Wouldn’t you agree that living your life to the fullest is determined by how you live your life?

Of course, it also depends on how you define your way of life.

Moreover, what elements you perceive as capable of making your life full also are the determining factors.

Therefore, whether you live your best life or not depends on your understanding and practice of life.

In short, it depends on your lifestyle and habits more than anything else.

Your lifestyle is the manner of living you have adopted that reflects your values and attitudes.

Everyone has the right to choose his or her own way of life, isn’t it?

Well, not completely because sometimes people are bound by the lifestyle of their religion, culture, society, or community.

In any case, there are many ways to live.

It’s possible for every person to consider that their way of living is the best.

Indeed, that is possible!

There is no one absolute way of life.

You can live your best life now and forever, in your own way. However, for that you might need to make some adjustments.

In that respect, it’s important for you to understand that there are some fundamentals of life that are common to all best ways of living.

If you put them into practice, you could bring happiness into your life, making it the best!

Before we go any further, let’s get our definitions and facts right.

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or objects.” ~Albert Einstein

What Does Way Of Life Mean

According to the Collins dictionary, way of life means the behavior and habits that are typical of a particular person or group, or that are chosen by them.

It comprises of your practices, daily rituals, and traditions. In fact, these determine whether you live your life to the fullest.

No, I definitely do not mean that you fill your life with irrational dogmas and superstitions.

I mean that you cultivate some behaviors and habits based on scientific facts and spiritual wisdom, and incorporate them into your lifestyle.

I’m not referring to or discussing any religious or spiritual way of life in particular.

This is a general post about the common and most basic behaviors and habits that can help improve your life, irrespective of your religious or spiritual beliefs or views.

Let’s know the way of life that could fit in your lifestyle to make it better and the best.

“Wisdom is nothing but a preparation of the soul, a capacity, a secret art of thinking, feeling and breathing thoughts of unity at every moment of life.” ~ Herman Hesse

How To Live Your Best Life

Well, the answer lies in your question.

To live your life to the fullest, you need to practice the BEST way of life.

Here, BEST is the acronym for Breathing, Emotions, Senses, and Thoughts.

In addition to what you are already doing to live to the fullest, try to improve your technique of breathing, filter your emotions, control your senses, and be careful with your thoughts.

Your concept of the best life is a life full of love, happiness, positivity, and peace. Isn’t it?

Of course, it could be more as per your likes and interests.

But these BEST principles of life are some fundamentals of a good way of living that everybody needs to understand and implement in life to live the best life.

Probably you already do that as these are based on age-old time proven universal wisdom.

However, no harm going through them to check if you missed on anything that you should make a part of your life.

Breathing

Breathing is more than just inhaling and exhaling of air. There is an art and science of breathing.

It’s one of the most essential factors of life. Good breathing makes all the difference and promotes healthy living.

In ancient India, the sages and philosophers discovered that the right way of breathing made you feel more relaxed. It made you feel good and alert.

They concluded that correct breathing techniques will bring you vitality, longevity, and personal power.

Did you notice that the animals that breathe slowly live the longest? Like the tortoise, giraffe, and elephant. Whereas, the animals that breathe rapidly, live the shortest. Like dog, cats, and rabbits.

Moreover, breathing is also linked to your other life activities, including emotions and thoughts.

You may experience change in your breathing when you are sad or happy, angry or calm, and when you sleep or are awake.

The other way around, your control and regulation of breathing can help you manage and mitigate the consequences of your fluctuating emotional and thinking states.

Therefore, incorporating correct breathing in your way of life will help you make your life stable, thus happy and peaceful.

Do you know that with the practice of our normal breathing we use only one-tenth of the total capacity of our lungs? Instead, we should try to maximize this use.

“When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath.” ~ Svatmarama

What to do

Practice deep breathing. It increases the breathing efficiency per breath.

As per the scientific facts, the normal breath rate is 15 to 18 breaths per minute. In deep breathing, this rate is reduced to about 4 to 8 breaths per minute.

The ancient wisdom says that the fewer or longer your breaths, the longer is your life.

What you should do is diaphragmatic breathing. It helps you relax, surge your energy levels, and keep you calm.

According to Wikipedia, in diaphragmatic or deep breathing, air enters the lungs, and the belly expands. This deep breathing is marked by expansion of the abdomen rather than the chest when breathing.

It is considered to be a healthier way to breathe and a useful form of complementary and alternative treatment.

You should reduce on shallow or rapid breathing, also known as chest breathing.

Diaphragmatic breathing is also one of the most important foundation practices for meditation. After learning from an expert, you should consciously practice diaphragmatic breathing.

Remember, the breath is intimately connected to the autonomic nervous system and the mind.

“Breath is the bridge which connects life to consciousness, which unites your body to your thoughts.” ~ Thích Nhất Hạnh

Therefore, breath regulation and diaphragmatic breathing even helps calm your mind, enhance your cognitive and mental abilities, and help you live your best life.

Deep breathing is an excellent way of interrupting the ‘Fight or Flight’ response. I hope now you know why in such situation you are asked to count till 10 and take deep breaths!

Emotions

Emotions are important in life. We deal with emotions all the time.

To the extent that we love to use emoticons in our writing and digital interaction as well, don’t you too! 🙂

Sometimes, we lay emphasis to our emotions more than anything else, such that we let it take us for a ride.

But the emotional roller coaster ride is not always pleasant. Sometimes, the ups and down of emotions can take a toll on your mind and body.

Emotions can be negative as well as positive. They incite corresponding moods or motivation within us. Remember that not all emotions are true.

Especially, negative emotions can be an obstacle to living your best life. Even being overwhelmed and flooded with positive emotions takes you off the balance and make you feel uncomfortable.

“Feelings are much like waves, we can’t stop them from coming but we can choose which one to surf.” ~Jonatan Mårtensson

What to do

To live your best life, you need to maintain a balance of emotions and try not to go to extremes.

Its okay to enjoy and express emotions, but don’t make yourself vulnerable to suffering by getting too attached to these emotions.

Don’t tie yourself to your emotions, as these are the waves that come and go. It’s wise to anchor yourself in something concrete and then enjoy or experience these tides of emotions.

The ancient Chinese believed that excess emotions caused damage to qi, the life force, and eventually damaged the vital organs.

Don’t surrender yourself and drift away in the emotional storms, as sometimes excessive emotions can be irrational and counterproductive.

Balance and moderation of emotions is the key to happiness in life.

“Every day we have plenty of opportunities to get angry, stressed or offended. But what you’re doing when you indulge these negative emotions is giving something outside yourself power over your happiness. You can choose to not let little things upset you.” ~ Joel Osteen

Ways to deal with emotions

If you indulge in negative emotions, then you might suffer from physiological injury, mental traumas, estranged relationships, and psychological issues.

  • Instead, you can choose and try not to react in situations of emotional conflict.
  • Divert attention to your breathing.
  • Focus on the positive aspects or affirmations.
  • Come to an understanding that the situation is temporary, and it will pass.
  • Make an offer of positive emotion and display it to counter the negative emotions.
  • Avoid blockage of emotional channels by choosing positive ways to release emotions

However, you need to make your choices depending upon the circumstances.

You may require expressing your emotions rather than holding them based on your assessment and discretion.

But negative emotions can never help you lead a happy life.

You will love your life only if you have a healthy and positive emotional state.

If you make efforts to keep your emotions in check and to develop inner happiness, you’ll have more of healthy relationships that are conducive to healthy living.

Senses

Senses and sensual pleasures seem to be the spice of life.

The five senses, sight, hearing, taste, smell, and touch help you live a 5-dimensional life.

These are the basic senses, however, there are many other senses considered as non-traditional and non-human that you can find out here.

But the lack of any sense faculty or body sense organ does not make your life meaningless.

You can still live your life and make it enjoyable and memorable.

While the senses are good, you should try not to be overly dependent on them. Enjoy the senses, but don’t let them rule you.

Dependency on the sensual pleasures provided by the senses may turn you as a victim instead of making you victorious.

Lack of control over the senses may also alter your perception, judgment, and make you take irrational decisions that may even harm your life.

For example, you like the taste of certain food, and you decide to have more of it than required.

Conversely, you limit your diet and have less than what is required because it doesn’t satisfy your palette in spite of being beneficial.

Therefore, you need to lead a sense-controlled way of life to live to the fullest.

“The senses deceive from time to time, and it is prudent never to trust wholly those who have deceived us even once.” ~ Rene Descartes

What to do

Your mind is the master of all the senses. It has the power to control and limit your sensory desires.

You need to develop this control center so that the senses are harnessed to a more efficient and productive life for healthy living.

Meditation is, of course, the defacto exercise to let the mind control the reins of the senses.

The practice of inner meditation besides helping in self regulation of the body and mind also helps you experience living without the dependency and use of senses.

Try meditating for a few minutes on a daily basis. Then gradually increase the duration of the meditation time period.

You may meditate by concentrating on your breath, on some imaginary point, on some mantra or chanting of words while keeping your eyes closed.

“The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large.” ~ Confucius

However, there are many other ways of meditating. There is also a ways of meditating that uses the senses – it’s called mindful meditation.

In that, you live in the moment experiencing the sensory stimuli. When you eat, you attentively observe the look of the food, its smell, and taste.

When you go for your morning walk, you attentively hear the sounds of birds, watch the surroundings, smell the air, and feel your body, being in the moment.

Sensory fulfillment is good and conducive for healthy living, such that it does not make you addictive and keeps you in charge.

The right way of using your senses can help you live your best life.

Thoughts

Some researches indicate that your brain produces or processes around 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts per day.

This is quite a lot, and managing your thoughts is a serious and tedious business.

Statistically, you’re bombarded with a thought every alternate second.

While some of these thoughts may be helpful, meaningful, and useful, a majority of them may be counterproductive, including negative thoughts.

Negative thoughts induce negativity and lead you to behave negatively. This can lead to negative perceptions, negative attitude, and overly negative way of living.

If you find a way so that less number of thoughts are processed or produced, and a way to filter out the negative thoughts, then you may be able to live a better life.

“We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.” ~ Swami Vivekananda

What to do

This is easy to guess. All you need to do is see, feel, think, and do positively.

Everything is related to and results in thoughts.

1) Think Positive

Positive thinking and optimism is the way to counter negative experiences and negative thoughts.

By adopting a positive way of life, you majorly experience and process positive thoughts, and thus turn the invasion of thoughts in your favor.

2) Feel Positive

Thoughts and emotions are also interlinked.

Thoughts may excite certain emotions and emotions may produce certain thoughts. On the other hand, emotion is also considered as a thought.

Therefore, if you feel good, you are likely to think good and positive.

3) See Positive

Your sensory perception may be the root of your thoughts. For example, your brain generates or processes thoughts based on what you see through your eyes or visualize in your mind.

Now, if you try to not let your eyes wander – this may help you face less number of thoughts.

Do you remember the three monkeys of Mahatma Gandhi? It is originally a Japanese pictorial proverb. But it makes sense – see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil. When there is no negative input from the senses, your thoughts are more likely to be positive.

4) Do Positive

Actions speak louder than words, and even thoughts. No matter what, force yourself to indulge in positive actions and behavior.

Thus, you may even convert negative thoughts into positive outcomes. For example, get involved in community or social service.

“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts: therefore, guard accordingly, and take care that you entertain no notions unsuitable to virtue and reasonable nature.” ~ Marcus Aurelius

While there are many ways to remain positive and live your best life, one is mostly missed out by many.

There is an inextricable relationship between breathing and thoughts.

When your breathing is controlled, your mind is calm; you process less number of thoughts.

Meditation combined with positive self-affirmation leads you to a completely positive mental state.

In the deepest and highest levels of meditation, you go beyond the emotions and thoughts, into a stage of breathless body and mindless state.

For some, that is the best way of life to be lived to experience the ultimate ecstasy and enlightenment.

“When there are thoughts, it is distraction: when there are no thoughts, it is meditation.” ~ Ramana Maharshi

Conclusion

Adopt and include the BEST way of life for living your best life.

  1. Control and regulate your breath by practicing deep breathing. You may live long, be stress-free, happy, and peaceful.
  2. Keep your emotions in check. Don’t get carried away. Root out negative emotions, avoid emotional conflicts and keep the emotional channels open.
  3. Be in charge of your senses, don’t over indulge. Practice meditation and mindfulness. Don’t become dependent on your senses and sensory perceptions.
  4. Have positive thoughts and always be positive in everything. See good, hear good, speak good, as well as think and act good.

One of the keys to bringing happiness into life is balance and moderation. Honor the limits, and avoid extremes or addictions.

In cases of upsetting emotions and thoughts, just shift your attention to your breath.

The body, breath, and mind are linked. And so are emotions and thoughts.

Therefore, proper breathing habit and practice of meditation will help you in living your best life now and forever.

This is the way of life incorporating the BEST principles, which includes the elements of breathing, emotions, senses, and thoughts.

However, this is not a comprehensive and exhaustive lifestyle solution as there are many other elements that help you to live life to the fullest. Read this post to know some of them.

thanx for the motivational post Harleena & Vinay Kachhara

  12. One of the things I’ve been trying to make a habit lately is too meditate. People live life too preoccupied with the past or the present when those thoughts only bring anxiety and stress.

Its been hard but I’ve been meditating for a couple months now and the type of insight you get on your thoughts is absolutely amazing.

I’ve felt more relaxed lately, and less in my head.

    Great post!

  13. Howdy Mr Vinay. What a great post. I truly love the BEST acronym. I truly required this supporter of positive data

I likewise feel that we plan our own particular reality. Toward the end, we are in charge of our demonstrations. To me, lifestyle is living in a free way.

the genuine method for living is not about peeping out somebody ele’s work. It’s all carrying on with our life in a free way.

Ya, you are correct that considerations assume a critical part in our life. It’s ideal to have mastery over your contemplations. At times, I additionally gives comfy stage to my negative considerations. Now is the right time to desert them and appreciate the power.

Much obliged concerning the gathering of your eminent contemplations and adept citations

  14. That quote from Einstein is so true. Letting go of material things and possessions can help you to live a more free and authentic life. If I hadn’t had to start my life over again and again from various setbacks I doubt I’d be the person I am today. There’s such freedom in not being owned by our things, but by where we are. It allows us to be present for every single moment.

  15. Hello Vinay,

Thanks for this amazing and inspirational post. We always aspire to lead a life of someone other’s such as a celebrity or a cricketer and feel sad about our own ‘boring’ life. This post really opened my eyes and inspired me to look forward in my life.

    Thanks a lot.

  16. Hi Vinay,

I enjoyed reading this post. Very Informative and refreshing.

I like how you elaborated on the word “BEST” (Breathing, Emotions, Senses, and Thoughts). Very creative and helpful indeed.

After reading this post, I need to work on my breathing and on controlling my emotions. I haven’t practiced deep breathing before or in other words I didn’t know its benefits. Maybe I need to add a yoga class to my workout schedule as it will sure help.

Also, I need to work on my emotions as I am a sensitive type of person and I do put lots of weight on my emotions and it could be stealing more of the happy moments that I should be living. Life is too short to hang on to negative emotions for so long.

Thanks for a great share Vinay. Enjoy your week ahead.

    Be Blessed,

    Neamat

  17. Hi Vinay,

It was nice to see you in Harleena’s blog. 🙂
From the beginning, I was curious about the BEST that you mentioned in your title. Why do you put an emphasis on the word “BEST”?

I found the answer when I started down your article paragraph by paragraph. I love the way you define BEST (Breathing, Emotions, Senses, and Thoughts)

It provides a new understanding of our lives in dealing with this way of life. For me, the way of life is the principle of my life. When I started to set it, then I will try hard to finish it.

    Thanks for sharing, Vinay.
    Keep up the hard work!

    ~Nanda

  18. Hi Vinay

    Sorry for the late reply.

Love the acronym for Best; Breathing, Emotions, Senses, and Thoughts. You are right that living your best life depends on these four factors.

It is strange but interesting to know that breathing helps in maintaining health. If you ain’t relaxed in your breathing, then you will always be tensed which can affect your health.

Emotions can make and break one in terms of health. I read that when we have negative emotions, they affect our body chemistry and we can have diseases just by allowing the wrong thoughts to linger in our minds.

Senses are like a double edged sword, depending on how we use them but I agree that we should not depend on them and I love the tips you raised on how to utilize our senses.

As for thoughts, it reminds of a saying that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Thanks for sharing this awesome post. Have a lovely week.

  19. Hi Vinay SIr,
Great writing!! it is really a inspiring post. These types of post always give a big lesson to live our life so happily and in the way each one can not live.
I always love to read your both’s (YOu and Harleena) post as well as comments on other’s blogs.
    Have a great ahead.
    With Regards,
    Naveen

  20. Hey Vinay,

This is the best advice that one can give.

I haven’t started meditation that I told myself i was going to start doing last year, but I have been doing yoga for 2 years now.

I do have to say that breathing makes a big difference in anything that you do. The reason that I started doing yoga was because I had sciatic pain in my right leg and a chiropractor recommended it. I didn’t take her advance until 5 years later, but it made a big difference. Above all, you must incorporate breathing. Correct breathing that is. It matters a lot! For me it helped to relieve the sciatic pain that I had.

Also correct breathing helps you stay balance, whether it’s mentally or physically. I do these one legged balance poses, and what helps for me to stay in the pose is to think about nothing. I clearn my mind through breathing and I’m able to do these poses what is deemed to be quite difficult.

But yes, correct breathing, when incorporated in your life will definitely bring you to balance! Especially the abdominal/diaphram breathing that you mentioned!

Thanks for sharing Vinay! This was great info!

  21. Hello Vinay sir,

    Great write up!

The way you have explained BEST way is really commendable. You and Harleena are awesome writers.

I being a blogger who is more connected to blogging/SEO/MMO, sometimes just don’t understand other topics but your article is so simple and elegant that I can understand easily.

    Keep up the good work.

  22. Hi Vinay

Thanks for that really great article.

I know I need to improve on some of these issues. I have recently started yoga and that has shown me how bad I am at breathing properly. I’m working on it!

I like the idea of coping with your emotions by divert attention to your breathing – it’s sort of two for the price of one!

Positivity is something I’m better with, but it’s a bit of a challenge when surrounded by a lot of negativity.

You reminded me of something – my Nan always told me to be like the 3 wise monkeys. The world would be a better place if more people practiced those principles.

    Have a great week, Joy

  23. Hi Vinay,

What great ways to live your life in harmony. When it comes to breathing, I do know how powerful it is. I stopped practicing it lately, but my 84 year old mom does yoga. Now she reminds me to do breathing with her almost every day. What a blessing that is for me!

I do take time out to meditate and pray every day. I find that it is the most important thing I can ever do to create a peaceful mind/body/spirit.
Starting the day with prayer and gratefulness has become a habit. So much so, that I do it all during the day at times unconsciously. It is part of my life.

When it comes to emotions, I’ve worked very hard on that. I used to be very sensitive. The negative thoughts in my mind used to distract me with worry. But I knew I had to do something about it because I couldn’t handle it myself. I practiced DBT Therapy, whereby when a negative thought comes to mind, I can replace it with a positive one.

That didn’t happen overnight…it took practice, but as they say practice makes perfect so now it comes easy for me.

Thank you so much for raising these issues because life is wonderful and we can enjoy every bit of it.

    -Donna

  24. Hi Vinay

I enjoyed reading this post. It was very refreshing. Your acronym for BEST is very creative and it seems like much thought went into it; although I would like to expand on sensing to include spend quality, quiet time with yourself. That too can be very refreshing and renewing.

I would say define best life for yourself and determine what constitutes happiness and success for yourself as well. This for sure you cannot depend on anyone else for. Depending on others for your best life mean that at any moment one can get ‘screwed up’ Goals are very important to set in addition to establishing boundaries.

    Thanks for sharing.

  25. I find that using positive affirmations really helps me to be both happy AND productive!

However, you’ve made some excellent points in this post, Harleena, like the one about breathing, which, for me, is hard, because I smoke. (Don’t judge.)

My goal is to be happy, happy, happy! I know I’m on my way, too, as I’ve not been suicidal for years. 🙂

    Onward and upward!

  26. Very inspiring article! I’ve never even considered breathing in the way you have described it in your article, but it makes perfect sense. I’m excited to use your insights in my own life. Thank you!

  27. Hi Vinay,

I’ve encountered beautiful acronyms on this blog, especially from Harleena, and again you’re at it too 😉 Bravo!

I do admire the facts and suggestions as always and the information on breathing got my attention. I haven’t thought of controlling my breathing except when I was feeling nervous. Eventhough I meditate, I wasn’t thinking much about how it regulates our breathing, but the breathing itself. Hmm… Now it affirms the benefits of meditation and next time I’ll aware of it as well 😉

As a believer of how emotions can impact on one’s life, negative emotions is something I always look out for. I don’t know how true this might be for many out there, but I find channeling negative emotions into something good is way productive, though it takes more effort. Isn’t it? It’s really impressive how someone can get away from negativity so quick and focus on something better.

I find some beauty in senses and thoughts even they tend to vulnerable us in some points, Vinay. Don’t you? Of course, with the control over it – like being tend to vulnerable but with the full control to come back again. Considering the thoughts, it can be a wonderful mind ride as I feel 🙂

Thanks for the wonderful post on such points that can totally have us vulnerable as human beings, and I do believe it will be helpful to more as I find it to mine 🙂

You have a lovely weekend, Vinay 🙂

    Cheers…

  28. Hi Vinay sir,
I really appreciate such stuff here. This blog post does a LOT to help people live better in a positive way.
I read it yesterday itself but to comment I needed to read it once more, it needed and I gave your post the time it needs. Why? Because I simply love to indulge myself in the posts of Aha!NOW. They are so thoughtful and thought provoking too.

When it comes to graphics, Harleena maam once said me some of her images receive more than 1500 pins and today I know why. I could never have gotten myself with that picture of three monkeys and used a more common one. The image of Helen Keller quote is also SO beautiful. You have inspired me now for using the best images in a post.

Coming to the post, I would say you have to be positive. I don’t know what I am like but I make myself more tensed in a situation that is evoking negative vibes. Same goes with good times too. I really want to deal with it.

I hope following the BEST in your post can help me in this, or what do you advise?
Have a great weekend sir. 🙂

  29. Hi Vinay

One of a few articles I ever read on living a life in our best way. It does have several quotes but not a slight impression of any kind of bookish approach I could have found in the whole post which might have implied any primary single source for most of its point. You are a wonderful writer and equally an awesome life coach.

I don’t this such valuable information any life coach would offer free of charge. As the secret of lengthy breathing you mentioned we do listen but many people never know its whole process.

Yes, the answer of the question “how to spend your life in your best way” lies in itself as if someone spend his life the way he wants this is the best way of life for him.

Once I read somewhere if someone gets to understand that whatever is happening in the world is being done without his consent and against his wishes then no one can be happier than him as he will not look around and just see how he himself is spending his life.

Balance in every kind of activity in life and the way to take the life and spend it is the real secret of happy life but it is equally a fact that we are not machine which can be put in balance forever with regular repair and maintenance.

We can manage balance in our physical aspects but in emotion and mental aspects it is always a big challenge to adopt the mid way.

One of the biggest reformers of this world was once asked why did he has such bleak and gloomy point of view about all that is going on in this world. His reply was spot-on as “living in fool’s paradise is not acceptable to me just to avoid the heat of the real hell” and explained forcible optimism is nothing but an ostrich-like approach to avoid danger.

In the same fashion if someone do catharsis by all the time taking gloomy side of the world he is also a fool who fail to see the light and keep trying to see through the darkness.

As you pointed out gaining positive thinking is possible if someone never over-indulge in his emotions, feelings and senses to have a balanced way of thinking.

Thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful post that opened new ways of thinking to make my life more happier and successful.

  30. Hello Vinay Sir,

The tittle of the post brought me here!

Living our life in the best way would be the happiest way and most of the people are not following it. Starting from the breathing! How many of us know, how to breath properly, we don’t have time to breath now a day as we are running for something. But I came across some dedicated people who are still spending to do meditation, breathing exercise and Yoga. Recently, I’ve started doing meditation and I feel better now.

I try to be an optimistic person, but I cant think positively at all the times. I know that the negative thinking would spoil the mood, character and everything, but still I’m learning to think positive for every matter.

Your advice in “What to do?” is really helpful and will follow them for sure.I’d say with no doubt, this is an excellent post to live in a better way and thus sharing this post on my network.

Keep up your amazing write-up, happy weekend 🙂

  31. Hi, indeed great post!
I live my best life by choosing moment by moment thoughts that make me feel good. Of course, that is a process that goes almost automatically. I have just decided to be really aware of how I feel. If at some point I don’t feel good, I stop, breath, take a look at my thoughts and try to gently move my thoughts in another direction. I don’t believe as much in forcing ‘affirmations’ at that point, ad fighting against something always gives it more power. So I just gently move in the direction I want.

This gives me the opportunity to really train myself in awareness and focus. I believe that everyday I am living and being my true self more and more. And that makes me happy. And good things are happening to me. Nice people, good business, peace in my heart and in my family life…. I truly believe life responds to how you are vibrating, to your energy. Thoughts are only a small part of that. You can force yourself to ‘think a positive thought’, if your energy is saying something else, your life will reflect that.

This is how I live, and I love it.

    Thx for the great writing!

    Love, Live, Enjoy!
    Linda

  32. Awe inspiring post Vinay!

The quotes that you have presented here at every level really motivates to apply your tips to lead a happy and positive life. Really we tend to take some of the small but important things in life for granted. Our minds are so occupied all the time that we fail to realize the importance of resting it for a while everyday by means of meditation and relaxation. Endless thoughts create bizarre emotions leading to negativity and imbalance.

Your tips are really implementable and get us back on track. And I am going to do that exactly. Thanks for sharing.

  33. This is awesome Vinay. I’ve been into self-development the whole year. I’ve been doing journals, meditating and all things I could do to start the day right.

Breathing IS by far the most important for me. We tend to take shallow breaths when working or focusing. Don’t take it lightly everyone! Train yourself and this will change a lot of things in how you approach your daily tasks.

    Awesome post!

  34. Hi Vinay ir,

This post is not in the way I thought it would be. You have presented a total new style of scientifically logically possible reasons and facts to get inspired. I really didn’t know about the ‘breathing’ before.

Very interetsing and helpful post sir. Loved reading the facts in between. Thank you so much for coming up wtih it. Have a nice weekend 🙂

  35. Lovely post Harleena!

In particular the quotes resonated with me. I find it so important to be conscious of breathe and thinking and of course the emotions that come from the lack of control or focus on both those.

Two things came to mind as I was reading. Today, the tweets about the death of Leonard Nimoy focused much on how he led a “good life”. And isn’t that really what we are here to do. Love. Treasure. Enjoy. Help others. Particularly as entrepreneurs we focus our time and energy on building business – and to earn money in that pursuit. Money is important in our world. But a “good life” is never about the money.

Living your Best Life, as you discuss is so much more simple and powerful. The role of thoughts to disrupt emotions is huge. Just today I was waiting for a call from my child. She takes a public bus home from school on days I don’t go get her. She was supposed to turn her phone on at 3;30. But she didn’t. And for a time I couldn’t reach her and my thoughts went wild.

All is well however and my heartbeat has slowed down!

    Thanks for this lovely post,
    Deborah

  36. Thanks for the great post, Vinay. It was very well thought out, relatable and positive. The acronym is outstanding very palatable for a macro group. ( as opposed to smaller niche communities that live and breathe such philosophies.) I had a great Yoga Guru that used to say “Life is only measured by your breath, if you break it down simply….so why NOT elongate and slow it?” Your message is just as essential and clear.

    Bests,
    (that was cheeky)

  37. This is a great post! I’m now turning my life around and living to the fullest (of my ability). It’s really sad that it has taken me 30 years to figure out what I want from my life & my body. Better late than never? Does that apply to this. I hope you have a great Friday!

  38. Hi Vinay!

This is not an easy topic. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences. I think living each moment consciously and intense is very important to live life to the fullest. If we rush through all our great moments without enjoying them they are not so great anymore. All your tips can help to live consciously.

We are actually using special breathing methods in our choir. It helps getting more oxygen in the body which helps with singing but makes also happy.

  39. Hi Vinay sir,

Good to see you coming with an amazing post after a month or two I guess. I loved the acronym you established for BEST.

Talking about Breathing, You are so true… I attended an expert speak on Yoga and there the masters said the same that we hardly breathe correctly. We need to practice slow and deep breathing. And whenever I am free I pay attention to how I am breathing. After being gone through the worst in the ER and days in a hospital, due to some respiratory disorders, it made me more aware of how to breathe correctly and why it is so important. It would not be wrong if I say correct breathing requires practice.

I loved the Joel Osteen’s quote. The way we Handle our emotions is ultimately upon us. I get mad sometimes and thats when meditation helps me out. I wish I could do it everyday.

We are being so hyper active that there is hardly any moment when we do not think, or shut down our thought process. Even when I was reading this post. I tried to not think anything for a minute and I failed. There is never a moment when we don’t think anything. It is really hard to control thoughts but diverting them and transforming them into positives ones surely can be done.

Strong and positive message – “See good, hear good, speak good, as well as think and act good.” It was a much needed post for all. And I loved the way you planned the whole post around the word BEST. It was worth my time reading.

Have a great weekend. And thanks a lot sir for sharing such positive posts at Aha!NOW™. This is what makes this blog a leader among self development blogs.

  40. Hi Vinay,

I totally agree that excess of everything is harmful whether thoughts, emotions or senses but it’s not always easy to control them ,it takes lot of practice and yes meditation is one of the strongest art which can enlighten our body and mind.It can give us unshakeable inner strength ,peace and can heal our all kind of pain and sorrow. In my school days I used to do it on regular basis but now i completely stopped it,hopefully going to start it again.
I was waiting for this kind of post on Aha :).I enjoyed reading it.Very informative I would say. Thanks for sharing.Have a happy weekend.

  41. Vinay this post motivated me a lot. Everyone needs to stay happy with what they have got. We need to enjoy each and every moment of our life. The struggle may continue, but we need to be happy with whatever we achieve.

Having good control on emotions is very necessary. We often get sad thinking about the things which we couldn’t achieve in life. But, how often do we think about the things we have achieved in our life?? Breathing exercises, yoga and other activities can definitely help us in getting control on our emotions.

Vinay I think that you yourself are very much happy with your life. It is really good to see you writing such type of posts for making people understand that how they can live their life in the best way.

  42. Great post Vinay. Being myself a student of meditation for many years, I can very well relate to your recommendation of meditation. It i so true and meaningful. The BEST acronym is the really the best way to live a life full of happiness and peace. Controlling ones Breathing, Emotions, Senses and Thoughts are the prefect way to lead a balanced life. However, controlling these fours are not easy. Constant practice and dedication is required to adopt the BEST method.

  43. Hy Vinay,
Great stuff, the nice acronymn BEST is a great memnotic device too, to help us to remember to come back to these 4 areas. And you did a great job balancing the desires of each individual with universal principles we can all apply – not an easy feat! I aspire to do this more.

In terms of breathing, I’ve also found the “Gokhale Method” (by Esthar Gokhale) to be very useful. This involves whole-torso breathing – expanding chest, back, and diaphragm, which is very useful for anyone who spends a lot of time in front of a computer screen and suffers from shoulder/neck soreness.

Thanks for sharing your work with us,
    Andrew

    1. Hi Andrew,

Glad that BEST could strike a chord with you as well.

We had mentioned Esthar Gokhale in our post on sitting postures. She offers good and wise suggestions that are very helpful in practical life. Do read that post if you get the time, and we have suggestions for bloggers like us related to what you have mentioned in the comment.

Thank you for reading this post and commenting on it. I really appreciate it.

  44. Hi Vinay,

I like your unique way of defining the ‘BEST’ and combining all four to lead a life, which could be the best life! Though everybody has his or her own way of living and thinking but no one can escape breathing, which is our lifeline. Emotions are a crucial part of living with happiness and who can live without senses and thoughts – the spontaneous part of our growing up.

So your definition is so appropriate for each and every person across the globe, rich or poor, sad or happy, successful or not so successful…all of us need ‘BEST.’ Thanks for elaborating further and providing the solutions along with each point. This is an outstanding post! Thanks for sharing. Have a nice day.

    1. Hi Balroop,

Glad you like the acronym. The BEST way of life can supplement your existing way of life.

The understanding and right practice of breathing, emotions, senses, and thoughts can really help us live our life in a better way. However, if mismanaged, they can lead to sufferings of life, no matter what lifestyle or way of life you follow.

Thanks for sharing your wise views, I really appreciate it. Do have a great weekend ahead!

  45. Hi Mr Vinay. What a wonderful post. I really love the BEST acronym. I really needed this booster of positive information
I also think that we design our own reality. At the end, we are responsible for our acts. To me, way of life is living in a free manner.
the true way of living is not about peeping out someone ele’s work. It’s all living our life in a free manner.
Ya, you are right that thoughts play a important role in our life. It’s better to have domination over your thoughts. Sometimes, I also provides cozy platform for my negative thoughts. It’s time to leave them behind and enjoy the authority.
Thanks for the compilation of your wonderful thoughts and apt quotations

    1. Hi Yatin,

Glad you like the post and the acronym.

Yes, definitely. We are responsible for the state of our life. We all can exercise free will, but this freedom requires responsibility and wisdom to bring good results.

You don’t necessarily have to re-invent the wheel all the time, but it’s always suggested to develop and use your own system of understanding , assessing, and evaluating life.

The best way to filter the thoughts is to pay attention on the positive ones. The negative thoughts will lose value and gradually fade away.

Thanks for sharing your views and way of life.

  46. Hi Vinay
Great article with some great tips and points to definitely chew on. I think in order to live our best life, we have to make our own definitions of success and happiness. Too often we buy into the ones that have been set by someone else, and we either can’t achieve that so we don’t feel happy, or we get all of those things but it doesn’t make us feel as good as we are led to believe it should.

If you aren’t happy or at peace, but have a certain amount of money, type of job or whatever, what does it matter?

    1. Hi Kelli,

      Thanks for your appreciating words.

I absolutely agree with you that each person needs to chart the way to their destination, in their own way. There can be billions of ways to live, yet they all can include the BEST way of life. As that’s all about making the engine more efficient and powerful, and not showing the direction of the journey.

Your’re right, we should never neglect the necessity to learn to be happy with our own selves and our life. Money or job provide securities, which do give us some peace of mind and happiness, but you still need to make efforts to live a good way of life to achieve real happiness.

Thanks for sharing your important views and adding value to this post.

  47. Very informative post,Vinay. I hadn’t really considered the idea of being tricked by our senses or maybe craving too much stimulation. My goal to increase happiness is balance. I think I’m on the right track as your conclusion basically shows balancing all of the BEST life elements.

Our thoughts are very powerful in creating action. So, positive thoughts = positive action. Great reminders!

    1. Hi Lisa,

      Glad you like the post.

The senses don’t always trick you, but then as Rene Descartes says, if they trick you even once, you better be wary of them!

Excess of anything is harmful, and the same applies to sense indulgence too. You’re right that balance or moderation is the key to happiness in life.

If you are positive, then it’s highly probably that you’ll set the ball rolling in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful thoughts.

  48. Hello Vinay,

This is a great post. I really enjoyed reading your description of the BEST acronyms. I especially appreciate your suggestions to deal with emotions…some things trigger negative emotions but I’m working on that.

I do deep breathing exercises but I would love to do more meditating, I’ve found it so relaxing.

They way I keep a positive outlook on life is by keeping positive people and things around me. That way there is no room for any negativity.

The way I live my best life is to feed my mind, body, and spirit. I keep positive thoughts, try my best to eat healthy and exercise and attend church and practice my faith as well as help others – which is most important for me.

Thank you for putting this lovely post together. I’d be more than happy to pass it along. I hope you’re having a great week.

    1. Hi Corina,

I’m glad you liked the post as well as the suggestions in it.

Emotions can really exhaust us if they are not managed in a proper way. They become like activities that consume high CPU resources on your blog server. 🙂

You’re doing all the right things and now you just need to be persistent and have patience.

Thanks for sharing your way of life, and the things you practice to live your best life.

      Have a great weekend ahead!
