With these productivity hacks, your presence as a freelance writer on the social media will never be the same.

1. Map Out a Strategy

The Social media is a place that needs a lot of plans to succeed.

As a freelance writer, you need to map out a strategy that will fit what you offer. Take, for instance, you are a Tech specialist; you should map out strategies in this line.

Test your Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, and Threat. Your strategy should include when you want to post, the platforms you want to use, and the groups you want to follow, etc.

With a good strategy in place, you will able to promote your work, land well-paying clients, and your productivity will soar higher.

2. Figure Out Who You Want to Follow

The greatest mistake you can make as a freelance writer on the social media is not following the right set of people.

You should not follow everybody, but follow only those that matter to your business. Following the right set of people means identifying influencers in your niche, whom could aid your career.

It involves checking out groups on the various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram and so on, where fellow freelance writers hang out and socialize and join them too.

Likewise, you should follow writing blogs/websites that share what you do often and motivate you to become better at it too.

3. Build One-to-One Relationship

Relationship matters. In fact, social media relationships matter to you as a freelance writer. In building a relationship, you should:

> Reveal your identity: As a freelance writer, you should display your profile picture on your platforms. This gives potential clients a sense that you are human, and not a robot.

> Be friendly: In your interactions with fellow users, you should be friendly with them and treat them in a likable manner (like, and share their comments). It goes a long way to making your relationship grow.

As a freelance writer, the relationships you build matters and aid your productivity.

4. Be Smart

Many discussions hold on the social media platforms daily.

As a freelance writer, content matters a lot to you. (You need this to post regularly on your blog if you have one, and also write quality content for your clients always).

So, the social media platforms offer a great avenue to get ideas for your content. This does not mean you are plagiarizing their work or been lazy to research. Rather it saves you a lot of time, and makes your contents reader-friendly, and trending.

Most discussions on the social media platforms are avenues for the freelance writer to tap in. Be smart, and your productivity will soar higher than you have ever imagined.

5. Re-Use Contents

Have you ever come across a content that has Thousands of likes and shares on Facebook and Instagram? If you have, then that’s an untapped goldmine for a freelance writer.

Contents like this can be re-used to fit in what you want you to intend to write for your clients or as a guest post. It’s through these social media platforms that the level of engagement of a particular post can be measured.

After all, you can’t compare a post with a thousand likes, with that with just ten likes. The same way a post that got shared by users multiple number of times can’t be compared with that of fewer shares.

While using the social media as a freelance writer, take a look at some of these popular posts, re-use the contents for your purpose, and see the results you will get.

6. Plan Your Time

It’s said: “He who fails to plan, plans to fail.” The recipe for failure on the social media is not planning your time.

To stay productive, you must plan your time well. Evaluate the various social media platforms, and the time and activities you want to carry out on each. Do not engage yourself in unnecessary chats, comments and hang-outs that will not aid your productivity.

Remember you only have 24 hours in a day to complete your assignments. Make the best use of them.

7. Be Disciplined

Imagine yourself in a situation, whereby you have a guest post to send to a top blog in your niche, the deadline for a client’s work is knocking at the door, and you still want to reach out to more clients.

Then suddenly an old buddy of yours got in touch with you via one of the social media platforms. What do you do?

The truth is that most people will be distracted and would have totally forgotten the barrage of tasks at hand. As a freelance writer, your productivity on the social media is directly proportional to your discipline.

If you are not disciplined, you will not be productive. Always be disciplined, know when to socialize, comment, reach out to more clients, and perform your various tasks. With discipline, you will be productive.

8. Be Selective

Many freelance writers make the mistake of wanting to belong to all social media platforms they can find out there. This is not only unproductive but time-consuming.

There are lots of social media platforms in the world today, and you can’t be everywhere at the same time. So, you should choose and use the right social media platform unique to you and productive for your business.

When you streamline the platforms you sign up to, it will go a long way to aid your productivity.

9. Schedule and Monitor Updates

No matter how you try, it will be difficult to catch up with the discussions on the various platforms and monitor them, combined with your freelance writing activities.

To make things easier, you need to schedule and monitor updates with the necessary tools. Some of these tools such as Hootsuite enable you to share various updates across many platforms at different times.

All you need to do is to schedule the updates, and everything will move on fine. You should monitor the updates, by checking out who is following you, who liked your page, the number of views your profile has garnered and lots more.

This helps to keep you on track as you are sure of the impacts your activities on the social media is having.

10. Be Patient

This cannot be over-emphasized. As a freelance writer, you should never be in haste to achieve results.

Results will come, though it takes time, hard-work and dedication. In fact, sometimes you will carry out some of these activities, and yet you will not get the results at the beginning. If you do, you might be forced to quit, and that will be the end of your freelance writing career.

With patience, you will see how productive these activities will be at the end.

On a Final Note

The social media provides a lot of opportunities for freelance writers. It helps you reach out to more clients, build more relationships, have a feel of what people are discussing and the list is endless.

But if you do not use the social media platforms well, it will not only be distracting but make you unproductive.

As a freelance writer, you have to keep a balance between your social activities on the platform and your business. With these productivity hacks, your activities on the social media will make you surcharge your productivity daily.

  5. Hi Shehu!

Really well-placed hacks, I mostly find it very difficult to stay active on the social media platforms, because it is very hectic to always share something good.

But reusing the already created good content is a good thing to do, and we must do it, and sometimes share something of our own 🙂

    Have a good day.
    Regards

  6. The first step would be the most important step that without it, it’s hard for new blogger know how to invest in the tools they need and how to get back what they have spent.

  8. Wow! Spot on! Hi AbdulGaniy or is it Shehu? Great to meet you!

Like Cori mentioned, I too tried to be on every social media platform there was. Unfortunately, there is only 24 hours in a day and only about 3 or 4 that I can actively dedicate to social media a day. So I focused on the ones that bring me the most traffic and ditched the others. We can’t possibly be everywhere so it’s up to us to find what works best and use that to our advantage.

Great post! Hi Harleena and Vinay!

    B

    1. Hi Bren,

Glad you found my article useful.

      Great to meet you too.

Surely, one must dedicate the time for social media in a day. We can’t be everywhere at everytime.

      It’s Shehu actually.

Thanks. Do have a wonderful week ahead

  9. Hi Shehu, Social media can be a treasure trove for writers. Where else can you basically get free advertising for your work? But it can also be a distraction. I don’t know how many times I have gone to Pinterest to research an article, only to find myself repinning recipes for chocolate chip cookies. Yummy!

    But wait, I digress…

You’re right, planning is key. Maybe set a timer if you find yourself too distracted by going on social media. You don’t want to waste the day by playing instead of working!

    1. “You don’t want to waste the day by playing instead of working”

That’s the crux of the matter definitely. You need to plan so as to be successful on the social media platforms.

  10. Hey AbdulGaniy,

Numbers #2 and #8 are vital points to me.

You must figure out who you want to follow and what social platforms you want to use or else you’ll be wasting a lot of time.

Who you follow will determine what social platforms you join. In this case, you’ll be following your target audience and you want to share content that they’re already interested in.

Thanks for sharing AbdulGaniy! Have a great upcoming weekend!

    1. Hi Sherman,

Glad you found the numbers mentioned above vital for you and your business. of course, one must streamline the social platforms he/she joins to be productive.

      Thanks for your comment.

Do have a great week too

  11. Thanks for this well-rounded post. I’m not a freelance writer either, but I help out with social media for a nonprofit disability-related organization. We have a blog on our website, and we are on Twitter and Facebook. We just started a LinkedIn page as well, but that’s not very active yet. I am a screen reader user, and thus far I’ve found Twitter to be the easiest social media platform to use. That said, Facebook and LinkedIn are rapidly becoming very accessible for screen reader users. I’d say the nonprofit for which I work has been very successful thus far, and I think we’ve done a nice job on social media. Thanks again for these wonderful tips, and have a great rest of the week.

  12. Hi Abdul

There is an untapped opportunity for Freelancers in Social Media. I do agree that with no strategy, it is just planing to fail.

Even though I am not a Freelancer, You shared so much insight. Thanks for this awesome post. Take Care

  13. Hi Abdul,

I’m not a freelance writer, but I do a lot of writing on my blog and marketing. Using social media is great to show others the style you write in. It also is not distracting as long as you discipline yourself with time management.

I do believe one needs to be selective when working with others. There are a lot of people out there that you don’t want to be tied up with. Stay positive and you will attract the same.

    -Donna

  14. Hi Shehu,
We need to discover what work best for us.
    Managing time is very important.
I find myself today still spending too much time on social media doing nothing when I should be doing something more productive.
When this happens we have to be patient with ourselves and look at how far we have come.
I have to do some social media purging and stick with the ones that work for me.
    Thanks for the hacks.
    Vernon

    1. Hi Vernon,

Social media purging you call it (Of course that’s necessary) in order to prioritise, and also streamline your results.

Managing time as you rightly stated is very important. If you can’t manage your time effectively, your productivity on the social media is on the line too.

      You are welcome

  15. Hey Abdul,

Social media has become part of modern life. People can’t seem to live without their favorite networks such as Facebook and Twitter, but other sites such as LinkedIn and Pinterest have also become popular. So many people spending so much time using social media has raised productivity concerns in the business community.

In order to prevent social media from interfering with our work, we need to exercise self-discipline. Summon our self-control and face ourself to spend a set amount of time working, and then reward ourself for a job well done by allowing ourself social media time.In order to prevent social media from interfering with our work, we need to exercise self-discipline.

While trying to accomplish everything at once, I found that I was getting nothing actually completed. Bouncing between freelance assignments, blog posts, email, social media, and research was overwhelming and not conducive to progress. So I decided I needed to develop a schedule to keep myself on track. Eventually, thanks for sharing these additional information regarding this significant topic.

    With best wishes,

    Amar kumar

    1. Hi Amar,

Glad you found this information significant.

Self-discipline is key if one wishes to succeed as freelance writer especially in this era of social media.

But one thing which is even more important as you stated in your comment is the development of a schedule.

With a schedule, you know what to do, when and how to do it.

It might prove difficult initially but with time it gets better.

      Thanks for your comment

  16. Hi Shehu,

It’s so nice to meet you. Thanks for sharing these great socia media hacks.

When I first started blogging I tried to be on every social media network until I learned I only needed to be where my target audience was. It saved me a lot of time and I wasn’t stressing about having to be all over the place.

Great share! Have a great week.

Hi Harleena! Hope you’re well dear. 🙂

    Cori

    1. Hi Cori,

      So nice meeting you too.

The picture you’ve painted above sadly is the problem most freelance writers and bloggers face today. They want to be on all platforms at the same time.

The reality is that, this will make you overwork yourself, and at the end of the day achieve little success.

Be specific, and selective, and you’ll be amazed at how much result will be achieved.

      Thanks for your comment.

  17. Hey Shehu,

Freelancing is not an easy job. There are millions of freelancers on the web and it’s important to build a unique stand.

Social media is one of the best platforms to use. Freelancers should take an action to choose the people to follow.

Building the connections is really important.
    Thanks for providing the tips.
    Have a great day.
    ~Ravi

    1. Of course, the Social media platform is a great avenue for Freelance writers.
As you rightly put it Ravi, Freelancing is not an easy job. It takes a lot of targeted efforts to succeed in the industry.
