I only got a chance to do it once. Man, that is definitely time consuming! How do you surmount doing this each time? You must be Super Woman! LOL

Oh how I wish I could have a Forum of my own someday. But I can hardly breath with all of these projects unfinished. I know running a Forum isn’t easy but in the end it’s all better. Social Media can be volatile. For all I know they can be here and gone tomorrow. At least with the Forum, no one can take that away from you, it’s your own community.

As far as using automation for social media, my Buffer doesn’t work lately. I tried scheduling my posts there and it wouldn’t do it, it is very temperamental. And I’m not a Hootesuite fan either, they’re too confusing. So, I use Friends+Me instead in all of my reshare postings.

One of the things I haven’t done still is to keep reposting the same article 2-3x more just in case other folks have missed or haven’t seen your latest post. I keep forgetting to do this. I’ve read this is one of the greatest strategy some probloggers use to get that hundreds shares.

Anyway, Nisha, glad to be acquainted with you. And seeing you here makes me happy. I feel like I’ve known you more. So yeah this engagement is the beauty in the world of blogosphere. Tottalooh…until later…

    Have a nice week!

    Cheers,
    Angela

    1. Hey Angela,

Thanks for your sweet words and being so kind. I even felt like we knew each other since long, very very long indeed. 🙂

To accomplish anything great, time spending is must. Someone has truly said, there is no shortcut to success. But yes, you can always mend or mod your ways. But I believe the work done in either of the processes remains same. haha. That is funny part of life. Nothing comes for free.

I will urge people to not get lured by the money factor the blogosphere holds but to follow their passion path.

Resharing your post is usually forgotten! Guess why? Oh, that is a tedious job for many. But you need to make it a habit.

I am waiting to converse with you directly about other related things.

Till then, have a nice time Dear.

      Yours,

      Nisha

Social media marketing is so important for blogging success. It helps is build a community around our blogs, drives traffic and helps us secure new clients. Bloggers can’t afford to ignore this aspect of online branding if they are serious about their blogs.

    1. Hi Kumar,

Very thanks for your kind words towards this post.

Yes, Social media marketing is best resource to get good success in blogging. With the help of social media, we can make our blog more viral, more powerful, more engaging and etc.

Just we have to keep in mind that ” Getting your content right is critical otherwise you won’t get any results from your social media effort.”

Thanks for stopping by here and share your valuable feedback with us. I really appreciate your comment here.

      Have a nice day ahead!

  17. Nisha informative post…

I was referring to the social media calendar I had set for my blog with each of your pointers.

What you said is 100% true.

Automation is one thing we could leverage as much as possible . It helps to increase the user engagements too without spending alot of time in social media profiles.

    1. Hi Sangeetha,

Glad to meet you here and thanks for your feedback.

It’s good to hear that you already prepared your social media calendar and it’s similar to my plan. Great, keep it up.

Yes, automation social media tool is good for user engagement and for time saving purpose. But, we shouldn’t be totally depend on automation tool. It can be make bad impact on our social presence.

Thanks again for stopping by. Have a wonderful rest of the week.

  18. Hey Nisha,

First, I would like to congratulate you on winning the Aha!NOW guest post giveaway 🙂 It’s so nice reading from you on Harleena’s blog.

Social media, do doubt works like fire, in fact it’s the one place where you can easily sell yourself and that of your blog. Before now we depend heavily on Google to get the word out there, but today once you have a brand and you have the right people to share with, reaching the peak of your blogging success becomes an easy thing.

Again, automation is another thing we as bloggers should leverage. The truth is that we can’t be sitting in front of our PC all the time, there will be time for travel, work, family and others, so keeping some automated will help get the work done. Care also should be taken so as not to over do this. People still need to have a feel of you especially if you as a person is your brand!

Thanks Nisha for putting up this awesome post. And to Harleena, thanks for letting Nisha share in your world 🙂

You both have a wonderful day!

    ~Jackson

    1. Hi Jackson,

Thanks you so much for your kind words.

Yes, very true. Social media is very easy and fast way to grow our networks, readers and customers. With social media, we can promote well and build our brand quickly. Just, we have to do the quality work. Without having a quality, we can’t get any results from our social media effort. So, better is to keep the quality rather than wasting a time.

You are so right, automation helps us to maintain our work when we are not at the front of our system. We can automate all our postings and even can choose the best time to post.

Thank you very much again for coming by here ans sharing your thoughts with us.

Enjoy your rest of the week!

  19. Hi Harleena/Nisha,

It is right to have social media influence. Yes, wielding the influence is social media can make a difference in social media campaign. The truth remains that many fail in social media because they adopt similar strategy in all platforms.

I have always believed that to make progress with social media, the marketer needs to set goals, use the right platform, apply the right automation and engage rightly. Luckily, these have been re-echoed in this article.

Nevertheless, success in social media escape many marketers because they follow too many opinions of so called “social media gurus”. It is critical to have a clear plan and objective and concentrate on what readily provides relevance.

Your points are indeed spot-on and I am sure the post is worth bookmarking to build social media influence!

I found this awesome article in kingged.com where I have left the above comment.

    1. Hi Sunday,

This post including extreme details, along with a timeline and information on how your content marketing plan will be revised based on your findings.

Adding the same content on every network is not a good plan. Your audience didn’t come to see an archive of tweets on another channel, that isn’t what those media platform are meant for.

With all of the information out there about social media, it is tough to know what to pay attention to and what to take with a grain of salt. Getting your content right is critical otherwise you won’t get any results from your social media effort.

Thanks you so much for stopping by and sharing your wonderful comment. I really appreciate it.

      Have a nice day!

  20. Hi, Nisha and Harleena,

Excellent article, Nisha, and thank you for the kind mention of my article in your post. I really appreciate it.

Yes, in the last year or so social media has played a much bigger role in marketing in general.

You are spot on when you mention influence because when you’re an authority blogger you have influence and will become like a magnet.

Objectives are definitely a place to start, and I think you’re information is excellent in the advice you give, especially where you say we should develop a social media plan.

Your tip number two is great, and I need to put more effort in this and definitely will in near future when my product is completed and other projects that are high priority are done.

I’m glad you say the time devoted to the social network should be a factor to consider because I’ve seen way too many marketers fritter away the hours on social media without any return on investment which is a waste of time.

When considering posting strategy, I use Buffer app and really like it. It frees me up to be able to load things in there and have them post at certain increments.

Tracking is a lot easier with Google URL Builder because you can see exactly what keywords are being clicked on inside Google Analytics, and it really helps to know the engagement.

I will make social media more a priority in upcoming months.

Thanks for sharing, Nisha – great article, and I’m sharing on Twitter and Google plus.

Hope you have a wonderful day,
    – Carol 🙂

    1. Dear Carol,

Thank you for your inputs and yes, a lot more thanks for tweeting my post.

I just reminded people of basics but yes in a better way. People are so engrossed in this attractive world that sometimes they tend to ignore basics. So for those, this post is spot-on.

I liked your use of app and url builder. Those things definitely save you time but Dear, please be sure they do not make you lethargic. 🙂

Yes, you need to spend some time monitoring things on your own. That way you always stay connected. Unless you work your brain out yourself, new ideas won’t hit you. I believe apps do not have a brain. 🙂

Social media side is best utilized when you are all complete with basic works. I know you are quite smart to do this in style.

Thanks for your time and compliments Dear.

      Yours,

      Nisha

  21. Hi Nisha

Congratulations on winning the Aha!NOW guest post giveaway! Nice to see a post from you in the guest blogger forum. I found your post very informative and worthy of sharing. My plan is really very simple with my main focus being on engaging readers with quality content. Social media platforms work well and you have done a great job in explaining it.

Thanks for sharing and do have a great day/weekend 🙂

    1. Hi Yvonne,

Thanks for your kind words and sharing your thoughts here.

Engaging with readers/followers is a must thing on social media marketing. Social media is all about quality and without the quality content, it is not possible to achieve your goals/success. So, better to keep quality rather than wasting time with low quality content.

Thanks again for coming by here. Have a wonderful day!

  22. Hi Nisha
This is very informative and I have learned a lot about Social media.
Thank you so much to share with us.

  23. Hi Nisha

This is very informative and I have learned a lot about Social media. You right that we need a plan when entering the Social Media world. You also state that we need to study the different Social Media platforms to effectively use them for our audience and this is true because you can’t just post the same format for all Social platforms.

Congrats again on winning the guest post give away. This post is awesome. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Ikechi,

Thanks for sharing your feedback here. I am so glad that you learned something from this post.

Social media can enhance everything we do, we just have to keep engaged with our audience. Yes reaching your target customer and finding the proper social media platforms are the most important factors in the better social media plan. People love to read variations. So, if we have same fan/follower in each network then they should expect to read some variations by us.

Thanks again for your kind words and stopping by here. Have a good day!

  24. Hi Nisha,
Thanks a lot for a wonderful post!
I really enjoyed reading your post and it has some awesome tips to increase social media engagement. I wish I read this post a couple of years before. In the past years, I was not very regular on social media and focused on some channels at certain periods of time vs others at other times. In other words, I posted when I felt like it. While this created me a bit of traction, it did not create any significant mileage in social media. While all tips you mentioned are important, for myself #1, #2 and #4 stand out as the most important first steps. Knowing the objectives for the blog is absolutely key. I also think that what you mentioned about the differences in the different platforms is an important thing to consider because not everyone loves the way every platform works. For example, the reasons I love google plus are very different from the ones that I like twitter and so on.

I think that #4 or posting strategy is very important to build a presence on social media. After all, every blogger is representing their unique brand and presenting that to the world. The type of content they post needs to be pre-addressed since a mish-mash of content simply confuses the audience. Before posting, I usually ask myself: Is this something that I passionately believe in? or Is this something that is adding value to my niche and that I am feeling great enthusiasm for? Also, the time and the amount of posting is very important as you mention. I like the idea that every blogger needs to tailor the social media strategy to fit their specific niche and their specific needs.

Finally, I totally agree that social media is social. it is very important to connect and talk to people and express genuine interest in their interests and attempt to bring value to their life.

    Thanks!
    Harish

    1. Hi Harish,

      Thanks for your kind words.

I am so glad to read that you found this post very useful for you. Previously, I was also not focusing much on social media marketing. Thanks to some wonderful bloggers who made me learn these secrets of social media success and better plan to manage it well.

I am just sharing what I learned yet and experienced. Just you have to make sure about the quality content when creating the social media plan. Knowing and researching about the target audience is a primary step for social media marketing.

Rather than wasting time with all social networks, just focus on 2 or 3 which can save lot of time as well as help to maintain the quality. You’re so right here that before posting any matter on social network, we should ask our self first. It can add more value to your brand and keep engaging.

Yes, posting on a right time can give you more engagement. It can help you save time on social media. Get better results with this plan and it makes it all fun.

Enjoy your rest of the week.

  25. Hello Nisha and welcome to Harleena’s blog.
Social media is the new seo (according to most people). But you could use the social media more effectively, then ones blogging journey will go smooth.

Studying your social network before engaging is the best option. Like I have a tool that tells me when my followers are most active on twitter and d harsh tag trending on my category, and another that automates my post at the right time 🙂

Social media is best when you know the hook of it and you have explained it well for those who still don’t know how to utilize it.

Thanks for dropping such post, do have a beautiful weekend both of you.

    1. Hi Babanature,

Loved to see you here. Social media is not the new SEO in blogging/internet marketing industry but, you can say it is more trendy and popular now.

Yes, researching should always be a prior thing in social media. Great to hear that you found some useful tool for twitter to track your goals and followers. Tweeting at the right time is must to grab more visitors/followers.

Right, social media is great resource to get huge success if we choose the right path.

Thanks for dropping the wonderful comment. Have a lovely day ahead!

  26. Hi Nisha,

Awesome post. I have added it to pocket so I can read it again, later. I don’t have a complex plan, it’s mostly about engaging with “fans” and tracking progress looking at how many people are viewing our content. That’s about it. We’ve seen some great results, but it’s a simple plan.

    1. Hi Jen-petter,

Nice to meet you here. Sounds good that you found it useful and saved in pocket to use later on.

Thanks for sharing your plan with us. Engaging with fans and tracking your progress is good plan. And this is included at my plan too.

Hope, this post will be useful for you.

Thanks again for coming by and sharing your views here. Have a nice day!

  27. Hi Nisha

Welcome to Harleena’s blog. It is your great achievement to be published at this one of the most popular blogs.

Maybe I am a little pessimistic but what I observed around is that more than 50% social media users just aim to do their self promotion and that also without any proper plan. They just want to highlight their performance, work or publication and want people swarm into it as if they are revealing the biggest secret of the world in their post.

Sharing your own post can never be your social media goal. It is actually a mean to achieve the bigger goal of bringing people to your blog and making them your loyal visitor. One can never achieve this target by just sharing his posts. He first needs to connect with the most relevant target audience of his blog, be quite friendly and supportive to them, win their trust and then finally bring them at his blog.

You pointed well that how easy it is to advise someone pick top 3 social media platforms to achieve his business goal. Who decide which ones are the top three. For a blog on amateur painting Pinterest could be the top most platform and for a blog on jobs Linkedin is the best one. So a blogger needs to pick the best one as per his own situation and his industry trends.

There is a big difference between target audience and the battalion of any army. Members of your target audience will never behave and respond in same way. So your message should be so generalized to influence all of them. But it must not be much generalized that it lose its own brand and be a purely non-commercial message of love and emotions.

Thanks a lot for sharing such a wonderful post on social plan and it really helps readers a lot to develop a viable plan with a perfect execution strategy.

    1. Hi Muba,
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, this is really a good achievement for me to be guest writer here.
Keep in mind that social media is a branding and visibility platform and thus needs to carry the right messaging and voice.
You are so true here. People used to do self promotion than others. They should follow some rules for better success. Self promoting is not a right choice always. When you share other’s post/status, they will definitely thankful to you and can share yours in return. Sharing is rule of great success.
It is impossible to be regular in every social network and be present everywhere. So, better option to pick two or three social media platforms and forge ahead.
The path-taking, which is the final step, will largely depend on the plan outlined in these steps. It will help you to determine whether you center your strategy on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, or any of the other main social media players. Facebook and twitter is working fine for me. And I love to spend my time here. You should definitely have a plan to measure the success of your investment.
You have stated right here that there is a big difference between target audience and battalion of army. You should find your target audiences on main social media sites and figure out how they communicate, with whom, and what sorts of messages reach them. Whatever else you do, make sure that you’re not engaging in a social media strategy without knowing how you’ll define success.
Here, I included detailed social media plan along with a timeline and information on how your content marketing plan will be revised based on your findings. Hope, this will be helpful for all.
Thanks you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us.
      Have a nice day ahead!

  28. Hello Nisha,

It’s nice to meet you. Thank you for such an informative post. You have really put together a great plan of action for anyone looking to increase their social media presence.

The two things I learned is that not all social media sites will be suitable for my blog and how to tailor my content to them. Once I corrected that I saw an increase in followers and even more engagement.

Great post Nisha! Have a wonderful day and weekend Harleena and Nisha.

    1. Hi Corina,
This is glad to meet you too. It is my pleasure to share my experiences here at aha-now the huge level blog.
This sounds good that you like this plan and learned something from here.
Yes, the most important factor is reaching your target customer and determining the proper social media platforms where these individuals are present. You should continue to evolve in how they use social media. Keep it up.
Thanks for stopping by here and sharing your wonderful feedback.
      Enjoy your weekend!

This is good to see you here and thanks for your kind wishes.

Starting at the ground flour and building up, here is my overview of how to create a social media marketing plan. Hope, this will help everyone else to boost their social media strategy.

This sounds very great that you found my tips useful for yourself and even started implementing on the same.
      Enjoy your weekend!

  30. Hi Nisha,

    Keep the engagement train going!

Be chatting frequently you will do social right, and youll find other bloggers to connect with.

I’m huge on asking questions these days; no better way to get people to chat, to connect and to foster bonds that lead to so much prospering for both parties.

Successful social is about being engaging, and persisting to carry on chats. I do this on twitter. I’ll keep the engagement train going by asking questions, by sharing answers, and by chatting with folks who like to engage.

Text only tweets rock, because they condition folks to move away from Link Blindness, to actually tune in to your chatty, engaging tweets, and you’ll make a ton of friends along the way.

    Thanks Nisha!

    Tweeting from Fiji.

    Ryan

    1. Hey Ryan,
I am very glad to see your comment at my guest post.
Very thanks for giving your kind suggestion and tips. This will be useful for me as well as the other readers here. Yes, chatting is great way to connect with bloggers and other marketers. But, I am not able to do so because of less time. I will surely going to use this trick whenever I will have some free time or I will make this my weekly routine to follow.
I use sometime facebook chatting but, never used twitter chats. I am very much agree with you that asking questions is better way to connect with top pro bloggers and sharing answers can help to engage with our readers and newbie marketers.
Yes, I have connected with many bloggers via tweeting and Facebook promotions.
Thanks again for the wonderful tip. Hope you are enjoying your weekend at Fiji.

  31. Hello Nisha,
Congrats on the lucrative guest post. 😀

Wonderful write up on social media a you have done a great job. This tips will help many businesses and bloggers to re-plan their social media strategy. Social media done unplanned is only good for a layman. If you are interested to gain from the social platforms you got to have a strong strategy or else you will be utilizing your resources the wrong way.

Choosing the right platform to speak always matters and again the “right” platform cannot be one according to you it has to be the one according to your potential customers.

As far as automation is considered over using it will make your audience feel like they are listening to robots than you. I would also like to say cross posing can save a lot of time but doesn’t look like you care your audience over the second platform so if one wants to leverage two or more social media platforms he/she should spent at least some time on both. 🙂

Have a great weekend..which I am sure you will surely have after this awesome post.

Thank you Harleena( @admin)madam, for making this post live and helping Nisha share her thoughts with us. 🙂

    1. Hi Swadhin,
      Thanks for your kind words.
This sounds great that you found this post helpful for many businesses and bloggers. This could inspire me to write more better plans in future. Social media is amazing resource to get huge brand success if we go on a right way.
You are so true, we have to choose right platform according to our potential customers. Our strategic plan needs to include information about how we’ll track progress to goals and what testing tactics we’ll use to determine if our content is really working.
The important thing to remember is that all of these social media tactics work together.
Remember to be consistent throughout your social media, but that doesn’t mean adding the same content on all channels. You should not depend totally on the automation tools. Create a plan to showcase the human side of your company.
Yes, I am enjoying my weekend but, little busy with my blog’s updating(design) work. Hope, you are enjoying your weekend too.

  32. Hi Madam Nisha,

Congratulations on winning the Aha-now guest post giveaway. Its actually nice seeing a post from you.

This is a compelling article, an informative one though which i recommend for every blogger and internet marketer. Of recent, the Social Media has turn out to be the most effective method of promoting a business.

Trying to be every where is one behaviour that can kill faster than one can ever imagine. One has to study the various Social Media platforms and identify the one which serves you right. I solidly agree with the illustration given by Larry Frank in his comment. Articles on Nigerian entertainment never makes wave on Linkedin unlike facebook which is the backbone of most. Nigerian entertainment bloggers.

One also needs to identify the target audience so you don’t waste your time channeling your business updates to persons who care aren’t interested in what you have to offer.

No doubt, all your points are well said, i enjoyed reading all of it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Thanks ma’am Harleena for giving ma’am Nisha the opportunity to share such an informative article

    1. Hi Joseph,
A very thanks for your kind wishes. Even, I loved to be guest writer here. This is a great opportunity for me to present myself throughout Aha!Now readers.
I am very glad that you found this article informative for you as well as for other blogger and internet marketer. As we all know Social Media has opened up a new advance feature for companies and individuals alike.
Yes, I agree we should focus on the right social network rather than being everywhere. You should choose the social networks that best fit your strategy and the goals you want to achieve on social media.
Social Media Optimization has some really great information about optimizing your social media efforts and finding the most opportune time to post.
Thanks for your wonderful feedback. I really appreciate your comment here.
      Have a wonderful weekend!

  33. Hi Nisha,
It’s good to see you here at Aha Now for a guest post.

There are different social media sites, it’s a must do to research and find which iks better for your business, surly not every business can be promoted on every social media, using linkedin as a case study, a Nigeria entertainment blog won’t sale on such place, unlike facebook where Nigeria entertainment blogs sale like crazy.

I always tell people, “your profile matters” so I take out a good time to complete and write a professional looking profile. Professional Profile is Client Attracting. Although it doesn’t just stop there, being social too is a suberb means too.

I agree with all you’ve said and they are all great ways to create a social media plan for every bloggers.

    Thanks for the BIG share..

    1. Hi Larry,
Thanks for your kind words. This is my pleasure to be here with you all.
You are so true that start determining your highest priority social channel which offers the best opportunity to connect with your audience. It’s time to establish your own social brand guidelines and social media personality. Creating a good social media plan for your brand is important to building strong relationships.
Flying blindly can be bit risky for your reputation, but also cause you more trouble than you can handle.
This is certainly true for the personality of your social media marketing efforts; your audience, your goals, and your metrics for reaching those goals will help inform the sort of social media face you put on your business.
Hope, these ten steps would be helpful for every bloggers.
      Thanks for stopping by here.
      Have a nice weekend!

Thanks for coming by and giving your valuable feedback here.
Wishing you and your family a very Happy and prosperous DIWALI.

  35. Hi Nisha, this is a great reference for any blogger. I think for me the key is finding the right social media to reach my target market. Facebook is definitely my ideal outlet. I also enjoy Twitter Pinterest which have both been not only fun but effective. Youtube is another platform that reaches people in such a personal way. I try to temper my time spent on each media though as it does cut in to my writing 🙂 Consistency is a big one which you mention at the top of this post. Thanks for this info!!

    1. Hi Lisa,
I am glad that you found it useful for bloggers. You are so right that while building your social media strategy, determine what your audience hopes to accomplish when they spend time in social channels. Your social media strategy would be to establish a strong presence on every social channel.
Determine the type of content that will work, and do some initial testing, it’s time to pull your tactics together into a content marketing plan. It’s an easy-to-follow strategy for making your content work.
You can create the most effective social media marketing plan using Facebook.
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts here. I really appreciate your feedback.
      Have a nice weekend!

  36. Hi Nisha,

Nice to see you here and congratulations for winning a guest post. You have done a wonderful job for newbies and persons like me who have no social media plan! Your tips are very informative for those who don’t pay any attention to approach social media in a systematic manner.

I have always felt that it is a time waster and if you have a limited time, you get confused as to where to be at a particular time and yes, it becomes quite difficult to be everywhere. I have never thought that a plan is needed for social media! Thanks for revealing such an important point, which you have put across in a very convincing manner. I am trying to chew all this information 🙂 Have a blessed weekend!

    1. Hi Balroop,
This is nice to meet you here. Thanks for your kind words.
You know, I recently read some webinar promoting social media services that said that businesses should expect to invest 32 hours a month for each social media profile.
You should startt out small and then build up progressively on the social media platforms that work best for you.
I’ve shared here a different parts of a social media marketing plan and personal experience behind what works on social media.
Find good examples on main social media sites and figure out how they communicate, with whom, and what sorts of messages reach them. Whatever else you do, make sure that you’re not engaging in a social media strategy without knowing how you’ll define success.
Thanks for stopping by and leaving your kind feedback.
      Have a wonderful weekend!

  37. Hi Nisha,

Well written and very informative post. Social media as its today is an integral part of our marketing…no doubt about that.

But care has to be taking very seriously so we don’t ge tempted trying to be everywhere. It could be overwhelming, also frustrating considering the amount of time needed to spend in these places.

Like you rightly pointed out, automation is good, but we shouldn’t make our marketing 100% dependant on this.

    Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Adeshokan,
Thanks for your kind words. I am glad that this is an informative post for you.
Social Media Optimization has some really great information about optimizing your social media efforts and finding the most opportune time to post.
As you build your social media strategy, determine what your audience hopes to accomplish when they spend time in social channels.
Keep in mind that social media is a branding and visibility platform and thus needs to carry the right messaging and voice.
Yes, I agree with you that we should not choose the automation every time. We should be active and regular to social media to target our customer and determining the proper social media platforms.
Thanks you very much for coming by here.
      Have a nice weekend!

  38. Hey Nisha and Harleena,

I am glad to see Nisha writing a guest post here.:)
Off course she knows the real value of quality content which she provides at her blog. So finally she got her giveaway.;)

You have mentioned some crucial points regrading social media and its use. As you have suggested that users should learn from their competitors which is very important. As we always hear that we should know the power of our enemies. Though here no one is an enemy but still its good to learn from others. You never know when will you get your right direction just having a glance at someone else.

I have noticed many users on Twitter who used to tweet like a robot which is not worthy to read. I mean who would like to follow someone whose tweets irritate us? People should have proper gap between their shares. There should be proper timing for sharing at any social network.

Analyzing your audience is the most important thing to do. As you may have noticed many users who provide details for “Horoscope” to business persons. I mean is it a joke for them? If people want to get high results from social media then they should know to whom they should demonstrate their content?

All the points you have mentioned above are worthy to follow. Bloggers should use social media to get more exposure to their blog.

Thanks for writing this informative article.

Hope you both are enjoying your day.:)

    ~Ravi

    1. Hi Ravi,
Thanks for your kind words towards me and my writing.
Your social media plan needs to include info about how you’ll track your goal and what testing tactics you’ll use to determine if your content is really working. This section should include a timeline and information on how your content marketing plan will be revised based on your findings.
Remember to be consistent throughout your social media plan, but that doesn’t mean adding the same content on all channels. Your audience didn’t come to see an archive of tweets on another channel, that isn’t what those media platform are meant for.
You can create the most effective social media marketing plan using Facebook.
It is impossible to go in all directions and cover everything, so pick one or two social media platforms and go ahead. You should start determining whether you center your strategy on Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, or any of the other main social media players.
This is certainly true for the personality of your social media marketing efforts; your audience, your goals, and your metrics for reaching those goals will help inform the sort of social media face you put on your business.
I hope these ten steps help all new marketers to get started with building the perfect content marketing plans for their clients! As everybody knows Social Media has opened up a new world of opportunities for companies and individuals alike.
Thanks for stopping by here. I really appreciate your wonderful comment over here.
      Have a lovely weekend!

  39. Hi Nisha,

Congratulations on winning Harleena’s Guest Post Giveaway and happy Diwali!

You’re right, social media can be a very effective tool to help us get the word out. The best part about it is that it’s free! But too many people take it for granted because they’re not paying for the privilege of posting. By paying more attention to their use of social media they can use it more effectively.

You’re right about using a team for your social media. No matter how many followers you have, you can spread your message more broadly by utilizing a team. Triberr is a great example of how bloggers can for a team to share more broadly on social media.

    1. Hi Carolyn,
This is great to see here and thanks for your kind wishes.
Social media can support and enhance everything you do, you just have to keep the two connected. Without the connection, you are wasting the power of cross marketing and branding.
Your approach to social media marketing strategy will require you to decide whether your business will engage in social media actively or passively, informally or formally, among other factors.
You are right, Triberr is a good tool to spread with each other. I am using it and well satisfied too.
Thanks Carolyn for stop by here and share your thoughts.
      Have a nice weekend ahead!

  40. I agree, we need to engage with all fans to create that relationship that will last.
Thanks for all tips Nisha. Hope to see you often here!

    1. Hi Daniel,
We have to be as realistic as possible about who, what, and how much time you can spend on your social media strategy. Timing is critical for engagement and a successful social media strategy.
I do spend a bit of time analyzing feedback, checking how things work for me, working on content strategy and revising the content I put on social media.
Thanks for your comment. Have a good day ahead!

  41. Hi Nisha,

    Excellent to see you here!

I think you have some seriously excellent point. You got to study the each social media platform if you want to be successful.

Always remember that no two platforms work the same!

Top notch and thanks for sharing once again!
    ~Reginald

    1. Hi Reginald,
This is my pleasure to be here.
Very true, no two social media audiences are alike, there’s varying information available about the best days and times for optimum engagement and performance.
For each channel you choose to engage in, take an in-depth look at similar companies that you admire for their social strength. You need to think how social media can help you.
Thanks for stopping by here. I really appreciate your comment.
      Have a wonderful day!

  42. This post is super duper helpful. I’ll raise my hand to the fact that I’m one of those people who are very haphazard when it comes to Social Media. I post my blog consistently, other than that, It’s random.

I love the idea of starting with a goal — a lot of online strategy comes down to having a goal and then planning from there.

In addition to that, I want to create a set schedule for when I get online and what I do when I’m online. Oftentimes, I find myself doing a lot of things that are not beneficial — so I really need to get strategic.

Thanks for this article. It’s definitely the kick in the butt that I needed!!

    1. Hello Jennifer,
I am very glad that it is very helpful for you. This sounds very bad that you are sloppy with the social media things.
You can create the planning calendar which gives you a visual representation of your social media posts in a week or for a month. This will guide you through planning and executing a successful social media strategy.
The most important factor is to reaching out your target customer and determining the proper social media platforms where these individuals are present.
Thanks for coming by over here and sharing your views with us. I really appreciate your feedback here.
      Thanks
      Nisha

  43. Thank you Nisha for such straightforward and clean advice. I’ve been at this social media thing for a while now, and it never hurts to have a reminder of how to best clean and tighten my social media streams. I think when you first begin, there’s a tendency to have much wider streams, but the busier you get, the more you have to streamline.

I am in need of doing so, and this makes it feel so much more manageable.

    1. Dear Leigh,

Yes, what you call streamlining, for me it is setting a standard for yourself.
When one gets busy, he or she of course has to weigh his or her priorities towards the time spending act.

Your self-confidence comes to the fore here, thereby helping you make concrete decisions towards better management of your online ventures.

      Best Regards,
      Nisha

  44. Hey Nisha,

Nice to see you here at Aha Now and nice post!

A few of the things that have helped me on social media is taking time to write a good profile. I think the more info you can give in your profile that helps your potential follower identify with you the better. Of course no social media platform is worthwhile if you don’t engage regularly. That can be the hard part but there are so many great tools to help you.

Of course having a plan of how to use social media and engage people is always a great start. Different social media sites engage differently and are designed for different purposes so researching that and finding out what platform is best for your business is a big step in the right direction.

Thanks Nisha for another great post.

    Liz

    1. Hi Liz,

      Thank you for your compliments.

What I think building your profile to help your followers or seekers comes at a very later scene. You need to define your goal to yourself first. Yes, I repeat yourself first! Because, if you are not convinced with your own goals, it will be a mundane effort to advertise yourself to others. No hard you try, no matter how skilled you are, you will always lack that appeal if you are unsure about your own objective.

Once it is defined, you can educate your readers about your services or product offered. It is then social media marketing gives a green signal to you for a bigger picture.

      Best Regards,
      Nisha

  45. Great post!

One commonality I’ve heard from small business owners and entrepreneur is that their target market is everyone. Yikes! How can “everyone” be your target market? If you’re a life coach, are you coaching small children too? Probably not.

It’s also myth that you have to be on every social network available to you. If you’re audience isn’t on Twitter, why spend time on the social network? Devote your time, energy and funds to Facebook or Google Plus.

Please take the time to figure out your target market. It will save you time and headaches in the long run.

    1. Dear Amandah,

I am glad you liked the post. Everything has a beginning and this is why small scale businesses and entrepreneurs target the entire mass instead of adopting fastidious roots.

As they get a strong foothold, they may be refining their target for sure. But then it all depends on a lot of factors. Sometimes they get so corrupted of situations that they tend to forget their own objectives.

But yes, I agree that there are some serious business persons who plan their strategy really well, before entering into digital marketing.

The trick lies with doing an in-depth research and gather resources (bonds with experts and other skilled people)which eventually allocates you that vision to refine your objective or view it in a better way.

Like you said, one has to be focused towards a specific objective in place of practicing generosity with the kind of upshots he gets.

      Best Regards,
      Nisha

This is a wonderful guest post for bloggers and Internet marketers. One cannot think of existing on the web without the social media. But then as you rightly point out that the social media isn’t really effective if you do not use it in the proper way. I totally agree with you that a social media plan is very necessary.

I’m sure most of the successful bloggers are already following the social media strategy that you’ve explained in this post, and this is something that the newbie bloggers should try to adopt and implement.
